Quick answer

Our electric cable route GPR survey in Mumbai runs ahead of a new HT or LT feeder, finding whatever already shares its line – power cables, water mains, sewers, ducts – so that the Mumbai trench or HDD bore can dodge them. Feeder routes here are priced at ₹24 a metre, or ₹32 for designers who ask for an L-section; billing begins from 4 km and from ₹1,00,000 per project, with GST charged extra.

Rates and page checked:

Survey team in safety vests working with radar equipment on a roadside
Feeder routes are walked and scanned by our own crew, not a hired team.
Technician holding an electromagnetic locator above a buried cable line
EM tracing follows metal power cables and helps separate HT runs from LT.
Electrical substation with outgoing cable trenches and feeder pillars
Substation exits are where incoming and outgoing circuits bunch most tightly.
Long section profile showing depths of buried services along a cable route
An L-section adds service depths along the route at ₹32 per metre.

Why commission an electric cable route GPR survey in Mumbai before cutting the road?

A new HT feeder or LT extension in Mumbai seldom goes into empty ground. The planned line will share space with water mains, sewers, storm drains, telecom ducts and older power cables, many of them shallow and some missing from any record. An electric cable route GPR survey in Mumbai finds those services before the trench is opened or the drill is launched, so the alignment can be shifted on paper instead of repaired on site.

The survey settles three things for the cabling team:

  1. where along the route the ground is clear enough to trench at the planned depth;
  2. which crossings need a deeper bore, a sleeve or a different line;
  3. which stretches need hand digging because services run too close together.

The scope of this work, city by city, is set out on our HT/LT cable route GPR survey service page.

Does it matter which licensee supplies the area?

Mumbai is unusual because power reaches different parts of the city through different companies. BEST supplies the island city, Adani Electricity and Tata Power serve the suburbs, and MSEDCL covers some parts. A long cable route can therefore pass through more than one supply area.

The field method stays the same everywhere. What changes is the record situation: each licensee keeps its own network drawings, and a route crossing a boundary may meet cables from two owners lying side by side. We ask for whatever drawings the client can obtain, but we never treat them as proof; every line on the report comes from what radar and EM tracing actually detected.

Mezux Touch is not affiliated with BEST, Adani Electricity, Tata Power, MSEDCL or BMC. As a power cable mapping company in Mumbai, we work for whoever places the order – usually an EPC contractor, consultant or developer. For a city-wide view of our survey work here, see the GPR survey in Mumbai page.

Where do Mumbai feeder routes get crowded?

  • Substation exits and feeder pillars. Several circuits leave the same yard and fan out within a short distance, often at similar depths.
  • Footpath edges. Power cables, telecom ducts and water service lines compete for the same narrow strip beside the kerb.
  • Metro alignments. Services diverted for Mumbai Metro lines now sit where older records do not show them.
  • Nala and drain crossings. A cable must pass over or under a storm-water channel, and the depth of its bed decides which.
  • Reclaimed ground. Rubble in fill throws back reflections that can look like a cable, so extra cross-lines are run before a find is accepted.

Saline, wet ground on coastal stretches also cuts radar reach, so the report states the depth reached section by section rather than one figure for the route.

How does underground electrical line tracing in Mumbai separate HT from LT?

Two methods work together. An EM locator picks up metal cables, either from the signal a loaded cable already carries or from a signal we put onto it at an accessible point such as a pillar or joint pit. Ground penetrating radar then sweeps the route to catch what EM misses – plastic water pipes, empty ducts and cables that cannot take a signal.

HT and LT runs are told apart by depth band, route, the pillar or substation they connect to, and how they respond to tracing. When those clues disagree, the find is reported as a power cable of unconfirmed voltage rather than labelled by guesswork. Our article on how GPR traces HT and LT cables explains the method in more detail.

What does HT cable route mapping in Mumbai cost?

Billing is by the metre of route surveyed. Standard scanning is ₹24 per metre; an L-section, plotting how deep each detected service lies along the alignment, raises that to ₹32 per metre. Orders shorter than 4 km are billed as 4 km, and with Mumbai being outside Delhi NCR, every project carries a ₹1,00,000 minimum. GST is extra.

Cable route exampleSurveyAmount before GST
2.5 km LT extensionStandard₹1,00,000 (4 km = ₹96,000, lifted to the project minimum)
9 km HT feederStandard₹2,16,000
9 km HT feederL-section₹2,88,000
120 km cabling packageStandard, 25% slab₹21,60,000

When a Mumbai feeder package passes a slab, every metre in it is discounted: a quarter off after 100 km, 40% off once Mumbai feeders exceed 500 km, and half the card rate when the total runs past 1,000 km. Quoted outside the feeder metre rate: Faridabad mobilisation, night-shift work, permits along with traffic arrangements, and CAD/GIS drawings. The GPR survey price list gives each slab in full.

What does the cabling contractor receive?

  • Ground marks along the route in utility colours, with approximate depths written beside each find.
  • A signed report listing every detected service, how it was found, the depth radar reached on each section and the stretches that could not be scanned.
  • An L-section depth profile when the ₹32 per metre option is ordered – see our L-section GPR survey page.
  • Scanned bore paths for planned HDD crossings, as covered on the HDD route survey page.

CAD/GIS drawing sets, trial pits, boreholes and cable fault locating can be added and are priced separately. Crews and systems mobilise from Faridabad; dates are fixed with you once permissions on the route are in place.

STEP 1

Share the feeder alignment

Send the KML or drawing, cable type, planned depth and every substation, pillar and crossing the design already shows.

STEP 2

Collect what records exist

Any licensee or BMC drawings you can obtain help us plan, though every reported line comes from field detection.

STEP 3

Trace, then sweep

EM tracing follows metal cables from pillars and joint pits, then radar sweeps for plastic pipes and empty ducts.

STEP 4

Grid the crossings

Road junctions, nalas and metro-adjacent stretches get a closer scan grid, because services converge where routes cross.

STEP 5

Mark and report

Finds are marked in colour on the ground, then the signed report records depth reach and gaps section by section.

FAQ

Questions about HT/LT cable route survey in Mumbai

Can you trace a cable that is energised?

Yes. A loaded power cable gives off a signal that an EM locator can follow without any connection. Where the signal is weak, we can apply our own signal at a safe access point if the owner permits it. Radar adds position and approximate depth along the same stretch.

Do you need the licensee's network drawings before starting?

They help but are not essential. Drawings tell us where to expect cables and which circuits may be present. The survey itself relies on detection in the field, so a route without records can still be scanned. Mismatches between records and findings are noted in the report.

Is an L-section always needed for a feeder route?

No. Many contractors need only positions and approximate depths, which the standard ₹24 per metre survey gives. An L-section is worth ordering when the work order or the designer asks for a depth profile along the route, typically on HT feeders with several deep crossings.

Can the survey help decide between trenching and HDD?

Yes. The findings show where the trench line is clear at the planned depth and where crossings are too congested for open cutting. Those congested points are often better bored. We scan the bore path and both pit areas so the drilling team knows what to avoid.

Can you work at night on Mumbai arterials?

Yes, night working is common on busy Mumbai roads. It is priced as a separate item outside the metre rate, and the project owner usually arranges the road permissions and traffic conditions. We schedule night stretches in the programme so daytime work continues wherever access allows.

Do you also locate faults on existing cables?

Cable fault locating is a separate service from route survey. It finds the damaged point on a cable already in use, while route survey clears ground for a new one. Both can sit in one order, each priced on its own.
