Why is GPR survey in Gujarat in demand right now?
Gujarat's power distribution was built largely overhead, and that balance is starting to shift. Central Gujarat shows it clearly. MGVCL (Madhya Gujarat Vij Company Ltd.), headquartered in Vadodara, supplies seven districts – Vadodara, Anand, Kheda, Panchmahal, Dahod, Chhota Udepur and Mahisagar – spread over roughly 23,854 sq km. In March 2020 its underground network was only 0.114 times the length of its overhead lines (Power Line, Aug 2021).
During August and October 2026, listed contractors announced sizeable MGVCL orders to convert 11 kV overhead lines to covered conductor and to build underground networks, with work named in the Borsad, Nadiad City and Baroda areas (Kalkine, 24 Aug 2026 – ₹275.05 crore L1; Whalesbook, 12 Oct 2026 – ₹471.92 crore). We have no affiliation with MGVCL or any other DISCOM: our clients are the contractors and engineers who carry out such work.
Each new cable has to fit into roads that already hold water mains, sewers, gas lines, telecom ducts and older power cables. A GPR survey in Gujarat, done before the first trench is opened or the first bore is drilled, tells the site team what is already down there and roughly how deep it lies. That costs far less than repairing a punctured gas main or a cut fibre, and it keeps the programme on track.
Which distribution area is your Gujarat site in?
| Distribution area | Our Gujarat pages | What survey work usually looks like |
|---|---|---|
| MGVCL – central Gujarat | Vadodara, Anand, Nadiad (Kheda), Godhra, Halol, Dahod, Chhota Udepur, Lunawada (Mahisagar) | Overhead-to-underground and covered-conductor conversion orders reported in 2026 |
| UGVCL – north Gujarat | Mehsana, Patan, Palanpur, Himmatnagar, Sanand | Rural feeders, GIDC estates, oilfield corridors around Mehsana |
| DGVCL – south Gujarat | Bharuch, Ankleshwar, Navsari, Valsad, Vapi | Chemical estates, coastal and high-moisture ground |
| PGVCL – Saurashtra & Kutch | Rajkot, Jamnagar, Bhavnagar, Morbi, Junagadh, Porbandar, Amreli, Surendranagar, Botad, Veraval, Bhuj, Gandhidham | Long inter-town routes, dry and stony ground in places |
| Torrent Power licence areas | Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Surat, Dahej, Dholera SIR | Dense city networks; private licensee alongside the state DISCOM around it |
Areas are shown for orientation only. Confirm the licensee for your exact site from your tender or connection papers. Mezux Touch is not affiliated with MGVCL or any DISCOM.
How does survey work differ across Gujarat's supply areas?
The area tells us whose records to ask for, what ground to expect and how routes are usually laid out. Treat the table above as a guide; the licensee for your exact site is named in your tender or connection papers.
- Central Gujarat (MGVCL): district towns, highway service lanes and village feeders, with the Mahi and Vishwamitri river belts and many canal crossings. Service records outside the larger towns are often thin.
- North Gujarat (UGVCL): long rural feeders, GIDC estates and, around Mehsana, oilfield pipelines whose operators must consent before anyone works close to them.
- South Gujarat (DGVCL): chemical estates such as Ankleshwar and Vapi, estuary towns and coastal ground where moisture stays high.
- Saurashtra and Kutch (PGVCL): long inter-town corridors, port and industrial belts, and dry, stony ground over many stretches.
- Torrent Power licence areas: dense city networks in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar and Surat, plus the Dahej area, where a private licensee works alongside the state company around it.
GPR survey Vadodara, Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot – the four large city pages
Most enquiries come from the four biggest cities, and each has a page of its own. Vadodara covers municipal roads, the GIDC estates on the city's edges and cable conversion work in the MGVCL area. Ahmedabad deals with old-city lanes, ring-road corridors and night working on busy roads. Surat explains what wet ground near the Tapi means for radar depth. Rajkot looks at city roads, engineering estates and long Saurashtra routes.
What does an HT cable route survey in Gujarat involve?
An HT cable route survey in Gujarat follows the same sequence whether the job is a 4 km town feeder or a district package running to hundreds of kilometres:
- Records check. We ask for the route plus any service drawings the municipal body, gas company, telecom operators or water department have shared, so the scan has a reference to test against.
- Radar passes. GPR lines run along the planned cable path and across it at intervals, with extra passes at junctions, culverts, drains and road crossings. 3D or high-resolution scanning is used where lines bunch together.
- Electromagnetic locating. Metallic cables and pipes are traced by their signal to confirm what the radar shows.
- Ground marking. Each detected line is marked on the surface with its approximate depth, so the trenching or HDD crew can work straight from it.
- Survey record. A report states coverage, depth reached by section and any stretch where results are limited. CAD or GIS drawing sets can be prepared on request and are priced separately.
For the Vadodara-specific version of this work, see our HT/LT cable route survey in Vadodara. Locating a fault on a live cable is a separate task from a route survey, and trial pits or boreholes can be arranged when a finding needs physical confirmation.
Standard survey or L-section – which does your Gujarat job need?
A standard GPR survey at ₹24 per metre finds and marks the services along your route and records their approximate depth. An L-section GPR survey at ₹32 per metre adds a depth profile of the detected services along the route, which helps a designer decide where a new cable must pass over or under an existing line.
Many DISCOM and EPC scopes ask for that profile; others need only marking and a plan record. Check your work order, and if it mentions an L-section, say so when you ask for a quote so the field work is planned for it from day one. You can also take the L-section on some stretches and the standard survey on the rest. Our L-section GPR survey page explains the service in plain terms.
Where does underground utility mapping in Gujarat go further than a route survey?
A marked route answers one question: is it safe to dig along this line? Underground utility mapping in Gujarat answers a wider one: what lies under this whole road, estate or campus, and where exactly? Mapping earns its place when:
- a GIDC estate wants a single record of process lines, effluent pipes, earthing and power cables before an expansion;
- a road-widening or smart-city package has to shift services and needs to know what is there first;
- a plant plans new foundations or pipe racks and every buried line must be proved beforehand;
- several contractors will dig in one corridor over a few years and need a shared reference.
Field work for mapping uses the same radar and EM methods and the same per-metre rates. The drawings that turn findings into a coordinate record are quoted separately, because their scope varies so much from one client to the next.
How much does a GPR survey cost in Gujarat?
The rate card is identical in every Gujarat town:
- Standard GPR survey: ₹24 per metre, or ₹24,000 per km.
- L-section GPR survey: ₹32 per metre.
- Minimum survey length: 4 km, so a 2.5 km job is billed as 4 km.
- Project minimum: ₹1,00,000, because every Gujarat site lies outside Delhi NCR.
- Whole-order discount: 25% once the order passes 100 km, 40% past 500 km and 50% past 1,000 km.
- GST is added on the invoice.
The discount applies to every metre in the order, not only the metres above the slab. A 100 km standard survey therefore comes to ₹24,00,000, while a 120 km order billed at ₹18 per metre comes to ₹21,60,000 – less money for more route. At the small end, 4 km of standard survey works out at ₹96,000, so the ₹1 lakh project minimum is the figure that applies.
Mobilisation, night-shift working, traffic arrangements and permissions, and CAD/GIS drawing sets are not covered by the per-metre figure. Where your job needs them, they appear as separate lines in the written quote. The full slab table is on our GPR survey price list.
How deep can radar see in Gujarat soil?
Depth depends on the ground and its moisture, so it is measured on site rather than promised in advance. Our notes from Vadodara show radar typically reaching 2.5–3.5 m in open ground in the city's alluvium with moderate clay. Other parts of the state behave differently:
- Wet clay and saline ground, common near the coast, creeks and estuaries, absorb the signal and cut depth.
- Dry, sandy ground generally lets radar see further.
- Stony fill, rubble and old road crust scatter the signal and make small targets harder to pick out.
The report states the depth reached, section by section. Where a required depth is beyond what the ground allows, it says so plainly, and a trial pit or EM check can be planned at that point.
How quickly can a Gujarat survey start and finish?
Crews and systems mobilise from our Faridabad yard. We own 58 GPR systems and employ our own crews, so a start date never hangs on hiring a machine or finding a sub-contractor. Three things shape the programme:
- On open corridors with day and night shifts, our peak output is 100 km a day, and our fastest month delivered 700 km in 30 days.
- City roads, estate lanes and plant areas move more slowly, because the grid is tighter and working hours are often limited.
- Plant permits, road-owner permissions and shutdown windows can add days before field work begins.
Monsoon months deserve a mention too. Waterlogged roads and saturated ground slow the crews and can reduce radar depth, so on low-lying stretches it often pays to schedule the scan for drier weeks where the contract allows.
Send the route and your preferred start date, and the quote will carry a realistic programme. For background on why survey comes first on central Gujarat cable conversion jobs, read our guide on MGVCL underground cabling and GPR survey.
What should you send us for a Gujarat quote?
- The route itself – KML, marked-up drawing or the roads it follows from origin to end – plus the total length.
- Town, taluka or district, and whether the route runs on public roads, inside a GIDC estate or within a plant.
- Whether your scope needs a standard survey, an L-section or a mix of the two.
- Any drawing set you require, so it can be priced as its own line.
- Working-hour limits, night-only stretches and permits you already hold.
- Your target start date.
With these details we can confirm length, slab, minimums and extras in one written quote. Call +91 99100 10209 or email kumar@mezux.in if it is quicker to talk the route through.

Questions about GPR survey in Gujarat
Do you survey outside the big Gujarat cities?
Yes. Our crews work in district towns, talukas, GIDC estates and on rural feeder routes as well as in the large cities. Smaller places such as Lunawada, Chhota Udepur or Dahod are priced on the same per-metre rate card, and the ₹1 lakh project minimum applies to each project.
Does the volume discount apply to the whole Gujarat order?
It does. Once the order total passes 100 km, every metre is billed at 25% off, including the first 100 km. Past 500 km the reduction is 40%, and past 1,000 km it is 50%. That is why an order slightly above a slab can cost less than one just below it.
Can GPR trace plastic water or gas pipes?
Often, because radar reacts to a change in material and a plastic pipe differs from the soil around it. Small plastic pipes at depth or in wet clay can be missed, and an EM locator cannot follow them unless a tracer wire was laid. The report flags any expected line that could not be confirmed.
Do you need to cut the road to carry out the survey?
No. GPR and EM locating are non-destructive, so nothing is dug for the scan itself. On busy roads, traffic arrangements and permissions may be needed, and those are charged separately from the per-metre rate. Trial pits or boreholes are dug only if you ask for physical confirmation.
Can you work inside a running plant in a GIDC estate?
Yes, within the plant's permit system and safety rules. Buried lines inside a factory compound crowd each other, which means denser scan lines and slower daily progress than on a highway. Any line we cannot identify is flagged for the plant's maintenance team to confirm before work goes ahead.
Will you locate a fault on an existing HT cable?
Locating a cable fault is work we take on, though we treat it as a job apart from the route survey and price it separately. When you get in touch, give the cable type, its rough length and the symptoms, and we will suggest how the fault can be traced.
