OFC & Telecom Route Survey — Surat, Gujarat
OFC & Telecom Route GPR Survey in Surat
Fibre ducts in Surat compete for the same road edges as power cables, water lines and older telecom ducts. We scan the proposed path and each HDD crossing before laying begins.

A telecom cable route survey in Surat uses GPR and EM locating along a proposed OFC path to find existing ducts, cables, pipes and chambers, so the fibre can go where there is space and HDD crossings avoid other services. Mezux Touch bills ₹24 per metre, at least 4 km and ₹1,00,000 per project, with GST added.

What does a telecom cable route survey in Surat cover?
Laying fibre is fast once a route is known to be clear. The slow, costly part is finding out the hard way that it is not. A telecom cable route survey in Surat checks the proposed OFC alignment before the first pit is dug, using ground penetrating radar for non-metallic ducts and pipes and EM locating for metal cables.
On a typical optical fiber route survey in Surat we record:
- ducts and cables already laid by other telecom operators, including empty ducts;
- handholes, manholes and joint chambers visible on the surface, with the services entering them;
- power cables, including street-light circuits, that share the road edge;
- water mains, sewer lines and storm drains;
- gas distribution pipes, where present.
Finds are painted or pegged at the surface and entered in a signed report. The wider method is set out on our OFC route GPR survey service page, and route design tips are in our GPR scanning guide for OFC routing.
Why is it hard to find room for new fibre in Surat?
Surat's business districts – textile markets along Ring Road, diamond-unit clusters, offices and new residential towers – need dense connectivity, and several operators have laid fibre to serve them over the years. Typical difficulties are:
- Crowded footpaths and road shoulders. Older telecom ducts, LT cables and water service lines often sit side by side in a narrow strip.
- Road widening and metro work. Surat Metro construction and road upgrades shift services and leave old drawings out of date.
- Tapi crossings. Fibre that changes banks has to follow a bridge or a crossing alignment shared with other utilities.
- Rail and highway crossings. The Mumbai–Ahmedabad rail line and NH 48 both demand planned crossings.
- Industrial routes towards Hazira. Long links to the Hazira industrial area and port pass large pipelines and heavy cables along the road.
Ground and citywide conditions are described on our main Surat GPR survey page.
How do we check duct feasibility along a Surat road?
A telecom infrastructure survey in Surat is most useful when it answers a practical question: which side of the road, and at what offset, will the duct fit? We work through it in order:
- Scan both edges. Radar lines run along each side of the road, with cross-lines at junctions, property entrances and visible chambers.
- Plot what is there. Existing services are recorded by position and approximate depth.
- Identify the clear corridor. Stretches with enough free width for the new duct are marked; congested stretches are flagged so the designer can switch sides or plan a short bore.
- Mark pits and chambers. Proposed pit and handhole locations are checked so they do not land on top of another service.
The result is a route the laying crew can follow with confidence, and a report that records what the ground held before work began.
Trenchless utility survey in Surat: how are HDD crossings checked?
Fibre crossings under main roads, the railway, drains and busy junctions are usually made by horizontal directional drilling. A trenchless utility survey in Surat for these crossings covers three parts:
- the entry pit area, where the rig sets up and the bore begins;
- the bore path itself, scanned across the road or corridor as far as access allows;
- the exit pit area, where the duct is pulled back.
The findings let the bore designer choose a depth that keeps a safe distance from existing services. As HDD route survey services in Surat go, ours is backed by drilling knowledge: the company also owns 18 HDD rigs, and our HDD route survey page explains the survey side in detail. Permissions to work on railway land or national highways are obtained by the project owner and charged outside our rate.
When should an OFC route get a depth profile?
For open-trench laying on clear stretches, plan positions and marks are often enough. Where a route has many HDD crossings, or the work order asks for depth evidence, a depth profile along the alignment helps. That option is priced at ₹32 per metre; see our Surat L-section survey page.
What does an OFC route survey in Surat cost?
Fibre routes are priced by the metre surveyed: ₹24 for the standard survey. An order shorter than 4 km is invoiced as 4 km, and every project outside Delhi NCR – Surat included – carries a ₹1,00,000 lower limit. GST is extra.
| Fibre route | Basis | Before GST |
|---|---|---|
| 3.5 km city link | 4 km = ₹96,000, so project floor applies | ₹1,00,000 |
| 25 km metro-area ring | 25 km × ₹24,000 | ₹6,00,000 |
| 110 km intercity route | ₹26,40,000 less 25% | ₹19,80,000 |
| 640 km regional rollout | ₹1,53,60,000 less 40% | ₹92,16,000 |
The slab discount applies to the entire order once its total passes a threshold – 25% after 100 km, 40% after 500 km, 50% after 1,000 km – which is why 110 km ends up cheaper than exactly 100 km. Crew mobilisation, night working, traffic management or permits, and any CAD/GIS set are quoted on top every time. All rates are on our price list.
Do power networks affect a Surat fibre route?
Very often, because OFC ducts and distribution cables share the same road edges. Inside the city the power licensee is Torrent Power; DGVCL covers the rest of south Gujarat. Their cables are recorded like any other service. We have no link of any kind – affiliation, empanelment or tie-up – with those two licensees, other DISCOMs or telecom operators; our duty is to the client who orders the survey.

Questions about OFC route survey in Surat
Can GPR detect an empty plastic duct?
Usually, yes. An empty HDPE duct holds air, which contrasts strongly with the soil and gives a clear radar reflection. Small ducts that are deep, or in very wet ground, are harder to detect. EM cannot find an empty plastic duct unless a tracer wire or metal cable is inside it.
Do you survey micro-trenching routes as well?
Yes. Micro-trenching works very close to the surface, so shallow services such as street-light cables, house water connections and older shallow ducts matter most. We scan the strip along the planned cut and mark anything found in the upper layer, flagging spots where the trench would strike.
Can you tell which operator owns a duct we find?
Radar cannot read ownership. Sometimes a visible chamber cover, marker post or owner record identifies the operator, and we note that. Otherwise the duct is reported as an existing telecom duct of unknown ownership, so you can check with operators before working close to it.
Is an OFC route survey useful for FTTH work inside societies?
It is, especially in older residential societies where water, drainage and electrical lines are not recorded. Scanning the paths and driveways where the drop ducts will run avoids damaging private services. Access is arranged through the society, and the length scanned is billed at the normal metre rate and minimums.
Do you also lay the duct after surveying?
Our survey service is separate from laying. Mezux Touch also owns 18 HDD rigs, and trenchless work can be discussed as its own scope. Many clients order only the survey and use their own laying contractor, which works fine with our report and ground marks.
How do you handle roads where the metro is being built?
Where metro work is in progress, we scan only areas the client has permission to enter and that are safe to work on. Barricaded zones are left out and shown as gaps. Because diversions keep changing such roads, we recommend surveying close to the laying date.
