What do HDD route survey services in Vadodara cover?
HDD route survey services in Vadodara prepare the ground for a directional bore before the rig arrives. A bore is blind in a way a trench is not: the driller steers the head from the surface and never sees what it passes. The survey therefore has to tell the bore designer what lies in the way and how much room there is around it.
For each crossing or bore section the survey normally covers:
- the entry pit and rig set-up area, where the drill string starts at a shallow angle;
- the bore path itself, with a corridor wide enough to allow for steering drift;
- the exit pit and the strip where the pipe or duct string is laid out before pullback;
- every service crossed – power cables, water and sewer mains, gas pipes, telecom ducts – recorded with position and approximate depth.
Fibre projects with many short bores are covered from the planning side on our OFC route survey in Vadodara page.
Which Vadodara crossings usually need a bore?
Open cutting is often refused, or simply impractical, at these places around the city:
- NH-48 and the Ahmedabad–Vadodara Expressway – national highway land where cutting across the carriageway is seldom permitted.
- Western Railway tracks at and around Vadodara Junction and the lines branching from it, where railway consent decides how the crossing is made.
- The Vishwamitri river and its nalas, which cut across many city routes, and the canal branches on the urban fringe.
- Busy arterial roads and circles inside the corporation area, where traffic and fresh surfacing make open trenches unwelcome.
- GIDC estate roads at Makarpura, Nandesari, Por and elsewhere, where plant gates and pipe racks leave little room to dig.
Approvals at these crossings are discussed in our article on HDD crossings of Gujarat roads and canals.
How deep can a utility survey before horizontal directional drilling see?
Depth is the main limit on any utility survey before horizontal directional drilling in Vadodara. On the city's alluvium with moderate clay, our field notes put radar reach at something like 2.5 to 3.5 metres where the ground is open. Bores under tracks, highways and canals are often planned deeper than that, and damp ground near the river shortens the reach further.
The survey report therefore keeps two things apart: the services we detected with their depths, and the depth band below which radar could not confirm anything. If the bore profile drops into that unconfirmed band, the report says so in plain words. The drilling team can then use owner records, trial pits at the entry and exit points, or a borehole on request to check the deeper zone before committing the rig.
Why scan the entry and exit pits so closely?
A large share of bore strikes happen near the two ends rather than in the middle. At entry and exit the drill string is shallow and climbing or diving steeply, so it passes through the same depth band as house connections, cable joints and shallow ducts. Pits are also opened by excavator, frequently in a hurry.
We grid the pit areas more densely than the bore path and mark them on the ground, so the pit crew knows where to dig by hand. Where a chosen pit spot is congested, the report suggests shifting it a few metres to clearer ground, which usually costs far less than protecting or diverting an existing line.
How does the survey feed the bore profile?
A bore designer needs a clearance figure from each service the bore passes. The standard ₹24-a-metre survey places the detected services in plan and notes their depth where measured. Choosing the ₹32-a-metre L-section instead gives a running depth profile of the same services along the bore, so the designer can draw the bore curve against them in one view. More detail is on our L-section GPR survey page.
If the contract asks for that profile, order it at the outset; it costs less than sending a crew back. When the choice between boring and trenching is still open, our comparison of trenchless and open-trench methods may help.
Why do crossings in central Gujarat need more care now?
Central Gujarat has long depended on overhead power lines. Power Line reported in August 2021 that MGVCL's underground line length in March 2020 was only 0.114 times its overhead length. The balance is now moving. In August 2026 a listed contractor reported emerging L1 on MGVCL work worth ₹275.05 crore (Kalkine), and in October 2026 an order of ₹471.92 crore was reported (Whalesbook), both for underground networks and covered-conductor conversion, with Borsad, Nadiad City and Baroda among the areas named.
Underground cabling on that scale means a great many road and drain crossings by HDD, often in streets where water, gas and telecom lines already compete for space. Contractors on such work need crossing surveys they can hand straight to their drilling teams. To be clear, Mezux Touch has no link with MGVCL or any other DISCOM – no order, no empanelment, no approval – and takes instructions only from the contractors and owners who hire it.
What does an HDD route survey cost in Vadodara?
Bore paths are billed by the metre of route scanned – ₹24 for the standard survey, ₹32 with the L-section. The 4 km order minimum applies, and so does the ₹1,00,000 project minimum that covers every site outside Delhi NCR; so a handful of short crossings is cheaper when ordered together with the rest of the route. GST is extra.
- Five road and nala crossings totalling 1.2 km: billed as 4 km, or ₹96,000, then raised to the ₹1,00,000 project minimum.
- A 40 km cable route with bores at each crossing, surveyed with an L-section: 40,000 × ₹32 = ₹12,80,000 before GST.
- The same route as a standard survey: 40,000 × ₹24 = ₹9,60,000 before GST.
Mobilisation, night working, traffic management and permissions, and CAD/GIS drawings are separate items. The GPR survey cost guide explains how slabs apply to larger orders. Mezux Touch also drills with 18 HDD rigs of its own – see HDD services – while ground, approvals and localities for the whole city are summarised on the main Vadodara GPR survey page.

Get HDD Route Survey in Vadodara at Best Prices
Survey crossings with the full route
Ordering bore crossings together with the rest of the cable or duct route spreads the minimums and may reach a discount slab.
Fix pit locations before the survey
Telling us where the rig and exit pits will sit avoids scanning alternatives and keeps the field time short.
Pick the L-section for deep crossings
Bores under rail, highway or canal benefit from a depth profile, and ordering it upfront costs less than a repeat visit.
Share owner drawings early
Records from road, rail and utility owners let us add lines where they show services, which saves re-runs later on.
Plan survey and drilling together
Because we run 18 HDD rigs of our own, surveyors and drillers can plan as one team and cut rework at pits.
Scan side roads by day
Night shifts are charged separately; quieter approach roads can often be scanned in daylight, leaving night work for busy crossings only.

Questions about HDD route surveys in Vadodara
Is a utility survey before horizontal directional drilling in Vadodara mandatory?
That depends on the road, rail or canal authority and on your contract. Many permits and work orders ask for evidence that the bore path was checked for existing services. Even where nobody insists, drilling through an unknown gas pipe or power cable costs far more than the survey would have.
Can GPR track the drill head during boring?
No. Steering relies on the drilling contractor's own walkover or wire-line guidance system. Our survey takes place before drilling and tells the driller what to avoid; it does not replace live tracking of the drill head once the bore is under way.
How wide a corridor do you scan along a bore?
Width depends on the bore's length, its depth and how congested the ground is. Longer and deeper bores drift more, so they get a wider corridor. We agree the width with your drilling engineer while planning the scan, instead of applying one fixed figure to every crossing.
What if the bore must run deeper than radar can see?
The report marks the depth band radar could not confirm. That zone can then be checked with owner records, a trial pit at the pit locations, or a borehole that we can arrange on request. We never describe deeper ground as clear when the radar did not reach it.
Can you survey for a contractor who drills with another firm's rigs?
Yes. The survey is a stand-alone service, and the report is written for whichever drilling team will use it. If you would also like our own HDD rigs for the bore, survey and drilling can be quoted together or as separate items.
Can you scan the bed of a nala or canal?
Radar cannot work through standing water, so the banks, approaches and pit areas on both sides are scanned in detail and the depth reached on each side is recorded. Dry nala beds outside the monsoon can sometimes be scanned directly, which gives a fuller picture of the crossing.
