Underground Utility Mapping — Ahmedabad, Gujarat

Underground Utility Mapping in Ahmedabad

For road widening, corridor upgrades and large sites in Ahmedabad, we map every buried service across the full working width, so designers start from what is in the ground rather than scattered records.

Quick answer

Underground utility mapping in Ahmedabad records the position and approximate depth of buried power cables, water and sewer lines, gas pipes and telecom ducts across a corridor or site, using GPR and EM locating. Mezux Touch charges ₹24 per metre surveyed, minimum 4 km and ₹1,00,000 per project. CAD/GIS drawing sets are quoted separately; GST extra.

Mezux survey team with radar carts and protective gear
One in-house team scans, traces and checks every layer of the map.
Separate map layers for power, water, sewer, gas and telecom lines
Each service type sits on its own layer, so owners can be consulted separately.
Engineering CAD drawing of buried utilities on a road plan
CAD drawing sets are available on request and priced apart from the survey.

Heritage lanes need handheld scanning and more time per metre mapped.

What does underground utility mapping in Ahmedabad produce?

Underground utility mapping in Ahmedabad is about the whole picture below a piece of ground, not just one planned line through it. Where a route survey asks "is my trench clear?", a mapping survey asks "what is under this road, plot or junction, and where?"

Every mapping job delivers, as standard:

  • ground marks for each detected service, in utility colours, with approximate depth;
  • a signed report listing services by type, position and estimated depth;
  • a clear statement of areas not scanned and of depth reached on each section.

On top of that, CAD and GIS drawing sets can be prepared from the survey data. They are ordered and priced separately, because content and format vary from client to client. For the wider radar offer in the city, see our Ahmedabad GPR survey page; our general approach to mapping is on the utility mapping service page.

How is mapping a whole corridor different from clearing one route?

When a road is to be widened, a flyover or metro station built, or a junction redesigned, the designer needs to know what sits across the entire right of way – kerb to kerb and often beyond. Utility corridor mapping in Ahmedabad therefore covers the full width with a grid of radar lines rather than a single strip.

The differences in practice:

  • Width. Scan lines cover footpaths, carriageway and medians, not just the side the cable will use.
  • Crossings. Services running across the road are recorded along their full length within the corridor.
  • Classification. Each find is assigned to a service type where evidence allows, so the designer can contact the right owner.
  • Pricing. Billing is on the total length of scan lines needed to cover the corridor, at the same metre rate.

Our utility corridor mapping page covers the method for long corridors.

Why are Ahmedabad's buried services so hard to piece together?

The main problem is not the ground but the records. Services in the city belong to many owners, and each keeps its own drawings, in its own format and with its own gaps:

  • water supply, sewerage and storm drainage under the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation;
  • power cables of Torrent Power, the electricity licensee for the city;
  • city gas distribution pipes and service connections;
  • ducts and cables of several telecom operators;
  • private lines inside estates such as Naroda, Vatva and Odhav.

Add a walled old city where services were added over generations, the Sabarmati riverfront built on new ground, and metro works that shifted utilities, and no single owner's drawing tells the full story. A field map brings all of them onto one record. Mezux Touch is not affiliated with Torrent Power or any other DISCOM; we map on behalf of the client who places the order.

Do you offer subsurface utility engineering in Ahmedabad?

Subsurface utility engineering (SUE) is a structured way of collecting and grading utility information so designers know how much to trust each line. Our work fits within it as follows:

  1. Records review – drawings from service owners, where the client can obtain them, are used to plan where to look hardest.
  2. Designating – GPR and EM locating find and mark the horizontal position of services, with approximate depth.
  3. Locating – trial pits or boreholes, on request, expose a service at chosen points to confirm its depth and type.

For subsurface utility engineering in Ahmedabad, the report states the basis of each line – detected by radar, traced by EM, or confirmed by a pit – so the designer can apply the right level of caution. The quality-level idea is explained in our article on SUE quality levels.

When are 3D utility mapping services in Ahmedabad worth ordering?

Most corridors are mapped well with 2D radar lines. 3D or high-resolution radar, which collects data on a dense grid and builds a block of the ground, earns its extra effort in a few places:

  • complex junctions where many services cross at different angles;
  • plots and campuses before foundations, where the layout of services matters more than any one line;
  • smart city underground mapping in Ahmedabad around redeveloped streets and public spaces, where new and old services overlap;
  • sites where a 2D survey found something that needs a closer look.

We advise on whether 3D is justified for your area before quoting. Our 3D versus 2D GPR comparison lays out the difference, and city-scale work is described on our smart city underground mapping page.

Which CAD and GIS outputs can you supply?

Clients often search for a GIS utility mapping agency in Ahmedabad when what they need first is a reliable field survey. We are a survey company first: the ground marks and signed report come with every job. Our underground utility CAD drawing services in Ahmedabad, and GIS layers, are built from that field data on request – services on separate layers, with type and approximate depth as attributes. Drawing sets are always quoted separately from the metre rate. Send us your client's CAD standard or GIS template so the quote reflects it; details are on our CAD/GIS utility mapping page.

What does utility mapping in Ahmedabad cost?

Mapping is billed on the length of radar lines run, at ₹24 per metre, or ₹32 per metre where a depth profile along the alignment is needed. An order under 4 km is billed as 4 km, and with Ahmedabad outside Delhi NCR, a single project never comes to less than ₹1,00,000. GST is extra.

Mapping jobBasisBefore GST
Plot scan needing 3 km of grid linesBilled as 4 km, raised to project floor₹1,00,000
Junction redesign, 5 km of lines5,000 m × ₹24₹1,20,000
Road widening corridor, 25 km of lines25,000 m × ₹24₹6,00,000
City corridor package, 110 km of lines110,000 m × ₹24, minus 25%₹19,80,000

Every metre in the order is discounted once the total passes 100 km (25%), 500 km (40%) or 1,000 km (50%). CAD/GIS drawing sets, mobilisation, night work and traffic or permission arrangements are added as separate items. See the rate card for all slabs.

STEP 1

Collect owner records

Gather whatever drawings the client holds from the corporation, power, gas and telecom owners, even if they are partial.

STEP 2

Set the mapping area

We agree the corridor width or site boundary and plan a grid of radar lines that covers all of it.

STEP 3

Scan and trace

GPR passes across the full width are combined with EM tracing of conductive lines, recalibrating whenever the ground changes.

STEP 4

Sort by service

Each detected line is assigned to power, water, sewer, gas or telecom where the evidence supports it, otherwise marked unknown.

STEP 5

Report, then drawings

The signed report comes first; CAD or GIS drawing sets follow if ordered, quoted separately to your client's format.

FAQ

Questions about underground utility mapping in Ahmedabad

Can you map services under a building plot before construction?

Yes. On a plot we scan in a grid rather than along one line, locating cables, water and drainage lines, old borewells' pipework and other services before foundations or piling. Billing follows the length of grid lines needed, with the 4 km and ₹1,00,000 project minimums applying.

Will unknown services be shown on the map?

Yes. Anything detected that cannot be assigned to a service type is recorded as unknown, with its position and approximate depth. That is often the most useful part of the map, because unknown lines are the ones nobody else will warn you about.

Can the map be updated later when the design changes?

If the new area overlaps ground we have already scanned, the existing findings remain valid for that part. Only the new or extended area needs fresh survey, billed at the same rate. Drawing updates, if ordered, are quoted separately.

Do you map storm drains and culverts as well as pipes?

Yes. Drains, culverts and chambers are recorded along with pipes and cables. Large drains usually show clearly on radar, and visible chamber covers are noted on site, which helps link the buried line to its surface features.

Can mapping be done on roads that stay open to traffic?

Usually, with suitable traffic arrangements, which the client or road owner arranges and which are charged separately from the survey. On busy roads, part of the work may be done at night, also priced as a separate item.

How do you handle areas where radar cannot see clearly?

They are recorded, not hidden. The report marks zones where ground conditions, surface clutter or access limited the scan, and states the depth reached elsewhere. Where a zone matters to the design, trial pits can be added on request.
