Why do Sanand projects call for a GPR survey company before digging?
Sanand sits in Ahmedabad district, west of Ahmedabad city, and over the last two decades its GIDC estates have filled with automobile and engineering plants. That growth means new HT feeders, water and effluent lines, fire mains and fibre connections keep going into the same ground, often laid by different contractors who never saw each other's drawings.
When a plant adds a shed, a substation or a new road, the excavation crew is working blind unless someone has looked first. Hiring a GPR survey company in Sanand before the first cut gives the site engineer a map of what is actually there, painted on the ground and written into a report, rather than a guess built on old layouts.
Typical reasons clients ask us to scan:
- laying a new HT or LT cable from a substation to a plant;
- running water, effluent or fire-hydrant pipes across an estate road;
- OFC ducts for factories and the offices that serve them;
- foundations, pits or trenches on an occupied industrial plot.
Which buried services turn up inside Sanand's industrial estates?
Estate roads look orderly from above, yet the ground under their verges tends to be crowded. Plots were allotted and built at different times, so each one brought its own connections. On an industrial route or plot we usually find:
- Power – HT incomers, LT distribution inside the plant, street-light cables and earthing strips.
- Water and fire – supply mains, hydrant rings and sprinkler feeds, many of them in plastic.
- Drainage and effluent – storm drains, sewer lines and process-water or effluent pipes leading to treatment units.
- Telecom – copper cables, HDPE ducts and OFC laid for plant offices and control rooms.
- Process lines – compressed air, gas or other metal pipelines between buildings.
Plastic pipes carry no current, so radar is the main way to pick them up; conductive cables are cross-checked with an EM locator. Our guide to GPR survey in GIDC industrial estates covers estate work across the state in more depth, and power cabling has its own page on underground cable detection.
How is a running plant scanned without stopping production?
Most Sanand jobs happen inside working factories, where trucks, forklifts and shift changes do not pause for a survey team. The work is planned around the plant rather than the other way round:
- Safety induction and permit. Our crew follows the plant's own work-permit system and PPE rules before entering any area.
- Zoning. The plot is split into blocks, and each block is scanned when the plant can spare it – a loading bay at night, a yard during a shutdown.
- Grid scanning. Open areas are covered on a grid so that pipes and cables running in any direction are caught, not only those crossing a single line.
- EM tracing of live feeders. Where the plant electrical team can give access to a cable at a panel, we connect a transmitter and follow it underground.
- Marking and handover. Finds are painted out in each zone as it is finished, so civil work can begin there while scanning moves on.
Night or shutdown working is charged separately from the per-metre rate, and we confirm it on the quote before the visit.
How does route work differ between the town, the estates and the highway?
Not every Sanand job is inside a fence. Cable and pipe routes also run through the older town, along the road towards Ahmedabad and out to villages around the estates. Each setting needs a different approach:
- Old town streets are narrow, with house connections, drains and overhead-to-underground risers packed close together, so line spacing is tighter and cross-lines are added at every lane mouth.
- Estate approach roads are wide, but their verges have been dug repeatedly; we scan both shoulders and the median where a crossing is planned.
- Highway and rural feeder routes are long and straight, which suits continuous radar lines with extra passes at culverts, canal crossings and junctions.
Where a crossing will be bored rather than trenched, we scan the bore path and both pit locations so the drilling team knows what lies between them.
What do GPR scanning services in Sanand cost?
Our charge is set per metre surveyed. Standard route or plot scanning is ₹24 a metre; adding a depth profile of detected services as an L-section raises it to ₹32 a metre. Any order under 4 km is billed as 4 km, and because Sanand is outside Delhi NCR, no project here is billed below ₹1,00,000. GST is added on top of every figure.
| Example job | Survey type | Before GST |
|---|---|---|
| 2 km of scan lines in one plant | Standard | ₹1,00,000 (4 km billed at ₹96,000, raised to the project minimum) |
| 12 km HT feeder route | Standard | ₹2,88,000 |
| 12 km HT feeder route | L-section | ₹3,84,000 |
| 130 km district programme | Standard, 25% slab | ₹23,40,000 |
Large Sanand orders are discounted over their whole length, not just the excess. A Sanand order whose total exceeds 100 km sees each metre fall in price by 25%; exceed 500 km and the fall is 40%; exceed 1,000 km and each metre costs half. Night working, mobilisation, drawings in CAD/GIS and traffic arrangements or permissions appear on separate quote lines. See the slab table in full on our GPR survey price list .
Who distributes power around Sanand, and are we connected to them?
UGVCL – Uttar Gujarat Vij Company Ltd., with its head office in Mehsana – is the state distribution company for north Gujarat. Torrent Power holds the licence for Ahmedabad city itself, so a route that starts in the city and ends in Sanand may pass between two network owners.
Mezux Touch is not affiliated with UGVCL, Torrent Power or any other DISCOM. We work for the contractor, consultant or plant owner who places the order, and our findings go to them.
Does Sanand soil limit how deep the radar can see?
Depth reach depends on what the ground is made of and how wet it is. Clay that holds water, or ground carrying salts, weakens the signal; dry, sandy ground lets it travel further. Around Sanand the picture changes within a single plot – compacted fill under a plant road, natural soil in a green belt, low-lying patches that stay damp after the monsoon.
So we do not promise one depth for the area. A ground penetrating radar survey Sanand engineers can rely on records the depth actually achieved on each section, and says plainly where the radar could not see. If a crossing or foundation depends on proving a deep service, we can open trial pits or drill boreholes at those points on request. Our article on soil conditions and GPR limits explains the physics.
How do our crews reach Sanand from Faridabad?
We have no Sanand office. Crews travel from our Faridabad base with company-owned equipment – 58 GPR systems and 18 HDD rigs in total, run by our own staff, with no hired machines and no sub-letting. Since 2003 those crews have completed 1.5 lakh+ km of GPR survey in 28+ States and UTs.
Sanand is close enough to Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar that routes in all three can share one mobilisation, which lowers the travel cost per kilometre and brings a programme closer to the 100 km slab. The Gujarat GPR survey page lists the other towns we cover in the state.

One rate per metre
Plot grids and long routes are both charged at ₹24 a metre, so a 12 km feeder scan comes to ₹2,88,000 before GST.
L-section only where asked
Pay ₹32 a metre for the depth profile only on stretches where the work order calls for it, and the standard rate elsewhere.
Combine plots in one estate
Several plants on one GIDC estate road can be scanned under a single order, which helps clear the 4 km and project minimums.
Slabs cut the whole bill
Once the total passes 100 km every metre drops by 25%, with 40% beyond 500 km and half off above 1,000 km.
Owned systems, no hire margin
All 58 radar units belong to us, so the quote carries no equipment rental and no sub-contractor markup.

Questions about GPR survey in Sanand
Can you scan inside a plant that runs three shifts?
Yes. We divide the plot into zones and scan each when the plant can release it, which may mean a night slot for a loading bay or a shutdown day for a busy yard. Our crew works under the plant's permit and safety rules. Night or shutdown working is quoted separately.
Will radar find plastic fire-hydrant and water pipes?
Usually, because radar responds to the contrast between the pipe and the soil around it, not to metal. Small-diameter plastic lines that are deep or sit in wet clay are harder to see. The report gives a confidence note for each find, so your team knows which ones to verify by hand before cutting.
Our plot drawings are years old. Is the survey still useful?
That is the case where it helps most. Old layouts rarely show the cables and pipes added during later expansions. We scan the ground as it is today and record everything detected, whether or not it appears on the drawing, then flag differences so the plant team can update its own records.
Is the ₹1,00,000 minimum charged in addition to the metre rate?
No. ₹1,00,000 is simply the floor for any project outside Delhi NCR, Sanand included. When metres times rate add up to less, the invoice is lifted to ₹1,00,000; when they add up to more, the calculated figure stands. Mobilisation and GST are charged on top either way.
Can you tell which cable belongs to which plant?
Radar alone cannot read ownership. Where we can connect an EM transmitter at a known panel or chamber, we trace that cable and label it. Lines we cannot attribute are reported as unidentified rather than assigned by guesswork, so nobody treats a stranger's feeder as their own dead cable.
Do you also handle cable fault locating in Sanand?
We do, but it is a different job from a route survey. Fault locating pinpoints where an existing cable has failed, while a route survey maps what lies along a planned alignment. Each is scoped and quoted on its own, and both can be planned into the same visit if needed.
