Underground Utility Survey in Daman
A field note for engineers opening ground in Daman: what tends to be buried near the coast and the Damanganga, why salty soil matters to radar, and how a survey is planned and handed over.

An underground utility survey in Daman locates the power cables, water lines, drains and telecom ducts under a route or plot before anyone digs or drills. Mezux crews bring our own radar and EM locators from Faridabad. Rates: ₹24 a metre, ₹32 with an L-section, 4 km minimum billing, at least ₹1,00,000 per project, GST on top.
- Ground near the Damanganga and the sea holds water and salt, which cuts radar reach sharply.
- Torrent Power has run the UT's power distribution since 2022, so cable records may sit with different offices.
- Factory plots and approach roads often hide private cables and process lines missing from public drawings.
- Each find is painted on site and listed in a signed report with its detection method and confidence.
- Daman orders follow the Mezux rate card, carry the ₹1,00,000 out-of-NCR floor, and list travel separately.

What is an underground utility survey in Daman?
An underground utility survey in Daman is a check, done from the surface, of everything already buried along the strip of ground your project is about to open. It combines whatever records service owners will share, electromagnetic (EM) tracing of metallic utilities, and ground penetrating radar (GPR), which picks up both metal and non-metal objects by the echoes of the radar signal they return.
The output is practical rather than academic: each detected service is painted or pegged on site with its approximate depth, and a signed report lists what was found, where the equipment could not reach and how far each finding can be trusted. Service-level detail for the town is on the GPR survey in Daman page; this guide covers the planning side.
Why does a coastal town like Daman need a survey before digging?
Daman sits where the Damanganga river meets the Arabian Sea coast, and the ground reflects that. Soil close to the river and the shore holds more water, and in places more salt, than ground further inland. Higher moisture content and dissolved salt raise signal attenuation, meaning the radar wave loses its strength within a short distance, so depth reach shrinks; for an excavator, soft wet ground also hides services that may have drifted from their recorded line.
Other reasons make utility locating worth its cost here:
- Several owners in one strip. Power, water, drainage and telecom lines are laid at different times by different agencies, and nobody holds one combined drawing.
- Industrial units nearby. Factory plots and their approach roads often carry private cables and process lines that appear in no public record.
- Power distribution changed hands. Since 2022, power distribution in the UT has been run by Torrent Power, so older cable records and newer ones may sit with different offices.
Mezux Touch is not affiliated with Torrent Power, the civic body, the UT administration or any development authority. We work for whichever contractor or owner places the order.
Which types of utility survey can be ordered in Daman?
- Route survey – radar and EM passes along a new cable, pipe or duct alignment, crossing over at chambers; our OFC route GPR survey page covers duct practice.
- Plot grid – for factory yards and campuses, scanned over the footprint of foundations, tanks or new connections.
- L-section – the route scan plus a depth profile of each detected line, at ₹32 a metre.
- HDD crossing scan – bore path and both pits checked where a drill must pass beneath a road, drain or creek bank.
Cable fault locating is quoted as its own job, and trial pits or boreholes can prove a critical depth before design is frozen.
What do the terms in a survey brief actually mean?
- EM locating – a transmitter and a cable locator receiver follow metal cables and pipes by the current they carry or by a signal put onto them.
- 2D line or 3D grid – single radar profiles along and across a route, or tightly packed lines over a busy junction or pit spot.
- Penetration depth – how deep the radar actually saw on a stretch, set by soil and wetness and reported section by section.
- Detection confidence – how firmly a finding can be relied on, given ground, service size and method.
Our article on soil conditions and radar limits explains depth reach in more detail.
Which features separate a useful survey from a weak one?
- Coverage is stated as length actually scanned, with blocked stretches – parked vehicles, waterlogging, locked gates – listed and explained.
- Depth reach is given per section, so a reader sees where shoreline ground limited the result.
- Each find names its method, radar or EM, and unclear reflections stay labelled as unidentified.
Where a client wants CAD files or GIS layers built from this field data, we price that work separately; the CAD and GIS utility mapping page shows what those sets contain.
How should a Daman project plan and budget its survey?
Share the alignment or plot boundary as KML or a marked drawing, its length, the work that will follow and any road, drain or creek-bank crossings, plus restricted hours near markets, schools or factory gates. Daman is a long way from our Faridabad base, so programme and mobilisation are settled with the client before dates are fixed, and mobilisation shows on the quote as its own item.
How the rate card applies here:
- Standard scanning costs ₹24 a metre; adding the L-section makes it ₹32.
- Anything under 4 km is invoiced as 4 km.
- Lying outside Delhi NCR, a Daman project is never billed below ₹1,00,000.
- Cross 100 km and the whole order falls by 25%; past 500 km the cut is 40%, past 1,000 km 50%, on every metre.
- Added on top: GST, mobilisation, night working, traffic or permission arrangements and CAD/GIS drawing sets.
A 3 km street therefore comes to ₹96,000 on the 4 km minimum and is lifted to ₹1,00,000, while a 7 km cable route is ₹1,68,000 standard or ₹2,24,000 with an L-section, before GST. Full slabs are on the GPR survey price list, and other UT and state capitals we serve are on the state capitals page.
How should utility survey records be maintained afterwards?
Coastal rain and traffic wipe ground marks quickly, so the paperwork must carry the findings. Give each survey a reference number, file the report and drawings under it, note the survey date whenever the results are reused, and add your own as-laid line once it is in. Before a later excavation on the same strip, rescan the work front instead of trusting an old report. Questions about underground utility surveys in Daman
Does salty coastal ground limit radar in Daman?
It can. Saline and waterlogged soil absorbs the radar signal, so stretches near the shore or the Damanganga usually show less depth reach than drier ground inland. We do not quote a single depth for the town; the report states what the radar reached on each section and where EM tracing or a trial pit is needed.
Who distributes power in Daman, and are you connected with them?
Power distribution in the UT has been run by Torrent Power since 2022. Mezux Touch has no affiliation, approval or tie-up with Torrent Power or any other distribution company. Contractors working on their cable routes can hire us like any other client, and our findings go to the client who ordered the survey.
Can sites in other parts of the UT be added to a Daman order?
Yes. Additional routes or plots can be listed in the same enquiry, and we will say whether they can share the crew's mobilisation. Their lengths add to the order total for the discount slabs. Because distances inside the UT are not small, the programme for each site is agreed with you in advance.
What is the smallest bill for a survey in Daman?
Two minimums apply. Any order shorter than 4 km is billed as 4 km, and because Daman lies outside Delhi NCR, no project is billed below ₹1,00,000. A short 2 km job therefore costs ₹1,00,000 before GST, with mobilisation and any other separate items added.
Can you scan inside a factory compound?
Yes, once the unit's gate pass, induction and safety rules are in place. Inside premises we scan on a grid over the area to be excavated, tracing private cables, water lines, drains and process pipes. Lines the plant engineers already know about can be confirmed, and unknown ones are reported separately.
If excavation starts months later, is the old survey still valid?
It remains a useful record, but other agencies may have laid or moved services in the meantime. For a delayed start we suggest a fresh scan of the actual work front, at least at crossings and junctions. The original report helps plan that rescan quickly.
