HT/LT Cable Route Survey — Lucknow

HT/LT Cable Route GPR Survey in Lucknow

Before a new 11 kV feeder or LT distribution cable goes into a Lucknow road, we trace the cables, pipes and ducts already in that strip, so trenching and boring avoid them.

Quick answer

An electric cable route GPR survey in Lucknow scans the strip where a new HT or LT cable will be laid and records every existing cable, pipe and duct in it, with marks on the road and a signed report. The survey is billed at ₹24 a metre (₹32 a metre with an L-section), from 4 km and ₹1,00,000 per project, GST extra.

Rates and page checked:

Operator holding an electromagnetic locator over a buried power cable
EM tracing follows live LT and HT lines that cross a new Lucknow feeder route.
Long-section drawing showing the depth of buried services along a route
An L-section adds the depth of each crossing service along the cable alignment.
Ground penetrating radar cart being pushed along the edge of a road
Radar lines run along the planned trench and across it at regular gaps.
Illustration of a distribution substation with cables leaving underground
Cable exits near substations are crowded and get a closer scan grid.

What does an electric cable route GPR survey in Lucknow tell the cabling team?

A new feeder or distribution cable needs a clear path roughly a metre wide and, at crossings, a clear bore line. An electric cable route GPR survey in Lucknow answers three practical questions before the first trench is opened:

  • What is already in the strip? Older power cables, water mains, sewers, storm drains, telecom ducts and street-light cables, each identified as far as the methods allow.
  • Where does each one sit? Its position against the planned alignment, painted or pegged on the road, with an approximate depth noted beside the mark.
  • Where is the route too crowded? Stretches where the planned cable would clash with existing services, so the designer can shift it before work starts.

The output is ground marking plus a signed report listing every find, the depth radar reached on each stretch and any section we could not get onto. The method in general is explained on our HT/LT cable route GPR survey service page; this page deals only with power cabling in Lucknow.

Which parts of a Lucknow cable route are usually the most congested?

Cable alignments in a large, old city rarely run through empty ground. On Lucknow routes the busy points tend to be the same few kinds of place:

  1. Road edges and footpaths on main roads, where the distribution network, water lines and telecom ducts already share the same narrow verge.
  2. Junctions and roundabouts, where services from several directions converge and change depth.
  3. Near substations and ring main units, where many outgoing cables leave in a tight bunch.
  4. Beside the Lucknow Metro alignment, where utilities were shifted during construction and their present positions may differ from older records.
  5. Approaches to the Gomti, where any cable must eventually cross the river by bridge attachment or by a bore under the channel.

Disused cables are common on long-established roads. They still give radar and sometimes EM responses, so the report keeps live and probable-abandoned lines apart where the evidence allows.

How is underground electrical line tracing in Lucknow done on the ground?

Power cabling work brings one particular risk: striking a live conductor. Our underground electrical line tracing in Lucknow therefore starts with electromagnetic methods before the radar cart moves:

  • Passive EM sweep along the full alignment picks up energised cables from the current already flowing in them.
  • Active tracing applies a signal to a cable at an accessible point – a pillar, pole or cable end – so a particular line can be followed and told apart from its neighbours.
  • GPR lines then run parallel to the planned trench, with cross-lines at regular gaps and at every visible joint pit, pole and chamber. Radar catches the non-conductive services EM cannot sense, such as plastic water pipes, ducts and drains.

Each find is marked in the utility colour for its type, and the report notes which method detected it. We explain the physics in more detail in how GPR traces HT/LT cables.

HT cable route mapping in Lucknow: what happens at river, metro and road crossings?

Crossings are where an HT cable job is most likely to stall, so they are scanned as separate pieces of work within the route. HT cable route mapping in Lucknow treats them as follows:

  • Main road crossings get a closer grid across the full carriageway width, since services gather under junctions.
  • Metro-side stretches are scanned on whatever strip the project owner has permission to use; access to the metro corridor itself is a matter for the metro corporation.
  • Gomti crossings by HDD are scanned along the bore line and over the launch and exit pit areas on both banks. Riverside ground stays wetter, which shortens radar reach, so that depth is written into the report.

When a crossing will be bored, the scanned path feeds directly into the drilling plan described on our HDD route survey page.

Who hires a power cable mapping company in Lucknow?

Most cable route surveys here are booked by EPC and cabling contractors working on distribution packages for the local power utility, MVVNL / LESA. Others come from consultants designing undergrounding or feeder-strengthening schemes, developers bringing a new supply into a housing scheme, and campus owners extending HT supply to a new block.

As a power cable mapping company in Lucknow, Mezux Touch works only for the client who places the order. We are not affiliated with MVVNL, LESA, Lucknow Municipal Corporation or any DISCOM, and we hold no empanelment or approval with any of them. Survey findings are reported to our client.

What does a Lucknow cable route survey cost?

Cable routes are priced per metre of alignment: ₹24 for the standard survey and ₹32 when an L-section is added. Lucknow is outside Delhi NCR, so every order is billed for at least 4 km and every project for at least ₹1,00,000, before GST.

Cable jobSurveyBefore GST
3 km LT extensionStandard₹1,00,000 (4 km is ₹96,000, lifted to the project floor)
6 km 11 kV feederStandard₹1,44,000
6 km 11 kV feederL-section₹1,92,000
120 km distribution packageStandard, 25% slab₹21,60,000

A package longer than 100 km is billed 25% lower on every metre; above 500 km the reduction is 40%, and above 1,000 km it is 50%. Anything outside the scan itself is priced on its own line: the crew's mobilisation from Faridabad, work after dark, traffic control and permits, and any CAD/GIS drawing set. Full slabs are on the GPR survey price list.

Should your Lucknow cable work order specify an L-section?

Only if the work order or the designer asks for one. The standard survey gives positions and approximate depths at the points measured. An L-section GPR survey adds a depth profile of the detected services along the route, which helps when the cable has to dip under or rise over many crossing services. It can be ordered for the whole route or just the stretches that need it, at ₹32 per metre on those stretches. For the wider Lucknow picture, including other survey types, see our GPR survey in Lucknow page.

STEP 1

Share the cable alignment

Send the KML or route drawing for the feeder, its length, the cable voltage and the crossings already shown in the design.

STEP 2

Crew travels from Faridabad

Our crew and owned GPR systems are mobilised for your dates; mobilisation is shown as its own line on the quote.

STEP 3

Trace live lines first

Passive and active EM sweeps pick up energised cables along the alignment before any radar line is run.

STEP 4

Radar along and across

GPR lines cover the trench strip, with denser grids at junctions, substation exits and the Gomti crossing points.

STEP 5

Marks and signed report

Every find is marked on the road in its utility colour, and the report states depth reach and no-access stretches.

FAQ

Questions about cable route survey in Lucknow

Does the survey need a power shutdown on the existing network?

No. GPR and passive EM work over energised cables without touching them. Active tracing connects a signal only at a safe access point, and only with the asset owner's permission. Shutdowns are never needed for scanning itself.

Can you tell an HT cable from an LT cable by radar alone?

Not reliably. Radar shows that a cable-like object is there and roughly how deep, but not its voltage. EM tracing from a known point, depth, cable size and visible clues such as poles or pillars help, and the report states how confident each identification is.

How wide a strip do you scan for a new feeder?

It depends on the trench design and the space available, but we cover the planned trench line with enough margin either side for the designer to shift the route if it clashes. Wider coverage is agreed in advance where the alignment is still flexible.

Can the survey find old cable joints on a Lucknow route?

Joints often show as a local change in the radar response or a bulge in the EM signal, so they can sometimes be picked out. They are not always distinguishable from other small objects, and the report marks them as probable unless confirmed.

Do you also locate faults on existing HT cables?

Yes, cable fault locating is a separate service with its own equipment and is quoted on its own. It is not part of a route survey. Send the cable details, its approximate route and the reported fault symptoms for a quote.

Are trial pits included for confirming cable depth?

Not in the metre rate. Trial pits or boreholes can be added on request at the points where a depth must be proved, for example before an HDD launch near the Gomti, and they are priced as separate items.
