What does a GPR survey company in Leh actually do on site?

Its job is to establish what already lies in the ground before your own works disturb it. Working as a GPR survey company in Leh, Mezux Touch scans the planned line of a cable, pipe, duct or foundation and records every buried service it crosses.

The crew follows a set sequence:

  1. walks the alignment with your engineer, noting chambers, poles, valves and other surface clues;
  2. runs radar lines along the route and across it at junctions;
  3. follows energised cables and metal pipes with an EM locator;
  4. paints or pegs each find, writing the approximate depth beside it;
  5. logs coverage, depth reach and any stretch it could not enter, ready for the signed report.

Usual targets are electricity cables, water and drainage pipes, telecom cables and fibre ducts. For cable-specific detail, see our underground cable detection page.

How do altitude, cold and frozen ground affect work in Leh?

Leh is a high-altitude town in a cold desert, and that brings conditions few plains cities share.

  • Frozen ground in winter. Through the cold months the soil can stay frozen and snow can cover the surface. Excavation, trial pits and lasting ground marks all become hard, so most clients place both survey and digging in the warmer part of the year.
  • Thaw and meltwater. As ground thaws, its upper layer can hold water for a time. Moisture drains the radar signal and shortens how deep it reads; dry, sandy or gravelly ground generally lets the signal go further, though stones can scatter it.
  • Altitude and people. Anyone arriving from the plains needs time to adjust before heavy outdoor work. That time goes into the agreed programme instead of being squeezed out of it.

We never quote one radar depth for the whole town. The report gives the depth actually read on each section, and where a critical level has to be confirmed, we can dig trial pits or sink boreholes on request once the ground can be dug. Why soil matters so much is explained in our article on ground conditions and radar limits.

Which Leh projects call for a radar scan first?

  • Power distribution work. New or replacement cables on the Ladakh power department's network must get past existing water, drain and telecom lines.
  • Fibre and telecom ducts. Operators extending connectivity along town roads need a clear strip for the duct or the bore.
  • Water supply and drainage. New mains, sewers and house connections all cut through the busy strip beside the carriageway.
  • Government and institutional buildings. Foundations, compound walls and internal services on a plot carry less risk after a grid scan of the site.
  • Road and civic works. Widening, resurfacing or drainage schemes taken up through LAHDC Leh or other agencies, where the contractor must know what sits under the road first.

We have no affiliation of any kind with the Ladakh power department or LAHDC Leh, nor with any other DISCOM, civic body or development authority, and no such body has given us approval or empanelment. Our client is whoever books the survey – a contractor, a consultant or an asset owner. The wider method is described on our pre-excavation utility scanning page.

Our GPR scanning services in Leh follow the same method and rate card as anywhere else in India; what differs is the amount of planning before the crew travels. When the contract calls for depth along the route, our L-section GPR survey service is the option to read about.

What will a GPR survey in Leh cost?

For a ground penetrating radar survey, Leh projects are charged by the metre of route: ₹24 standard, ₹32 with an L-section. As Leh is outside Delhi NCR, every order carries two floors – no order is billed on less than 4 km, and no project below ₹1,00,000 – and GST is added at the end.

Example scopeSurveyBefore GST
2 km of town streetsStandard₹1,00,000 (4 km gives ₹96,000, below the project floor)
2 km of town streetsL-section₹1,28,000 (charged on 4 km)
5 km cable routeStandard₹1,20,000
7 km duct routeL-section₹2,24,000
120 km multi-route programmeStandard, 25% slab₹21,60,000

Large orders earn a discount on every metre they contain – 25% for anything over 100 km, 40% over 500 km, 50% over 1,000 km. Items such as mobilisation, night working, traffic arrangements and CAD/GIS drawing sets sit outside these figures as separate lines. For the full slab table, open our GPR survey price list.

How are mobilisation and the summer window planned?

Our crews work out of Faridabad, and so does the whole fleet of 58 GPR systems and 18 HDD rigs, every unit owned by the company. Given how remote Leh is and how brief its season, we sit down with each client to plan the programme and mobilisation rather than offering a standard timetable. We do not promise travel times; dates are confirmed once the scope and access are clear.

What helps most:

  • Settle the season early, and tell us when your own excavation or boring is due to begin.
  • Put every Leh route, plot and crossing into one order, so the crew travels once and the total length counts towards the slabs.
  • Have permissions in hand before the crew sets out; road-working approval rests with the project owner.
  • Share any drawings the service owners can provide, however incomplete.

Since 2003 our in-house teams have completed 1.5 lakh+ km of GPR survey in 28+ States/UTs, on owned machines with nothing sub-let.

Where can you read more about Leh and other capitals?

Ground, records and season planning are covered at greater length in our guide to underground utility surveys in Leh. To see how other seats of government compare, from Srinagar and Shimla to Gangtok, open the GPR survey page for state and UT capitals.

Utility detection services in Leh are not limited to roads. Plots, compounds and yards are scanned on a grid, and pricing then rests on the total length of grid lines the area requires, under the same rate card and floors.

STEP 1

Share the alignment

Send the KML or route drawing, total length, any crossings and the date your own excavation in Leh must begin.

STEP 2

Agree the season

Together we fix a window in the warmer months that suits your works, the ground and the time crews need to acclimatise.

STEP 3

One planned mobilisation

Crew and owned systems travel from Faridabad on a single trip covering every Leh route and plot in the order.

STEP 4

Scan and mark

Radar lines and EM tracing cover each street or plot, and each detected line gets paint or a peg and an approximate depth.

STEP 5

Signed report issued

Findings, the radar depth achieved per section and any area that ground or access kept us out of are all written up.

FAQ

Questions about GPR survey in Leh

Can you survey in Leh during winter?

Radar can be run over frozen ground, but snow cover, frozen surfaces and bitter cold make marking and the excavation that follows very hard. Most clients therefore plan both survey and digging for the warmer months, and we agree the dates with you once scope and access are known.

Does thawing ground change radar results?

It can. Thawing ground tends to keep water close to the surface, and that water absorbs radar energy, so readings may not go as deep on those stretches. Per-section depth figures in the report show the effect, and it flags any area where conditions limited what we could see.

Are you linked to the Ladakh power department or LAHDC Leh?

No. Neither body has approved, empanelled or contracted us, and we hold no tie with any distribution company or civic authority. Our findings are handed to the party that placed the order and to nobody else.

Can several short Leh streets be combined to reach 4 km?

Yes. Because the 4 km floor is counted per order, several short streets or plots in Leh can be grouped together. If the combined length still falls below 4 km, billing is on 4 km, and the ₹1,00,000 project floor still governs the final amount.

Do your crews need time to acclimatise in Leh?

Yes. Anyone coming up from the plains needs time to adjust to the altitude before heavy outdoor work. We build that time into the programme agreed with you, so it is planned rather than discovered on site, and it forms part of the mobilisation plan, not the metre rate.

Can you scan a government building plot in Leh?

Yes. A plot is covered by a mesh of crossing radar lines rather than one route, finding cables, water pipes and drains before foundations or new connections go in. Pricing follows the normal metre rate and minimums, calculated on the scan lines the site needs.
