What does a GPR survey company in Puducherry actually locate?
Nobody should cut a road or launch a bore without knowing what already lies beneath. Working as a GPR survey company in Puducherry, we look for anything that could be damaged or could damage your crew, using ground penetrating radar for metal and non-metal objects and electromagnetic locating for conductive lines.
A typical scan picks up:
- power distribution cables, street-light feeds and earthing conductors;
- drinking water mains and house service pipes, including plastic ones;
- sewer lines, storm-water drains and inspection chambers;
- telecom cables and fibre ducts laid by different operators;
- abandoned pipes, old foundations and voids that do not appear on any drawing.
Whatever turns up gets a paint mark, a depth estimate and an entry in the signed findings report. Specialised scopes are described on our cable detection and pipeline detection pages.
Why are Puducherry's streets and soil unusual for a survey?
Puducherry is a coastal town, and two features stand out for anyone planning excavation.
The grid-plan French Quarter. White Town is laid out as a regular grid of straight streets. That helps a survey crew, because routes are predictable and every block corner is a natural point for a cross-line. It also concentrates services: each junction gathers cables, pipes and drains from four directions, and older lines in a heritage area may follow alignments nobody has recorded.
Sandy coastal ground. Dry sand is generally kind to radar. Near the sea, though, ground can hold moisture and salt, and both absorb the radar signal. So two streets only a short walk apart can give very different depth reach.
Power distribution in the territory is handled by the Electricity Department, Puducherry. Mezux Touch is not affiliated with the Electricity Department, the municipal bodies or any development authority, and we carry out surveys only for the clients who engage us.
How are the grid streets of White Town scanned?
A regular street pattern lets us plan the survey block by block. The usual sequence is:
- Walk-over. Chambers, poles, valve covers, meter boxes and repaired trench lines are noted, since each one hints at a buried route.
- Longitudinal lines. Radar runs parallel to the planned route along the carriageway or footpath, at spacings set for the street width.
- Junction grids. At every corner, a closer pattern of lines records services turning or crossing.
- EM tracing. Live cables and traceable metal pipes are followed between radar lines to confirm continuity.
- Marking and checking. Finds are painted, and any doubtful reading is rescanned before the crew moves on.
Heritage streets are narrow and often lined with parked vehicles. Lengths that cannot be reached are listed in the report instead of being guessed. Telecom contractors will find the duct-specific scope on our OFC route survey page.
How deep does ground penetrating radar read in coastal sand?
There is no honest single figure. A ground penetrating radar survey Puducherry clients can rely on states depth reach section by section, because the answer changes with the ground. Dry, clean sand lets the signal travel further; wet sand, clay pockets and saline ground near the shore cut it short. Rain and a high water table after the wet season reduce reach further.
The report therefore records, for each length, how deep the radar picture stayed readable and where the signal faded. If a service below that depth matters to your design – at a bore crossing, for example – a trial hole or borehole, opened on request, can settle the question.
Which survey scopes can be ordered in Puducherry?
| Scope | Typical use | Rate basis |
|---|---|---|
| Standard route survey | New cable, pipe or duct route along a road | ₹24 per metre |
| L-section survey | Route scan with plotted levels of each service found | ₹32 per metre |
| Site or plot scan | Hotels, institutions, housing plots before construction | Metre rate on scan lines |
| Crossing scan | Road or drain crossings ahead of HDD | Metre rate on scan lines |
| Cable fault locating | Finding the failure point on one cable | Quoted separately |
| Trial pits or boreholes | Proving a critical depth | Quoted on request |
Our pre-excavation utility scanning service suits plots and building sites, and these utility detection services in Puducherry can be combined with route work in a single order.
What does GPR survey in Puducherry cost?
Everything is priced per metre scanned. GST is charged on top of every figure below.
- 3 km street route, standard: charged as a 4 km job worth ₹96,000, which is lifted to ₹1,00,000 because Puducherry sits beyond Delhi NCR.
- 10 km cable route, standard: ₹2,40,000.
- 10 km cable route, L-section: ₹3,20,000.
- 120 km programme, standard: ₹21,60,000 after the 25% slab.
Long programmes earn a discount on all their metres, not just the extra ones: a total over 100 km is cut by a quarter, one over 500 km by 40%, and one over 1,000 km by half. None of the figures above covers getting the crew to Puducherry, after-dark shifts, traffic control and permits, or CAD/GIS drawings; each of those is priced as its own line. Slab tables and more examples are set out in our rate card.
What should you send to get a Puducherry quote?
A fast, accurate quote depends on a few details. Please include:
- The alignment or plot – KML, CAD file, marked map or even a clear sketch, with the total length or area.
- The work that follows – open trench, micro-trench, HDD bore or building foundations, so we know which depth matters.
- Survey type – standard, L-section, or a mix of both on different stretches.
- Access limits – streets in White Town with restricted hours, busy junctions, and any lengths still awaiting permission.
- Existing records – drawings from the Electricity Department or other owners, even incomplete ones.
- Drawing needs – whether CAD or GIS output is required, since that is priced separately.
With this, we return an itemised quote and a proposed programme, and the dates are fixed together with you.
How does a Puducherry job get mobilised?
Every project is run with our own equipment and people: 58 GPR systems and 18 HDD rigs, no hired machines and no sub-letting. Those teams have put 1.5 lakh+ km of radar route behind them, spread over 28+ States and UTs, during our 23 years. Every crew and system departs from Faridabad, so for Puducherry we agree the programme and the mobilisation with the client once the scope is clear. Mobilisation is quoted separately, and we do not promise a travel time before dates are fixed.
Grouping every ready stretch into one visit lowers the cost per kilometre. Engineers comparing capitals can see how the town fits with others on our state capitals page, and our Puducherry utility survey guide covers planning in more depth.

Questions about GPR survey in Puducherry
Do you scan inside the French Quarter's narrow streets?
Yes, where the street can be accessed safely and the project owner has arranged any permission needed. Narrow, parked-up streets may need early-morning or managed working, which is planned with you. Any length we cannot reach is recorded in the report rather than assumed clear.
Does salt in coastal ground spoil radar results?
Salty moisture soaks up radar energy and shortens how far down the image stays readable. Shallow services usually still show well, so the survey keeps its value. Each length's achieved depth is written up, so you know where the picture is complete and where it is limited.
Are you connected with the Electricity Department, Puducherry?
No. We hold no tie-up, approval or listing with the Electricity Department or with any other public body in the territory. Contractors and owners order surveys from us directly, and findings are reported only to them.
Can you survey a hotel or institution plot?
Yes. Plots are scanned on a grid to find service connections, drains, cables and old pipes before foundations or new connections. The bill is worked out from the total length of grid lines walked, subject to the 4 km and ₹1,00,000 minimums.
Is a separate visit needed for cable fault locating?
Not necessarily. Finding a cable fault is not part of a route scan and carries its own price, but if both are needed in Puducherry, they can be planned into the same mobilisation so the crew handles both during one trip.
What happens if records show a line you cannot find?
We note the mismatch in the report. The line may have been removed or rerouted, or may lie deeper than the radar could read on that length. If it matters to your work, a pit or borehole dug on request will confirm whether it is there.
