Why we take the whole corridor rather than a part of it

A national fibre corridor rarely fails on drilling. It fails at the joins: a survey that arrives after the gang is standing by, a permission that clears when the rig is committed elsewhere, an as-built nobody produced because the contract ended at commissioning.

Every one of those is an interface between separately contracted parties, and every one of them is invisible in a tender document. Taking survey, permissions, drilling, cable and testing under a single responsibility removes them rather than managing them.

This is also why we do not accept partial scopes on telecom projects. A contract for splicing alone, or blowing alone, or trenching alone, puts us on one side of exactly the interface that causes the problem, with no authority over the other.

What a direct award changes

We work directly with telecom operators and internet service providers on their own projects. That is a deliberate commercial position rather than a preference, and it exists because a corridor date can only be committed by whoever controls the sequence.

Working beneath another contractor means our crew availability, our rig allocation and our permission pursuit all sit behind decisions made elsewhere. We would be accepting responsibility for a programme we do not control, which is not a promise worth making.

It also means our capacity is available when a direct client needs it, rather than committed to filling gaps in someone else's schedule.

The scale we can actually take

Capacity extends to 5,000 km a year on our own group resources and up to 10,000 km with established associates, on fourteen owned GPR systems and eighteen owned HDD rigs with directly employed crews.

Below 50 km the mobilisation and programme overhead of a corridor contract outweighs its benefit, which is why that is our minimum length. Below ₹1 crore the same applies commercially. Those thresholds are stated openly because a client whose project sits under them is better served elsewhere, and finding that out at tender stage saves everyone time.

How a corridor is delivered

Eight stages, one contract, one accountable party

Route survey and subsurface clearance

Before an alignment is fixed, the corridor is surveyed by our own GPR crews. Existing services, crossings and ground conditions are established and issued as a chainage-referenced schedule, because a route designed against assumed ground is redesigned during construction at considerably greater cost.

Permissions across every jurisdiction on the route

Our in-house liaison desk maps which body governs which stretch, then files with each: municipal corporations, development authorities, PWD, NHAI, railways, metro corporations, irrigation departments and cantonment boards. On a long corridor these are opened well ahead of the construction front, because crossings wait rather than slip.

Trenchless crossings on owned rigs

Roads, railways, canals and rivers are crossed by horizontal directional drilling on our own eighteen rigs. Machine class is matched to the ground segment rather than to contract length, since a rig sized for alluvium stalls in rock and one sized for rock is uneconomic in clay.

Open-cut sections where they are genuinely cheaper

Not every metre needs a bore. On open ground with simple reinstatement and no traffic, open cut is the correct answer and we say so. The decision is made from ground, surface constraint and permission regime rather than from which equipment we happen to own.

Duct laying and fibre blowing

Duct is inspected for bend radius and joint quality before cable is blown, because a fault found at the blowing stage costs a fraction of one found after reinstatement. Blowing distances are planned against actual duct condition rather than catalogue figures.

Jointing and termination to a stated loss budget

Splicing is done by our own trained teams against a loss budget agreed before work rather than assessed afterwards against whatever was achieved. Every joint is recorded so a future fault can be isolated without re-tracing the whole route.

OTDR on every fibre, not a sample

Each fibre receives its own OTDR trace with loss measured against budget. Sampling is an assumption dressed as a result, and untested splices resurface as marginal performance months after handover.

As-built record and restoration closure

The corridor is handed over with a coordinate-tied as-built, splice and test records, duct occupancy where it has value, and every restoration certificate closed with deposits recovered. An open obligation on one corridor delays applications on the next.

Where we work

From Jammu & Kashmir to Kanyakumari, across 28 or more States and Union Territories, with crews and plant mobilising from Faridabad and project bases established for the duration of larger programmes.

Corridors we are set up to deliver include Delhi–Mumbai, Mumbai–Chennai, Bengaluru–Kolkata, Delhi–Patna, Delhi–Indore and Jammu–Patna, along with regional and access networks in Delhi NCR, Gurugram, Mumbai, Bihar and Jharkhand.

What we do not do, stated plainly

We do not take telecom work as a sub-contractor to another contractor. We do not accept partial scopes — HDD alone, splicing alone, blowing alone or trenching alone — on telecom projects. We do not hire out HDD machines, and we do not supply rigs without our own crews and our own scope.

Local underground utility work is a separate matter entirely and does follow different rules: water, sewer, gas and fire-line installation for buildings, colonies and campuses is accepted from a minimum order value of ₹1 lakh, and a single line is a perfectly reasonable scope there.

Mezux Touch contracts for complete telecom underground delivery rather than for individual activities within it. The distinction matters commercially: an operator awarding survey, drilling, cable and testing to four parties is managing four schedules and three interfaces, and the interfaces are where the programme is actually lost. Our thresholds — ₹1 crore, 50 km, direct award, full scope — exist to make that model work rather than to be difficult.

Why each threshold exists

The ₹1 crore and 50 km minimums reflect real fixed cost: mobilising crews, plant and a liaison desk onto a corridor carries an overhead that a short scope cannot absorb, and pretending otherwise produces a bad job at a good rate. The direct-award requirement exists because a date can only be committed by whoever controls sequence; beneath another contractor we would be guaranteeing a programme we do not run. The full-scope requirement exists because partial contracts leave us accountable for an outcome that depends on someone else's work.

What the contract actually covers

Route survey with a chainage-referenced crossing schedule and confidence stated per feature. Permission files with jurisdiction mapped, conditions transcribed into the method statement and restoration closed with deposits recovered. HDD crossings with as-built profiles in plan and long section tied to coordinates. Duct and cable installation with occupancy recorded. Splicing to an agreed loss budget with a record per joint. OTDR traces for every fibre rather than a sample. And a handover record structured so the operator's own team can maintain it rather than one requiring us to return for every change.

Beyond the basics

Why not just take the drilling? Because a bore is only as good as the survey that preceded it and the permission that allowed it. Taking one stage means accepting risk created by parties we do not control.

Is the 50 km minimum negotiable? Rarely, and we would rather say so at first contact. Below it the mobilisation overhead makes the price look unreasonable to the client and the margin unworkable for us.

What if an EPC contractor approaches you? For telecom corridor work we would decline and explain why. It is not a comment on the contractor; it is that the model only works when the award and the sequence sit together.

Can capacity really reach 10,000 km? With established associates and a direct award, yes. On group resources alone the figure is 5,000 km a year, and we distinguish between the two rather than quoting the larger number.

How is a long corridor sequenced? Crossings and multi-jurisdiction permissions open first because they wait rather than slip, and survey runs immediately ahead of the construction front so the data is fresh when used.
