Quick answer

Pre-excavation GPR mapping in Vadodara finds and marks buried cables, pipes and ducts inside the dig area before trenching, piling or road cutting, so crews avoid strikes. Mezux Touch prices route scans at ₹24 per metre, subject to a 4 km order minimum and, beyond Delhi NCR, a ₹1,00,000 project floor; GST, mobilisation and drawings are extra.

Rates and page checked:

The radar cart crosses the dig footprint in closely spaced lines before any cut.
Coloured paint marks showing buried utility positions on a road
Each found service is painted in its own colour with approximate depth.
Workers hand-digging a trench near a marked underground service
Near every mark, machines give way to hand tools until the line is exposed.

Each arch in the radar record is a buried object; its crest gives the depth.

Why does pre-excavation GPR mapping in Vadodara matter?

Pre-excavation GPR mapping in Vadodara has one practical purpose: to stop a bucket, auger or road cutter hitting something live. A damaged LT cable can injure the operator, a punctured gas pipe forces an evacuation, a burst water main floods the cut and a severed fibre knocks out connectivity for a whole area. Every one of these also halts the job while the owner makes repairs.

The city holds a mix of services that makes blind digging risky. Older neighbourhoods have water and drainage lines laid long before present-day records, piped gas runs under many residential roads, and telecom operators keep adding ducts along the footpaths. Around the refinery and petrochemical belt near Koyali and the GIDC estates, product and process pipelines raise the stakes further.

New power cabling adds to the load. Listed contractors announced large MGVCL orders during 2026 for underground networks and covered-conductor work, including the Baroda area, which means more trenches cutting across streets that already carry other services. Mezux Touch is independent of MGVCL and every other DISCOM; we work for the contractor or owner who engages us.

What underground hazards does the scan look for?

Underground hazard mapping in Vadodara covers anything in the dig zone that could cause injury, damage or delay. The crew looks for:

  • Power cables – HT and LT distribution cables, street-light feeders and service connections;
  • Gas lines – city distribution pipes, and transmission pipelines close to the industrial belt;
  • Water and sewer – mains, house connections, storm drains and old masonry drains;
  • Telecom – ducts and direct-buried fibre or copper;
  • Process and effluent lines inside GIDC plots and plant premises;
  • Unknown objects – old foundations, buried tanks, abandoned pipes and cavities that appear as anomalies.

Metallic cables and pipes are confirmed with electromagnetic locating. Our underground cable detection and underground pipeline detection pages explain how each kind of service is found.

How is a site scanned and marked before digging?

  1. Fix the dig footprint. Your site engineer shows us the trench line, pile positions or cut area, plus a working margin either side.
  2. Run the radar. The GPR cart crosses the footprint in closely spaced lines, with extra passes where reflections suggest bends or branches.
  3. Trace conductive lines. An electromagnetic locator follows metallic services to confirm their direction and pick up any that showed faintly on radar.
  4. Paint the ground. Every line is painted in the colour for its utility type, with an approximate depth beside it, and unidentified anomalies get a mark of their own.
  5. Hand over on site. We walk the marks with your supervisor and point out the stretches that need hand-digging.

A safe excavation utility survey in Vadodara is only as good as that handover. The machine operator must see the marks, and understand them, before the first cut is made.

Does the method change for trenching, piling and road cutting?

  • Trenching – the scan follows the trench line and widens at each crossing road, gate and chamber, because services often turn there.
  • Piling and foundations – every pile cap or footing location is gridded, since a single bored pile can pierce a line that a shallow trench would never touch.
  • Road cutting – the scan spans the full cut width plus its edges, as services frequently run along the kerb; on busy Vadodara roads this may call for night working, quoted separately.

Depth matters most for piling and deep pits. Radar in the city's open ground usually reads down to somewhere between 2.5 and 3.5 metres; when a dig goes below that, we say so and suggest trial pits or boreholes for the deeper zone. Building sites are covered in more detail on our construction site GPR survey page.

What can a utility scan not promise?

No survey method sees everything, and saying so is part of safe practice. Radar can miss a small plastic pipe in wet clay, lose deep lines under heavy fill, or blur services that run tightly together. Electromagnetic locating cannot find non-metallic pipes unless a tracer wire was laid with them. For these reasons:

  • dig by hand near every marked line, and slowly between marks;
  • treat unmarked ground as unverified rather than clear;
  • stop and call if the crew meets warning tape, sand bedding or a line that is not on the marks.

Our report lists the areas we could not reach and the depth achieved, so the limits stay on record. The article on preventing utility strikes sets out more site practices.

How is pre-excavation scanning priced in Vadodara?

Route-type scans such as trench and cable lines are charged at ₹24 per metre. Every order is billed at no less than 4 km, and Vadodara projects carry a ₹1,00,000 floor because the city is outside Delhi NCR. Site grids for piling or foundations are quoted after we see the layout, under the same minimums. GST is added to the bill.

The minimums shape how small jobs should be ordered. A 600 m trench at a single plot is billed as 4 km (₹96,000) and then raised to ₹1,00,000, so it makes sense to group several sites, phases or plots into one order. A contractor scanning 6 km of trench lines across an estate pays 6,000 × ₹24 = ₹1,44,000 before GST. Separate charges apply for mobilisation, night working, traffic and permission arrangements, and any CAD/GIS drawing set.

Slab discounts and worked examples are on the price list, and estate conditions are discussed on our Makarpura GIDC page.

What should the site team do once the marks are painted?

Paint on a Vadodara road does not last long, so the dig ought to begin within days of the scan. Keep the paint visible, photograph it, and brief every operator and helper before the shift starts. If work pauses for weeks or the trench line moves, ask for a re-scan of the changed stretch instead of trusting old paint.

TIP 1

Hand-dig near marks

Switch from machine to hand tools inside the marked zone around every line, and expose the service before cutting below it.

TIP 2

Treat blanks as unverified

Ground without marks has not been proven clear, which is why areas we could not scan are listed in the report.

TIP 3

Dig soon after scanning

Paint fades quickly under city traffic and monsoon rain, so plan excavation within days of the scan rather than weeks.

TIP 4

Stop when something appears

Warning tape, sand bedding or an unmarked pipe in the trench means stop work and call us before going any deeper.

TIP 5

Brief every operator

Walk the marks with excavator drivers and helpers at the start of each shift, so nobody digs from memory or guesswork.

Group plots and phases together

Several sites or construction phases in one order share one project minimum, instead of each small scan paying ₹1,00,000 on its own.

Peg the dig footprint clearly

Pegging trench lines and pile positions before we arrive keeps the crew scanning only ground you will actually excavate.

Excavate right after marking

Starting the dig soon after the scan avoids paying for a re-scan once paint has faded or the layout has shifted.

Clear the footprint beforehand

Moving stacked material, vehicles and debris off the work area reduces no-access patches and the need for a second visit.

Order drawings only when needed

For a straightforward dig, ground marks and the signed report may be enough; add CAD drawings only when the design calls for them.

Limit night work to busy roads

Night shifts carry a separate charge, so we plan them only where Vadodara traffic or the road authority genuinely requires it.

FAQ

Questions about pre-excavation scanning in Vadodara

How far ahead should we book a pre-excavation scan?

Book once the dig layout is fixed, not before. Crews travel from Faridabad, so the start date is agreed in the written quote along with the programme. Scanning far ahead of excavation is also unhelpful, because paint marks fade under traffic and rain before the excavator arrives.

Can the scan tell us whether a cable is live?

GPR cannot; it shows that a cable is present, not whether it carries current. An electromagnetic locator in passive mode can pick up the field from a loaded power cable, which suggests it is live, but a missing signal does not prove a cable dead. Treat every cable as live until its owner confirms otherwise.

Which marking colours do you use?

We use the colour scheme agreed with the client, usually a common utility code such as red for power, yellow for gas, blue for water, green for sewers and drains, and orange for telecom. Unidentified lines receive a separate colour, so nobody mistakes them for a known service.

Do we still need a scan if the owner gave us drawings?

Yes. Owner drawings show where a line was meant to go, and positions often drift during laying and later repairs. They rarely give reliable depths, and each drawing shows only that owner's network. The scan checks the ground itself and picks up other owners' services in the same footprint.

Can you scan at night on busy Vadodara roads?

Yes. Where traffic or the road authority allows work only after dark, crews can scan at night. Night-shift working and any traffic arrangements are billed apart from the per-metre rate, so tell us early which stretches need it and we will show those costs on their own lines in the quote.

Is a scan worthwhile for a single small house connection?

Technically yes, but the billing minimums make a lone small job costly: each order counts as 4 km even when shorter, and projects beyond Delhi NCR are never invoiced under ₹1,00,000. Contractors with many connections or plots usually group them into one order so the minimum is shared.
