Quick answer

Searching for a GPR survey company in Gangtok? Under Gangtok's hill roads and plots, our own crews, sent with radar systems from Faridabad, trace cables, water pipes, drains and fibre ducts. Gangtok charges are ₹24 per standard-survey metre and ₹32 per L-section metre; orders are billed on 4 km at minimum and projects on ₹1,00,000 at minimum, GST extra.

Rates and page checked:

Survey technician reviewing radar scan results on a tablet outdoors
Scan data is checked on site before a Gangtok stretch is marked and signed off.
Handheld electromagnetic locator tracing a buried cable beside a road
EM tracing confirms the metallic cables that radar has picked up along a slope.
Workers hand-digging a narrow trench to expose a marked buried pipe
Hand digging at marked points proves depth before any machine works close by.
Printed survey report pages listing detected services and their depths
Each Gangtok report names unscanned stretches as clearly as the services found.

Why bring in a GPR survey company in Gangtok before a hill road is cut?

Roads in Gangtok are benched into steep slopes, and the strip beside the carriageway usually carries power cables, water pipes, drains and telecom ducts packed close together. Hiring a GPR survey company in Gangtok before the breaker or the drill arrives tells your team which of those lines lie in the path of the new work and roughly how deep they sit.

Our crews scan with ground penetrating radar and confirm metallic lines with an electromagnetic (EM) locator. Radar responds to plastic as well as metal, so a PVC water main shows up alongside a steel pipe or an armoured cable. Each find is:

  • painted or pegged on the surface in its utility colour, with approximate depth written beside the mark;
  • entered in a signed report against your route or plot;
  • flagged where the signal was weak, so nobody reads a blank stretch as empty ground.

On a gradient, one strike can do more harm than a cut supply. Leaking water runs downhill into wall backfill and keeps working on it after the repair. More on tracing power lines is on our underground cable detection page.

Which Gangtok jobs usually need utility detection first?

Requests for utility detection services in Gangtok tend to come from a handful of job types. The table sets out each one and where the scan concentrates.

Type of jobWhat the survey concentrates on
New HT or LT power cables on the state networkExisting cables, earthing runs and the crossings at junctions
Gangtok Smart City street, footpath and drain upgradesOlder services under the rebuilt section as well as lines laid recently
Telecom fibre and duct routesFree space along the road edge and safe cover at each bore
Water and drainage replacement on municipal streetsCables and ducts crossing or running beside the pipe line
Government office, school or hospital compounds in the capitalA grid over the whole plot before foundations, tanks or new connections

Mezux Touch is not affiliated with the Energy & Power Department, Government of Sikkim, with Gangtok Municipal Corporation or with Gangtok Smart City. We act only for the contractor, consultant or owner who orders the work, and that client obtains existing records and digging permissions. Fibre alignments are covered on the OFC route GPR survey page, and distribution cabling on the HT/LT cable route survey page.

How do our crews run scan lines on steep, narrow roads?

Gradient and width both change how a ground penetrating radar survey Gangtok engineers can rely on is laid out. Our crews follow a few practical rules:

  1. Walk the route first. Bends, stairways, wall tops and drain covers are noted before scanning starts, so the line plan fits the road as it really is.
  2. Follow the usable strip. Long passes track the edge where the new service will go, with short cross-passes at every chamber, culvert and junction.
  3. Tighten spacing where services bunch. Hairpins and junctions squeeze cables and pipes into small spaces, so lines run closer together there.
  4. Measure cover from the surface at that point. As the road climbs, depth to a line changes, and the report states the reference used.
  5. Name the gaps. Parked vehicles, stalls or building material can block a stretch; it goes into the report with the reason.

Rock close to the surface and boulder-rich fill behind walls scatter the radar signal and can throw up echoes that look like a pipe. In such ground we add cross-passes and EM checks, and a doubtful response is reported as low confidence rather than guessed.

How deep can the radar see under Gangtok?

We do not quote one depth for the whole city. Radar reach is governed by soil and moisture: wet clay and saturated fill absorb the signal, while dry, sandy or gravelly ground lets it travel further. On a hill road the material can change from rock to imported fill within a few metres, so the depth actually achieved is written into our report section by section.

When a design hinges on a deeper line – say a bore that has to pass below an existing main – a trial pit or borehole can be opened at that point on request and priced separately. Our guide to soil conditions and GPR limits explains the reasons in plain terms.

What do GPR scanning services in Gangtok cost?

GPR scanning services in Gangtok are billed on the same card we use across India:

  • Standard route survey: ₹24 a metre, or ₹24,000 for each kilometre.
  • L-section survey: ₹32 a metre; it adds a depth profile of the detected services along the route.
  • Minimum length: 4 km per order, so a shorter route is charged as 4 km.
  • Project minimum: ₹1,00,000, because Gangtok lies outside Delhi NCR.
  • Volume discount: 25% off the whole order past 100 km, 40% past 500 km and 50% past 1,000 km, applied to every metre.

Some worked figures, GST excluded: a 5 km street surveyed at the standard rate is ₹1,20,000, rising to ₹1,60,000 when an L-section is included. A 9 km fibre route at standard rate is ₹2,16,000. A 2 km compound route would come to ₹48,000 at the metre rate; however, the 4 km minimum lifts it to ₹96,000 and the project minimum then raises it to ₹1,00,000. Every invoice carries GST on top.

Mobilisation, night-shift working, traffic arrangements or permissions, and CAD/GIS drawing sets sit outside the metre rate; each gets its own line on the quote. Every slab is listed on the GPR survey price list.

How are crews, systems and the programme planned for a hill capital?

We have no office in Sikkim. Every Gangtok order is carried out by in-house crews travelling with company-owned systems from our Faridabad base, drawn from a fleet of 58 GPR systems and 18 HDD rigs. Nothing is hired locally and no part of the work is sub-let.

For a hill capital, programme and mobilisation are agreed with the client before anyone sets out: working dates, permitted hours on busy roads, where the survey vehicle can stand and how the route divides into daily stretches. Mobilisation is quoted as a separate item. We do not promise a travel time, since roads and weather into the hills vary.

Over 23 years our crews have logged 1.5 lakh+ km of GPR survey in 28+ States/UTs, under ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018 systems. Planning notes for the city are in our Gangtok underground utility survey guide, and other capitals are compared on the state capitals GPR survey hub.

TIP 1

Mark the usable strip

Show on the drawing which edge of the road the new line will take, so scanning concentrates where digging will happen.

TIP 2

Gather existing records

Ask the power department and the municipal corporation for whatever drawings exist; even partial records show where to look harder.

TIP 3

Agree working windows

Busy stretches may be free only early or late, so fix the permitted hours before the crew's travel is booked.

TIP 4

Combine nearby jobs

Put several Gangtok routes or compounds into one order to clear the minimums once and spread a single mobilisation.

TIP 5

Check confidence notes

Before freezing the design, read which finds the report marks as low confidence and plan trial pits at those points.

FAQ

Questions about GPR survey in Gangtok

Are you connected with Gangtok Municipal Corporation or the Energy & Power Department?

No. Mezux Touch has no affiliation, empanelment or approval with either body, nor with Gangtok Smart City or any distribution company. We work for whoever places the order – a contractor, consultant or property owner – and our findings go to that client, who also arranges records and permissions.

Is a 3 km job in Gangtok charged for 3 km?

No. Three kilometres is under the 4 km order minimum, so it is billed as 4 km, which is ₹96,000 at the standard rate. Because Gangtok lies outside Delhi NCR, that amount is then raised to the ₹1,00,000 project minimum. GST, mobilisation and any other separate items are added on top.

Do you hire radar equipment locally in Sikkim?

Never. Every system our crews carry belongs to the company, drawn from 58 GPR systems kept and maintained at Faridabad. The operators are our own staff as well, so the people who scan your Gangtok route are the people who sign the report, with no sub-letting at any stage.

Can you locate a fault on a damaged cable in Gangtok?

Yes, as a separate job. Cable fault locating pinpoints a break or insulation failure on an existing cable, which is a different task from mapping a route before excavation. It is quoted on its own, and it can be combined with a route survey visit to avoid a second mobilisation.

Is GST part of the ₹24 per metre rate?

No. The per-metre figures of ₹24 for a standard survey and ₹32 for an L-section are quoted before GST, which is added to the invoice at the applicable rate. Separate items such as mobilisation and drawing sets are also shown before GST.

Can rain stop scanning on a Gangtok road?

Heavy rain and water running over the road surface can pause work, and saturated ground shortens how far radar sees. Crews keep going in light rain while readings stay usable, and the report records the depth actually reached on each section, so wet-weather results are never overstated.
