Service — L-Section GPR Survey

L-Section GPR Survey for Cable & Pipeline Routes

An L-section survey shows how deep each detected buried service lies along the length of your cable or pipeline route – one depth profile your designer and client can read at a glance.

Quick answer

An L-section GPR survey scans your planned cable or pipeline route and presents the depth of every detected underground service as a continuous profile along that route. Mezux Touch prices it at ₹32 per metre, eight rupees above the ₹24 standard survey rate, with a 4 km minimum order, slab discounts above 100 km and GST extra.

A single radar pass along the route supplies both plan and depth data.
Side-view profile drawing of pipes and cables lying at varying depths
The profile shows how deep each detected service sits along your alignment.

Ground type decides how deep the profile can go; the report states it.
Printed survey report with tables and a profile drawing on a desk
Profile and written report go to the client as one package.

What is an L-section GPR survey?

Think of an L-section (longitudinal section) as the ground sliced lengthwise along a route and viewed from the side. An L-section GPR survey uses radar scanning to build that side view for the services under your planned alignment: each water main, sewer, gas pipe, duct or cable detected along the way is shown at the depth where it was found.

A standard survey answers the question "where is it?" in plan. The L-section also answers "how deep is it, all the way along?" – which is what a designer asks when setting the laying depth of a new cable or pipe and deciding where it must dip or rise to pass existing services. Contractors who search for GPR profiling services for a specific route usually need exactly this.

The profile can only show what radar reaches. How far it reaches depends on soil and moisture: moist clay and salty ground cut it down, while dry sand lets the signal go further, and our report notes, stretch by stretch, how deep the radar got.

When do contractors need an L-section?

Not every job does. The profile earns its extra ₹8 per metre in situations like these:

  • the work order or tender asks for an L-section drawing for the cable route to be submitted along with the survey;
  • the route runs through congested streets where the new line must pass over some services and under others;
  • part of the route will be laid by HDD, and the bore has to clear existing services;
  • a pipeline or duct must hold a gradient, so depth along the full length matters;
  • the client wants a record of what lay beneath the route before construction.

Where the job is a simple land survey for underground electrical cabling along open rural verges with few services, the standard survey is usually enough. Not sure which one your contract needs? Send us the survey clause and we will tell you plainly.

Field work is planned differently when a profile is required, so it is better to order the L-section at the outset than to add it once a standard survey has been completed.

What does an L-section GPR survey cost?

The rate is ₹32 per running metre, or ₹32,000 per kilometre. A few rules shape the final figure:

  • Minimum length: 4 km per order, so the smallest L-section job is billed at ₹1,28,000. That already clears the ₹1 lakh project minimum that applies beyond Delhi NCR.
  • Volume slabs: once the full order goes beyond 100 km, the rate becomes ₹24/m; beyond 500 km, ₹19.20/m; beyond 1,000 km, ₹16/m. The lower rate covers every metre, not just the extra ones.
  • Taxes and extras: GST is added separately. Mobilisation, night-shift working, traffic arrangements or permissions, and CAD/GIS drawing sets sit outside the per-metre rate and are quoted on their own.

As an example, a 50 km cable route costs ₹16,00,000 with the L-section against ₹12,00,000 for the standard survey, both before GST. The GPR survey price list sets out every rate and slab.

How do you order an L-section survey?

  1. Send the route as a KML file or marked drawing through our quote form, with its approximate length.
  2. Tell us what the route is for – HT/LT cable, OFC duct, water or gas pipeline – and whether any part will be bored.
  3. Share the clause in your work order that describes the survey or L-section required.
  4. We reply with a quote showing the ₹32/m rate, any slab, minimums and separately priced items, plus a working programme.
  5. Crews mobilise from Faridabad with company-owned GPR systems and start on the stretches you need first.

For power cable jobs, the HT/LT cable route survey page explains the full route survey this profile is built on. Contractors in central Gujarat can use our Vadodara L-section page, and our article about L-section requirements on DISCOM cabling jobs discusses how these profiles are used on distribution projects.

STEP 1

Send the route file

With a KML or marked drawing we can measure the true route length and price the L-section accurately at ₹32 per metre.

STEP 2

Confirm the requirement

Share the work-order clause so the profile matches what your client expects to receive alongside the survey report.

STEP 3

Radar runs the route

Our crew scans along the alignment, using EM locating on conductive lines, and collects the depth data the profile needs.

STEP 4

Services marked on site

Detected lines are painted on the ground with approximate depth, so excavation can begin while the profile is prepared.

STEP 5

Profile and report issued

You receive the depth profile of detected services with the report, including depth reached and any stretches left unscanned.

Order the profile up front

Planning field work for a profile from day one avoids a second mobilisation, which almost always costs more than the ₹8 per metre difference.

Profile only where it matters

On mixed routes, order the L-section for congested or bored stretches and the standard survey for open lengths within the same order.

Let long orders reach slabs

Beyond 100 km of L-section work, every metre drops to ₹24 – the same as the standard rate on a smaller job.

Use the 4 km minimum fully

Short routes are billed as 4 km, so grouping nearby small routes into a single order makes full use of that minimum.

Separate items stay visible

Mobilisation, night work, permissions and CAD/GIS sets appear as their own lines, so different quotes can be compared fairly.

Written quote, GST shown extra

Every quote states the per-metre rate before GST and the minimums that apply, so the final bill holds no surprises.

FAQ

L-section survey questions

Does an L-section show services that radar could not detect?

No. The profile shows only what was detected. Where ground conditions limit radar depth, the report states the depth reached in that section, so a blank part of the profile is not mistaken for clear ground. Where certainty matters, ask for trial pits or boreholes as an add-on.

Can I order an L-section for only part of my route?

Yes. Many routes have open stretches where a standard survey is enough and congested or bored stretches where a profile helps. The quote can show both rates within the same order; simply tell us which lengths need the L-section and which do not.

Is the L-section only for power cables?

No. The same profile is useful on OFC duct routes, water and sewer lines, and gas pipelines – in fact on any alignment where the depth of existing services along the way affects how the new line is laid, crossed or bored.

Does the ₹32 rate include CAD drawings?

The ₹32 per metre rate is for the L-section survey. CAD or GIS drawing sets prepared to your client's format are quoted separately, as are mobilisation, night-shift working and traffic arrangements or permissions. This way you pay only for the drawing deliverables your contract actually requires.

Will the L-section add time to the programme?

Somewhat, both on site and in the office, because depth data has to be collected and checked along the whole route rather than at selected points. The programme in our quote allows for this, based on route length, congestion and the working hours permitted on the road.

What if we ordered a standard survey and now need the profile?

It is possible, though crews normally have to return to site, because profile data is collected differently. A second visit brings another round of mobilisation and traffic arrangements, so ordering the L-section with the original survey normally works out cheaper overall.
