Quick answer

Underground utility mapping in Vadodara means locating every buried cable, pipe and duct on a site or corridor with GPR and electromagnetic tracing, then recording position and depth in drawings. Survey work by Mezux Touch is priced at ₹24 per metre, 4 km minimum, ₹1,00,000 per project; CAD/GIS drawing sets and mobilisation are quoted separately, GST extra.

Rates and page checked:

Survey crew member reviewing radar results on a tablet beside a road
Each line is checked on screen before it goes into the Vadodara utility record.
Stacked GIS layers showing water, power, gas and telecom lines
One layer per utility type, so a designer can switch services on and off.
CAD drawing of a street with coloured underground utility lines and depth notes
Layered DWG output with depth and detection method written against each line.
Electromagnetic locator tracing a buried metallic cable along a footpath
EM tracing follows metallic lines between radar passes and confirms their direction.

What does underground utility mapping in Vadodara involve?

Underground utility mapping in Vadodara means finding what is already buried under a street, campus or plant yard and recording it so that a designer can work from it months later. The output is a record, not only paint on the road: every detected line is placed in plan, given a depth where the radar shows one, and labelled with the method that found it.

That record is needed because the city's services were laid by different owners in different decades. Corporation water mains and storm drains, sewer lines, city gas pipes, ducts of several telecom operators, street-light feeders and power cables often share one road width, and very few were ever drawn to a common reference.

On each mapping job we combine three inputs:

  • Ground penetrating radar – 2D lines across the corridor, with 3D or high-resolution grids where services bunch together.
  • Electromagnetic locating – to follow metallic pipes and traceable cables between radar lines and confirm which way they run.
  • Existing records – drawings held by you or the asset owners, checked against what the ground actually shows rather than copied across.

The pace of change adds urgency. MGVCL, the distribution company headquartered in Vadodara, has awarded large orders for underground networks and covered-conductor conversion in its area, according to contractor announcements in August and October 2026, so new cable trenches are heading into streets that were never mapped. Mezux Touch is not affiliated with MGVCL in any way; we survey for whichever contractor or owner engages us.

Which Vadodara areas make mapping slow or difficult?

Ground and layout change a great deal within the corporation limits, so the survey plan changes with them. The stretches that need the most care are usually these:

  • The walled old city – narrow lanes around Mandvi and the old gates, where water, drainage and cables lie over one another and a radar cart has little room to turn.
  • Established central areas such as Alkapuri, Sayajigunj and Race Course, where services have been replaced piecemeal and abandoned lines often remain in the ground. Our Alkapuri GPR survey page covers that locality.
  • River and nala crossings – the Vishwamitri and its channels cut across many routes, and services tend to dip or bunch near bridges and culverts.
  • Rail and highway edges – the Western Railway line through Vadodara Junction, NH-48 and the Ahmedabad–Vadodara Expressway approaches, where utilities squeeze into narrow verges.
  • Industrial belts – GIDC estates at Makarpura, Nandesari, Por, Savli and Waghodia, and the refinery and petrochemical area around Koyali, where pipeline corridors and process lines need their own category in the record.

On open ground, the city's alluvium with its moderate clay content usually lets radar see 2.5 to 3.5 metres down. Wet soil near the river and canals, or heavy made-up fill, can cut that down, so the depth really reached is reported for every section.

How is subsurface utility engineering different from a marking survey?

A marking survey answers a short-term question: where may the excavator dig today? Subsurface utility engineering in Vadodara goes further and treats buried services as design information. Each line in the record carries a note of how it was obtained – taken from an existing drawing only, detected by GPR or electromagnetic locating, or seen physically in a trial pit – so the designer knows how much weight it can bear.

That grading lets a consultant decide where a new main, cable or foundation can go without a redesign later. Where a decision rests on exact position, such as a deep crossing or a chamber beside a gas line, we recommend a trial pit or borehole at that spot and can arrange one on request. Our SUE survey service explains the approach in more detail, and a related guide on utility mapping in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar shows how the same grading works in other Gujarat cities.

What CAD drawings and GIS layers can you provide?

Most Vadodara clients want the survey to land inside their own drawings, not in a separate file nobody opens. We can provide:

  • Underground utility CAD drawings – layered DWG, one layer per utility type, with depth notes and detection method on each line.
  • GIS layers – SHP or KML for a project or corporation GIS, with attributes for type, depth and confidence.
  • Signed survey report – coverage, depth achieved per section, any place we could not reach and every limitation met on site.
  • L-section – a depth profile of the services found along your route, when the scope asks for one (₹32 per metre instead of ₹24).

Drawing and GIS sets are priced on their own in the quote, apart from the per-metre survey rate, because the effort depends on your layer standard and the number of sheets. Vadodara is part of the national Smart Cities Mission, and smart city underground mapping tasks usually ask for data that loads into a GIS rather than printed sheets alone. Our utility mapping service lists the formats we work in.

When is 3D utility mapping worth ordering?

Ordinary 2D radar lines, run across the corridor at regular spacing, are enough for most road and footpath routes. 3D utility mapping services in Vadodara earn their cost where lines turn, branch or stack and a few cross-sections cannot show what happens between them:

  • road junctions and circles where four or five services meet;
  • plant yards and substations where earthing, cable trenches and process pipes overlap;
  • the footprint of a pumping station, chamber or foundation before its excavation is designed.

A 3D grid takes longer in the field, so we scope it area by area after seeing your site plan instead of applying it to a whole corridor.

How is utility corridor mapping in Vadodara priced?

For utility corridor mapping in Vadodara the survey is charged at ₹24 for every metre scanned, or ₹24,000 a kilometre. Every order carries a 4 km minimum, and since Vadodara lies outside Delhi NCR, the ₹1,00,000 project floor applies too. GST is added on the invoice.

  • A 3 km street network is billed as 4 km, or ₹96,000, so the ₹1,00,000 project minimum is charged instead.
  • A 9 km corridor costs 9,000 × ₹24 = ₹2,16,000 before GST.
  • Once a single order passes 100 km, 25% comes off every metre; beyond 500 km the discount is 40%, and beyond 1,000 km it is 50%.

Billed in addition to the per-metre figure: mobilisation, any night shifts, traffic management or permission work, and the CAD/GIS drawing set. Every discount slab is tabulated on our GPR survey price list.

What should you send before a mapping survey?

A clear brief saves a site visit and keeps the quote firm. Please share:

  1. the route or site boundary as KML, DWG or a marked map;
  2. the purpose – new main, cable, road widening, building or plant expansion;
  3. any existing utility drawings, even old or partial ones;
  4. the CAD layer standard or GIS schema the data must follow;
  5. working-hour limits, permits already held and site induction rules.

For ground conditions, approvals and locality pages across the city, start from our main GPR survey in Vadodara page.

STEP 1

Share the boundary

Send the route or site plan with any old utility drawings, and tell us which CAD or GIS format the final record must follow.

STEP 2

Radar across the corridor

Crews run GPR lines across the street at set spacing, adding dense grids at junctions, culverts and plant entries where lines bunch.

STEP 3

Trace metallic lines

Electromagnetic locators follow conductive pipes and cables between radar lines, confirming direction and separating parallel services lying close together.

STEP 4

Mark and photograph

Paint marks in agreed utility colours, with approximate depth written beside them, show every found service; we photograph them for the file.

STEP 5

Issue the layered record

Findings are compiled into the agreed drawing layers with a signed report stating coverage, depth reached and areas without access.

Combine your sites in one order

Several Vadodara streets or campuses placed under one order share a single project minimum and move closer to the 100 km discount slab.

Send drawings you already hold

Old layouts, even partial ones, let the crew plan line spacing and checks in advance, which shortens field days and keeps the quote tight.

Fix the CAD standard early

Giving us your layer names and title block before the survey avoids redrawing later, the most common cause of extra drawing cost.

Use 3D grids only where needed

Limit dense 3D grids to junctions and plant yards; ordinary 2D lines are adequate and quicker along straight road stretches.

Plan access with the site team

Cleared footpaths, opened gates and moved vehicles mean fewer no-access gaps and no return trips that need fresh mobilisation.

Ask for the L-section at the start

If the design needs a depth profile, ordering the ₹32 per metre L-section from day one costs less than a second field pass.

FAQ

Questions about underground utility mapping in Vadodara

Are you a GIS utility mapping agency in Vadodara or only a survey crew?

We handle both parts. Our crews collect the field data with GPR and electromagnetic locators, and our office team turns it into GIS layers or CAD drawings to your schema. The GIS or CAD set is quoted separately from the per-metre survey rate, so each cost is visible on its own line.

Can old, abandoned pipes show up in the survey?

Yes. Radar responds to a buried pipe whether or not it is in use, so redundant lines often appear beside live ones. Radar alone cannot always tell a dead line from a working one; where it matters, we flag the line as unconfirmed and suggest a trial pit or a check with the owner.

How deep can you map services in Vadodara?

On open ground in this alluvium with moderate clay, the radar signal usually gets between 2.5 and 3.5 metres deep. Wet patches near the Vishwamitri, canal banks and heavy fill reduce it. The report gives the depth actually achieved on each section, so nobody assumes a deep line was cleared when it was not.

Do you map inside factories and GIDC plots?

Yes, under the plant's permit and induction system. Inside a plot we usually record process pipes, effluent lines, cable trenches and earthing separately from municipal services, because striking each has different consequences. Plant safety staff normally walk the area with our crew on the first day.

Will your drawing line up with our existing site survey?

It can, if you share the control points or base drawing you are using. We tie our lines to that reference so the utility layers sit on your topographic survey without shifting. Without a shared base, positions are recorded against fixed features such as kerbs, poles and building corners.

How long does a mapping survey take in Vadodara?

That depends on street congestion and the deliverable. Open peripheral roads move quickly, while old-city lanes and dense 3D grids are slow. With 58 company-owned systems we can put several crews on one city, and the written quote carries a day-by-day programme for your route.
