HT/LT Cable Route Survey — Surat, Gujarat
HT/LT Cable Route GPR Survey in Surat
Before an 11 kV feeder or LT distribution cable goes into a Surat road, our radar and EM crews trace the cables, pipes and ducts that already occupy its path and each crossing on it.

An electric cable route GPR survey in Surat scans the planned path of a new HT or LT cable and records the cables, water and sewer pipes, gas lines and fibre ducts already in it before trenching or boring. Our rate is ₹24 per metre (₹32 with depth profile), 4 km minimum, ₹1,00,000 project floor, GST extra.

What is checked in an electric cable route GPR survey in Surat?
A new feeder is designed on paper first, but the trench has to go into ground that already carries other people's assets. An electric cable route GPR survey in Surat walks that planned alignment with ground penetrating radar and an electromagnetic locator, and records every buried service that sits along it or crosses it.
For a typical HT or LT cabling job we look for:
- existing 11 kV and LT cables, street-light circuits and earthing conductors;
- drinking-water mains and service pipes, plastic as well as metal;
- storm-water drains, sewers and chambers;
- gas distribution pipes;
- copper telecom cables and OFC ducts belonging to several operators.
We paint or peg each find at ground level, write its approximate depth beside it, and list it in a signed report. Read our service overview for HT/LT cable route surveys for the general method, and the physics of picking up a cable is explained in how GPR traces HT and LT cables.
Where do power cable routes in Surat get crowded?
Surat's cabling problems are mostly about congestion and crossings, not distance. A few situations come up again and again:
- Textile market belts along Ring Road. Large market buildings draw heavy LT loads, so the footpaths and service lanes around them often hold several generations of distribution cable side by side.
- Diamond-unit neighbourhoods such as Varachha and Katargam. Dense small workshops mean many LT service cables leaving the same pole or pillar, which makes the shallow layer busy.
- Bridges and approaches over the Tapi. A cable that changes banks has to be routed along or under a bridge approach, where water mains and telecom ducts compete for the same narrow strip.
- Metro construction streets. Where Surat Metro work is under way, many services have been diverted, and old records rarely show the new positions.
- Hazira side. Feeders running west towards the Hazira industrial area and port pass long road stretches with large industrial pipelines and heavy-duty cables near the carriageway.

Torrent Power area or DGVCL area – does it change the survey?
Within its Surat city licence area the power licensee is Torrent Power; elsewhere DGVCL – whose head office is also in Surat – serves south Gujarat. A feeder that starts within the city and ends in a peri-urban village can therefore cross from one licensee's area into the other's.
The radar work is identical on both sides of that line. What changes is paperwork: whose cable records you request beforehand, and whose consent is needed before work goes near their equipment. We hold no affiliation with either licensee, or with any other DISCOM; the survey is ordered and paid for by EPC contractors, consultants or private owners.
How is underground electrical line tracing in Surat done on a live network?
Underground electrical line tracing in Surat combines two tools, because neither one is complete on its own.
- EM locating detects the magnetic field around a metal conductor – passively when it carries load, or actively when a signal can be connected to it at a pillar, pole or end point. It is quick for following a cable along its length.
- GPR transmits short radar bursts downward and logs echoes from anything whose electrical properties differ from the soil around it. It sees non-metallic pipes and ducts that EM cannot, and gives an estimate of depth.
We never cut, open or connect to a utility's live equipment without that owner's permit; signal connection is done only where the client has arranged it. Depth reach depends on soil and moisture – waterlogged or saline ground near the river shortens it – and the report states what radar achieved on each stretch. Radar depth is an estimate; if a single depth is decisive for the design, we can open a trial pit there on request.
Which crossings on a Surat HT route need closer scanning?
Straight runs are scanned with continuous lines along the route and cross-lines at intervals. Crossings get a tighter grid:
- Western Railway line. The Mumbai–Ahmedabad line runs through Surat, and rail crossings are usually planned as HDD bores, so both pit areas and the bore path are scanned where access is given.
- NH 48 and other main roads. Junctions concentrate services from several owners, so every arm is covered.
- Drains, creeks and nalas. We record culverts and visible drain inverts, which lets the designer decide whether to go over or under.
- Substation exits. The first few hundred metres out of a substation usually hold the densest bunch of existing feeders.
Bore planning at such points is discussed in our note on HDD crossing surveys for Gujarat roads and canals. Railway or road-owner permissions, traffic management and any night working are arranged by the client and billed outside the survey rate.
What does an HT/LT cable route survey in Surat cost?
We price the work on route length. The standard rate is ₹24 per metre; adding the depth profile of detected services makes it ₹32 per metre. Short orders are billed as 4 km. Surat being outside Delhi NCR, a ₹1,00,000 floor per project also applies, and GST sits on top.
| Cable route | Survey type | Value before GST |
|---|---|---|
| 2.5 km LT ring in a market area | Standard | ₹1,00,000 – billed as 4 km (₹96,000), then lifted to the floor |
| 7 km 11 kV feeder | Standard | ₹1,68,000 |
| 7 km 11 kV feeder | With depth profile | ₹2,24,000 |
| 130 km cabling package | Standard, 25% off | ₹23,40,000 |
Big packages get a whole-order cut applied to every metre: a quarter off beyond 100 km, 40% beyond 500 km, and half beyond 1,000 km. Crew travel from Faridabad, night working, traffic control or permissions, and any CAD/GIS drawing set are priced outside the metre rate. The complete rate card and slabs sit on a separate page.
Can other work be added to the same cable survey?
Yes, on request and priced separately: cable fault locating on an existing line (a different task from route survey), trial pits or boreholes where one depth must be proved, and CAD/GIS drawing sets for the client's records. If the work order calls for a depth profile along the whole route, our L-section GPR survey in Surat page explains that option.

Questions about HT/LT cable route survey in Surat
Can the survey tell an existing HT cable from an LT cable?
Radar on its own cannot be sure, because the two give much the same echo. Clues help: HT cables are usually laid deeper and run between substations and ring main units, while LT cables branch to pillars and buildings. Where the owner's records or an EM signal connection confirm identity, we note it; otherwise the report lists the find as a cable of unconfirmed voltage.
Do you survey cable routes inside Hazira industrial plots?
We can, when the plot owner gives access and safety clearance. Inside a plant the scan follows the same method, but site rules on permits, escorts and working hours apply, and those can slow progress. The road stretches outside the plant boundary are usually surveyed under a separate access arrangement.
Should a cable route survey be repeated after metro diversions?
If services on your alignment were shifted after the first survey, yes. Diversion work moves cables and pipes into new positions, and a report made before those changes no longer reflects the ground. We can rescan only the affected stretch, priced by its length within the normal minimums.
Can you scan footpaths where the LT cable will run?
Yes. Footpaths and service lanes are scanned with a smaller radar cart or handheld locator where a full cart will not fit. Encroachments, parked two-wheelers and shop steps can block parts of them, and any stretch we cannot reach is shown as a gap in the report.
Does a power cable mapping company in Surat need a permit to scan?
Radar scanning does not dig, but working on a public road still needs whatever permission the road owner requires, plus traffic arrangements on busy roads. The project owner or contractor normally obtains these. Arranging permissions and traffic management is charged separately from our survey rate.
How soon should trenching start after the survey?
Ideally within a few days to a couple of weeks. Paint marks wear quickly on busy Surat roads, and other agencies may dig in the meantime. The signed report keeps the findings permanently, and re-marking can be booked as a further visit if the trench is delayed.
