Quick answer

Underground utility mapping in Mumbai records every detectable buried service across a site or corridor – power, water, sewer, drainage, gas and telecom – using GPR and EM locating, with positions, approximate depths and confidence in a signed report. Mezux Touch bills ₹24 per metre of scan line, minimum 4 km and ₹1,00,000 per project, plus GST.

Rates and page checked:

Ground penetrating radar cart being pushed across a paved surface
Area mapping uses a grid of radar lines rather than a single route pass.
Separate map layers for power cables, water pipes, drains and telecom ducts
Each utility type is kept on its own layer so owners can read their part.
Radargram image showing hyperbolic reflections from buried pipes and cables
Raw radar sections are reviewed before any line is drawn on the record.
Printed survey report with tables, a site plan and signature block
The signed report states which areas were covered and how reliable each find is.

What is underground utility mapping in Mumbai, and how is it more than clearing a route?

A route survey answers one narrow question: can a new cable or duct pass along this line safely? Underground utility mapping in Mumbai answers a wider one – what lies under this whole site or corridor, and how sure are we of each item? The scan covers the area on a grid of lines, and every service we detect is recorded, whether or not it affects a particular job.

Owners and designers order a utility map when several works are coming to the same ground over time, when a site is being redeveloped, or when existing records are so patchy that nobody trusts them. The map becomes the starting point for design, so clashes are solved before excavation instead of during it. Our approach to mapping in general is described on the utility mapping service page.

Which Mumbai sites usually need a full utility map?

  • Redevelopment plots. Old buildings being replaced often have service connections, drains and abandoned cables that appear on no drawing.
  • Campuses and hospitals. Internal power, water and data networks have grown piece by piece over decades.
  • Station approaches and transport hubs. Services from several owners converge where roads, footpaths and transit land meet.
  • Metro-adjacent streets. Diversions made for Mumbai Metro lines mean older records no longer match the ground.
  • Long road corridors. Utility corridor mapping in Mumbai suits road widening or reconstruction, where every owner's services must be known before design.

Requests described as smart city underground mapping in Mumbai usually mean a base record for a ward, street network or district rather than a single project. Those are scoped area by area, with programme and mobilisation agreed with the client. For the city's survey work as a whole, see the GPR survey in Mumbai page.

How does subsurface utility engineering in Mumbai grade each line?

A good map does not pretend every line is equally certain. Under the subsurface utility engineering approach, each service is graded by how its information was obtained:

Quality levelHow the information was obtained
QL-DFrom existing records or verbal information only
QL-CRecords matched to visible surface features such as chambers, valves and pillars
QL-BDetected in the field by GPR or EM locating and positioned on the record
QL-AExposed physically, for example in a trial pit, with position and depth measured

Most of a Mumbai map sits at QL-B, with QL-A added at the few points where design needs certainty. Records from BMC, the electricity licensees – BEST, Adani Electricity, Tata Power or MSEDCL – and telecom operators help reach QL-C, but we never upgrade a record line without field evidence. Mezux Touch is not affiliated with any of these bodies. Our SUE survey page explains the grading in more detail.

When are 3D utility mapping services in Mumbai worth ordering?

Standard mapping uses 2D radar lines spaced across the site. A 3D or high-resolution grid uses much closer lines, building a block of data that can be sliced at different depths. It is slower and costs more, so we suggest it only where it earns its place:

  • crowded junctions where many services cross at different angles;
  • small plots before foundations, where a missed service is costly;
  • spots where 2D lines leave a pattern that cannot be read with confidence.

On reclaimed ground, a dense grid also helps separate a continuous pipe from scattered rubble in the fill. Our article comparing 3D GPR with 2D line survey covers the trade-offs.

Do you provide underground utility CAD drawing services in Mumbai?

Yes, as a separately quoted item. The standard output of every mapping job is ground marking where the site allows and a signed report listing each service with its position, approximate depth, detection method and quality level. When the client needs drawings, we can prepare CAD sets and GIS layers of the mapped services, with each utility type kept separate. As a GIS utility mapping agency in Mumbai, we agree the layer list and format with you at enquiry stage, so the price reflects the actual drawing scope. Details are on our CAD/GIS utility mapping page.

How is a Mumbai utility mapping job priced?

For a Mumbai mapping job we add up every scan line the area needs and bill that total at ₹24 a metre – the ordinary GPR rate – switching to ₹32 a metre on any corridor that needs an L-section depth profile. Mumbai maps carry a 4 km floor on billed line length, and, the city sitting outside Delhi NCR, the project floor stands at ₹1,00,000. GST goes on top.

Mapping exampleBasisBefore GST
Redevelopment plot, 1.8 km of scan linesStandard₹1,00,000 (4 km minimum = ₹96,000, raised to the project floor)
Hospital campus, 6.5 km of scan linesStandard₹1,56,000
30 km road corridorStandard₹7,20,000
30 km road corridorL-section₹9,60,000

Large programmes above 100 km, 500 km or 1,000 km get 25%, 40% or 50% off every metre. Mobilisation from Faridabad, night working, traffic arrangements and permissions, and CAD/GIS drawing sets are quoted separately. See the GPR survey price list for the full slabs, and the utility corridor mapping page for long-road work.

STEP 1

Fix the boundary

Send a site plan or corridor KML with the boundary marked, plus any areas where access is restricted or escorted.

STEP 2

Gather existing records

Whatever drawings the owners or earlier contractors left are collected, so each later line can be graded against them.

STEP 3

Scan on a grid

Radar lines cover the area in both directions, with EM tracing from chambers, pillars and valves wherever access exists.

STEP 4

Sort by utility

Detected services are grouped by type – power, water, sewer, drainage, gas, telecom – and each is given a quality level.

STEP 5

Issue the record

The signed report lists coverage, depth reach and gaps; CAD or GIS drawing sets follow if they were ordered.

Get Underground Utility Mapping in Mumbai at Best Prices

Pay by scan-line metre

Mapping is billed at ₹24 per metre of radar line, so a campus needing 6.5 km of lines costs ₹1,56,000 before GST.

3D only where it helps

We suggest dense 3D grids only at crowded junctions or sensitive plots, keeping the rest of the site on standard lines.

Trial pits at chosen points

Physical exposure is added only where a design decision needs a measured depth, instead of digging across the whole site.

Discounts for large programmes

Ward or network-wide mapping above 100 km is billed 25% lower on every metre, with deeper cuts past 500 km and 1,000 km.

Own fleet, own crews

Our 58 GPR systems and survey crews are in-house, so the price has no hire charge or sub-letting margin built in.

Drawing scope priced separately

CAD and GIS sets are quoted to the layers you actually need, so you do not pay for drawings nobody will use.

FAQ

Questions about underground utility mapping in Mumbai

Can you map a housing society compound in Mumbai?

Yes. Society compounds are mapped on a grid covering driveways, open areas and the strip along the building lines, where water, drainage and power connections usually run. The 4 km minimum and ₹1,00,000 project floor apply, so combining several compounds or adjacent plots into one order usually gives better value.

Does a utility map show depths of every service?

It shows approximate depths wherever radar or EM locating could measure them, and states where depth could not be resolved. Depth reach depends on soil, fill and moisture, and saline or wet ground in Mumbai often reduces it. Trial pits give measured depths at points where design needs certainty.

Can the map be updated after later works?

Yes. Once a base record exists, areas disturbed by later works can be rescanned and the record updated for just those areas. That is usually quicker than mapping from scratch. A rescan is priced on its own scan-line length at the standard metre rate and minimums.

Can a site stay in use while it is being mapped?

Usually, yes. Hospitals, campuses and yards rarely close for a survey, so we split the site into zones and scan each when it is quietest, sometimes at night. Vehicles and stored material must be moved off each zone while it is scanned. Night working is priced separately.

Who receives the utility map and its data?

The client who orders the survey receives the report and any drawings, and decides who else may use them. We keep the original data on file so it can be reissued if needed. We do not pass findings to BMC, any licensee or other owners unless the client asks us to.

How long does field mapping take on a Mumbai site?

It depends on area, how crowded the ground is and the working hours allowed. A small plot may take a short visit, while a corridor or campus needs a planned programme. We send that programme with the quote, and the start date is fixed once access and permissions are confirmed.
