OFC & Telecom Route Survey — Kolkata, West Bengal
OFC & Telecom Route GPR Survey in Kolkata
New fibre in Kolkata has to squeeze past power cables, water lines, sewers and older telecom ducts. We scan the planned duct line and every HDD shot with owned radar before your crew digs or drills.

A telecom cable route survey in Kolkata scans the planned fibre duct line and each HDD crossing for existing cables, pipes and ducts, so the route can be fixed before boring. Mezux Touch charges ₹24 per metre for this, ₹32 if an L-section is wanted, with at least 4 km and ₹1,00,000 per project billed, GST extra.

Why do fibre builders order a telecom cable route survey in Kolkata?
Fibre is usually the last service to arrive under a road, so it inherits whatever space the older networks have left. A telecom cable route survey in Kolkata answers a practical question for the build team: along this alignment, where is there a clear path for the duct, and where will it run into something?
The survey gives you three things:
- positions and approximate depths of existing power cables, water mains, sewers and other operators' ducts along the route;
- a clear view of the crowded stretches, so the duct can move to the other side of the road or to a different offset before work starts;
- a scanned bore path for every planned HDD crossing.
Because a fibre cut on a live network is costly for every operator sharing that road, avoiding strikes is usually the main reason the survey is in the work order. The method is described on our OFC route GPR survey page.
Where does new fibre struggle for space under Kolkata roads?
Older parts of the city have footpaths that already carry CESC Ltd power cables, water and sewer lines, and earlier generations of copper and fibre. On the city's outskirts, where WBSEDCL supplies power, roads are often wider but newer services may be laid without full records. Either way, the free corridor for a fresh duct can be narrow.
Some situations need particular care:
- Corridors close to Kolkata Metro. Ground near Metro structures is controlled by its owner, so scanning happens only where permission is in place.
- Approaches to the Hooghly. Land near the river is wetter and sometimes filled, which affects both radar reach and the choice of method for crossing.
- Busy junctions. Several networks meet and cross here, so a junction often decides whether a whole route is workable.
Mezux Touch is not affiliated with CESC Ltd, WBSEDCL, Kolkata Municipal Corporation, any telecom operator or any development authority.
How is duct feasibility judged along a Kolkata road?
Feasibility comes down to whether a duct of the required size can be placed at the planned depth without crossing or hugging another service for long distances. We scan along the proposed offset and add cross-lines so services running across the route are not missed.
For each stretch, the report gives:
- the services found and their approximate depths;
- where the planned offset looks clear;
- where the duct would clash with an existing line, and whether the other side of the road looked less crowded where we scanned it;
- sections where access, parked vehicles or ground conditions limited the scan.
That lets the route designer move the alignment on paper, which costs nothing, instead of on site, which costs time and money. For an introduction to the planning side, see our GPR scanning guide for OFC routing.
Trenchless utility survey in Kolkata: what is scanned for each HDD shot?
Where a fibre route crosses a main road, a drain or any stretch that cannot be opened, the duct usually goes in by horizontal directional drilling. A trenchless utility survey in Kolkata for that crossing covers:
- the full bore path between the entry and exit points;
- the entry and exit pit areas, as far as access allows;
- a margin either side of the path, because a drill head can drift from its planned line.
Soft clay and a high water table shape how a bore behaves here and also hold back radar depth, so we state on each crossing how deep the scan actually reached. If a crossing needs proof of a service depth, trial pits or boreholes can be added at specific points on request. We also run 18 HDD rigs of our own; how a scanned bore path is used is explained on our HDD route survey page.
What does an optical fiber route survey in Kolkata cost?
Fibre routes are priced at the same per-metre rates as any other survey on our card. An optical fiber route survey in Kolkata is ₹24 a metre as standard and ₹32 a metre where an L-section depth profile is required. Since Kolkata falls outside Delhi NCR, two floors apply to every order: 4 km of length and ₹1,00,000 of value. GST comes on top.
| Fibre job | Survey type | Before GST |
|---|---|---|
| 1.5 km building link | Standard | ₹1,00,000 (4 km at ₹96,000, raised to the project floor) |
| 12 km city ring segment | Standard | ₹2,88,000 |
| 12 km city ring segment | L-section | ₹3,84,000 |
| 600 km multi-city fibre programme | Standard, 40% slab | ₹86,40,000 |
The slab discount reduces the rate on the whole order: 25% for more than 100 km, 40% for more than 500 km, 50% for more than 1,000 km. None of these amounts covers mobilisation, night shifts, traffic or permit arrangements, or CAD/GIS drawings; each of those is quoted on a line of its own. Each slab is listed on the GPR survey price list.
How do Kolkata city routes fit into longer fibre builds?
Many city stretches are the last mile of a longer intercity or state build. Because the discount slab is decided by the total length of an order, adding your Kolkata stretches to the rest of the programme can bring every metre down a slab. Our Bengaluru–Kolkata OFC corridor page covers the long-haul side, and the Kolkata GPR survey page lists the other survey work we take on in the city. Crews and systems mobilise from Faridabad, and the programme is agreed with you once permissions are clear.

Fibre at the standard rate
Duct routes are billed at ₹24 a metre like any other route, so a 12 km ring segment costs ₹2,88,000 before GST.
L-section only on request
Most fibre jobs need positions, not profiles; choose the ₹32 L-section rate only where the work order asks for it.
Bundle links and rings
Short building links fall under the 4 km and ₹1,00,000 floors alone, but grouped with ring segments they are billed by length.
Long builds earn slabs
Beyond 100 km the full order drops by 25%, beyond 500 km by 40%, beyond 1,000 km by half.
Radar and rigs we own
Our 58 GPR systems and 18 HDD rigs are company property, so no hire cost is passed on to your fibre budget.
Extras priced in advance
Mobilisation from Faridabad, night working, traffic or permit arrangements and drawing sets are each quoted before the crew is booked.

Questions about OFC route survey in Kolkata
Can radar find an existing fibre duct made of plastic?
Often, yes. A plastic duct shows on radar because it differs from the soil around it, especially when it holds cable or air. Small, deep ducts in wet clay are harder to pick out, and the report marks such finds with lower confidence. Tracer wire, where present, can be followed with an EM locator.
Do you survey the route inside an office campus or tech park?
Yes, with the owner's permission. Inside a campus we scan along the planned duct path and often add a grid near buildings, where services crowd together. The same metre rate and minimums apply, and campus stretches can be added to a city route in one order.
Is this a telecom infrastructure survey in Kolkata or just a scan?
It is a utility survey of the ground along your fibre route, not an audit of an operator's network. As a telecom infrastructure survey in Kolkata, it locates services buried under the route, marks them on the ground and records them in a signed report. Duct inspection or network audits are outside this scope.
Can a fibre route be surveyed during the monsoon?
Usually yes, but wet ground cuts radar reach and standing water can block some stretches until it drains. The report records the depth actually achieved on each section. If a route has deep or critical crossings, scanning those in a drier spell gives a clearer picture.
Do you also drill the HDD crossings?
We run 18 HDD rigs of our own, and our HDD services are a separate offer from the survey. Many clients order only the survey and use their own drilling contractor. If you want us to drill as well, ask for both in the same enquiry and we will quote them separately.
Will the report satisfy the road owner's permission process?
That depends on what the road owner asks for, and we are not affiliated with any municipal body. Our signed report shows coverage, findings and limits clearly, and drawing sets can be ordered separately in the format you specify. Check the authority's requirements and tell us before the survey.
