Quick answer

Underground utility mapping in Kolkata locates the buried power cables, water and sewer lines and telecom ducts across a whole site or street block, not just one route. Mezux Touch scans on a grid with owned radar and EM at ₹24 per metre of scan line, with a 4 km and ₹1,00,000 minimum and GST extra.

Rates and page checked:

Stacked map layers separating power, water, drainage and telecom lines
Each kind of service on a Kolkata site is held on its own layer.
Survey team in safety vests standing beside radar carts
The same in-house team scans the site, sorts the finds and signs the record.
Coloured paint lines on a paved surface marking buried services
Site marks guide excavation while the written record keeps the findings permanently.
Technical drawing of a site plan with buried utility lines annotated
CAD drawings can be added to a mapping order as a separately quoted item.

How does underground utility mapping in Kolkata differ from a route survey?

A route survey answers a narrow question: what lies along one planned alignment. Underground utility mapping in Kolkata asks a wider one: what lies under this whole area? Instead of running lines along a single trench, the crew scans a grid across the site so that services running in any direction are picked up.

The result is a record of the area rather than a strip, which suits owners and designers who need to plan several works on the same ground. Typical outputs are:

  • ground marks over each detected service, in its utility colour;
  • approximate depths at measured points;
  • a signed report listing every find by service type, with coverage and limits;
  • where ordered, drawing sets in CAD or GIS, quoted separately.

The general method is on our underground utility mapping service page.

Which Kolkata sites usually call for a full utility map?

Mapping is most useful where many services share a confined area and several future works are planned. In Kolkata, enquiries tend to come from:

  • Institutional campuses such as hospitals, colleges and office parks, before new blocks, connections or landscaping;
  • Industrial premises and depots, where cables, process pipes and drains cross the yard in every direction;
  • Street blocks before redevelopment, where the designer needs to know which lines must be protected or diverted;
  • Sites close to Kolkata Metro structures, scanned only where the owner of the structure has allowed access;
  • Plots near the Hooghly, where wet, made-up ground needs depth reach recorded area by area.

If your job is a single cable or fibre line rather than an area, the route pages linked from our Kolkata GPR survey page fit better.

How are different owners' services kept apart on a Kolkata map?

Under a single Kolkata street there may be power cables of CESC Ltd, or of WBSEDCL in the surrounding areas, municipal water and drainage lines, and ducts from several telecom operators. A useful map keeps them apart rather than drawing one tangle of lines.

We sort finds into groups:

  1. Power – HT and LT cables, street-light supply and earthing, mostly confirmed by EM;
  2. Water and drainage – mains, service pipes, sewers and storm drains;
  3. Telecom – copper cables and fibre ducts;
  4. Unidentified – lines we detected but could not assign to a service type with confidence.

The unidentified group matters. A line wrongly labelled is more dangerous than one honestly marked unknown. Mezux Touch is not affiliated with CESC Ltd, WBSEDCL, Kolkata Municipal Corporation or any development authority, and service ownership in our record is never assumed from a utility's name.

Subsurface utility engineering in Kolkata: how is reliability shown?

Subsurface utility engineering in Kolkata, as with SUE anywhere, is about showing not just where a service is but how sure the survey is about it. Our record grades each find by how it was established: seen on radar only, confirmed by EM, matched to a visible surface feature, or proved by a trial pit or borehole.

Kolkata's soft clay and high water table limit radar depth, so the record also states the depth actually reached in each part of the site. Deep or small services may fall below that reach, and the report says so plainly. For the formal grading system used on many projects, see our explainer on SUE quality levels, and for the service itself, our SUE survey page.

When are 3D utility mapping services in Kolkata worth ordering?

Most sites are well served by 2D radar lines on a grid. A 3D or high-resolution scan becomes worthwhile where services are very dense or turn and cross each other within a small area, such as a crowded junction, a utility chamber cluster or a plant room approach. In those places, 3D utility mapping services in Kolkata give a clearer picture of how lines sit relative to each other. We suggest it only for the parts of a site that need it, and the wet ground still limits how deep any scan can see.

What does a GIS utility mapping agency in Kolkata deliver, and what is extra?

Every mapping order includes the radar and EM survey, site marking and a signed report. Clients who need the result in a digital system, whether as GIS utility mapping layers or as underground utility CAD drawings for Kolkata, can add a drawing set. That drawing set is a separate, quoted item, not part of the per-metre rate. Tell us the layer structure, file format and coordinate system you work in, and the drawings are prepared to it. Our CAD and GIS utility mapping page explains the options. Utility corridor mapping in Kolkata, along a long road rather than a site, follows the same approach, and so does smart city underground mapping in Kolkata where a city-level digital record is the goal.

How is a Kolkata utility mapping job priced?

Site mapping uses the same card as route work: ₹24 per metre of radar scan line, or ₹32 per metre where an L-section is needed along a corridor. The length billed is the total of the grid lines needed to cover your area. Outside Delhi NCR, Kolkata orders carry a 4 km minimum length and a ₹1,00,000 minimum value. GST is extra.

Kolkata jobScan lengthBefore GST
Small hospital campus2.5 km of grid lines₹1,00,000 (4 km = ₹96,000, raised to the floor)
Industrial yard9 km of grid lines₹2,16,000
Road corridor with L-section30 km₹9,60,000

Orders past 100 km get 25% off every metre, past 500 km 40%, and past 1,000 km 50%. Mobilisation from Faridabad, night working, traffic or permit arrangements and CAD/GIS drawing sets are quoted separately. The price list has the full slab table.

STEP 1

Agree the site boundary

Send a site plan or marked satellite image showing the area to map, access points and any no-entry zones.

STEP 2

Collect existing records

Old drawings, even incomplete ones, show where to look harder and which finds may already have a known owner.

STEP 3

Scan the full grid

Radar lines cross the area in two directions, and EM locating confirms the conductive services among the finds.

STEP 4

Sort and grade finds

Each detected line is placed in a service group and graded by how it was confirmed, including unknowns.

STEP 5

Issue marks and record

Services are marked on site and listed in a signed report, with drawing sets added if they were ordered.

Billed on scan lines

You pay ₹24 for each metre of grid line actually scanned, so a 9 km yard grid costs ₹2,16,000 before GST.

Drawings only if wanted

CAD or GIS sets are optional and quoted apart, so a client who only needs marks and a report pays for neither.

3D only where dense

High-resolution scanning is proposed for the crowded parts of a site, keeping the rest on ordinary 2D grid lines.

Combine sites in one order

Several Kolkata campuses or yards mapped together share a single mobilisation and add up their lengths towards a slab.

Large programmes cost less

Across a whole order, rates fall by a quarter once 100 km is crossed, by 40% after 500 km and by half after 1,000 km.

Separate items shown early

Mobilisation, night working, traffic or permit arrangements and drawing sets are set out as separate lines when we quote.

FAQ

Questions about underground utility mapping in Kolkata

How is the scan length worked out for a site?

We lay a grid over the area in two directions at a spacing suited to how crowded the ground is likely to be, then add up the length of all lines. That total, in metres, is what is billed. The proposed grid and its length are shown in the quote before work is booked.

Can you map a site that is still in use?

Yes. Hospitals, offices and factories can stay open while we scan, as the carts are quiet and work at walking pace. We agree working hours, access to restricted areas and safety rules with the site owner beforehand. Areas we could not enter are shown clearly in the report.

Can the map show which company owns each cable?

Only where there is evidence, such as markings on covers or a confirmed connection. Radar sees a cable as a target, not by owner. Lines without such evidence are grouped by service type, or as unidentified, and the report says that ownership has not been confirmed.

Do you map inside buildings or basements?

Our mapping covers ground outside buildings, such as yards, roads, lawns and paved areas, where services are buried in soil. Scanning of floors or structural elements is not part of this mapping service. If you need a site record, we map the open ground around and between buildings.

How long does a mapping record stay valid?

It reflects the ground at the time of the survey. Any digging, new connection or repair afterwards can change what is there. For a site with ongoing works, a fresh scan of changed areas before each major job is advisable. It can be ordered at the same metre rate.

Can you add trial pits to confirm key services?

Yes, on request. Where a service depth or type matters to the design, we can open trial pits or drill boreholes at selected points after the scan. These are quoted separately and move the finds at those points to a confirmed grade in the record.
