Raipur Municipal Corporation GPR Survey for Mains and Drains
Locating Kharun-fed mains, sewers and CSPDCL cables under Raipur zone roads, drawn up for work orders and cutting files.
Quick AnswerBefore a road in one of Raipur's 10 zones is dug, a Raipur Municipal Corporation GPR survey fixes where the Kharun-fed mains, sewers, CSPDCL cables and fibre ducts lie. Our team sweeps ground penetrating radar (GPR) over kanhar and bhata with a locator on each live cable. The plan with depths slots into the RMC work order or the cutting file. What does a Raipur Municipal Corporation utility survey give you?
Proof, gathered on the ground, of every pipe and cable beneath a Raipur street, scaled for the drawing board and the excavator alike. On a ground penetrating radar survey, the antenna pushes radar waves into the road and records how they bounce off buried objects. The locator stays with metallic pipes and cables for utility locating, chambers are lifted where the zone allows, and the data collected is combined on one sheet with rough depths.
The Raipur Municipal Corporation began as a municipal committee in May 1867 and became a corporation in 1973. It now runs 70 wards grouped into 10 zones. That history shows underground: cast-iron pipes from one era, asbestos cement from another and plastic from the last two decades, often in one street.
A single crossing means a dense lattice over a few metres. A ward study for a bid means every lane scanned end to end, with GPR data ready for the GIS team.
Does your Raipur road sit with RMC, the Nava Raipur authority or a highway agency?
Check this first, because it decides whose records you ask for and whose permission you need. Inside city limits, most roads and the water, sewer and drain network sit with the corporation through its zones. Nava Raipur Atal Nagar, the new capital area, has its own development authority. Highways belong to state or national road agencies, power cables to the Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Company and fibre to its operators. The scanning stays the same on each; only the sheet layout and our contacts change.
How does the survey fit into the permission process?
Survey first, then apply, so the file maps the cut or bore line and each service along it. Raipur's forms, cutting charges and reinstatement rules come from the corporation and get revised, so none are listed here; ask the zone office concerned for the present terms.
On a lengthy Raipur route, completed stretches are released one by one, letting you file for the first while later lengths are still being scanned.
What are Raipur's soils like for radar?
Mixed, and that is the main field challenge. The Chhattisgarh plain around Raipur has heavy dark clay locally called kanhar, lighter matasi and dorsa soils, and red-yellow lateritic gravel known as bhata. Kanhar absorbs the pulse, worst of all after rain. Bhata gravel carries it deeper yet breaks it up, so slim pipes and cables get lost in the scatter.
The crew resets the antenna and pass spacing as the ground switches between kanhar and bhata, and the locator does more of the work where echoes weaken. Raipur's hot pre-monsoon months let the radar see furthest into kanhar. Once the rains arrive, wet clay with high electrical conductivity can hide a deep PVC main, so on vital jobs we may propose a short delay or extra test pits. Site notes for the Chhattisgarh plain sit under what we do: GPR survey in Raipur.
Why do water mains need special attention in Raipur?
Because the city's main supply comes from the Kharun river through large transmission and feeder mains that are costly to damage and slow to repair. Raw water is treated at the Bhathagaon filter plant complex and pushed across the zones. A strike can cut supply to whole neighbourhoods and flood the trench, so a day of scanning costs far less than one repair.
Large steel or cast-iron mains in dry soil stand out clearly. PVC and AC pipes in soaked kanhar do not, so we hunt for sluice valves, air valves and chambers along the route and link them. The method is explained in details of underground pipeline detection. Want the Raipur planning steps in order? Mezux: utility survey guide for Raipur covers records, trial pits and timing.
Which survey suits which Raipur job?
The scan pattern and the drawing depend on what you are building.
| Raipur task | How we cover it | Handed to you |
|---|---|---|
| New water or sewer line along a road | Unbroken passes, with cross-passes at every side lane | Plan, depth schedule, crossing list |
| Cable or duct crossing by boring | Tight lattice flanking the planned bore | Crossing profile, safe bore depth window |
| Road widening or drain rebuilding | Full-width scan of verge and carriageway | Utility layer for the designer, shifting list |
| Tender or DPR | Corridor scan with chamber inspection | CAD and GIS files, Excel schedule, photographs |
Table note: if the Raipur sheet must be tied to precise state coordinates, our DGPS survey team fixes control on that same visit.
What does a Raipur survey cost?
₹24 per metre for a standard scan and ₹32 per metre for an L-section, with ₹1,00,000 as the minimum for each Raipur project.
- Slab discount on the whole order: 25% above 100 km, 40% above 500 km, 50% above 1,000 km
- GST extra
- Raipur mobilisation, where chargeable, listed separately in our quotation
A 25 km pipeline L-section totals ₹8,00,000 plus tax, while a 1.8 km drain length falls to the minimum. Our engineer lives in Raipur, so field work opens the day you sign off, or by the close of the next business day.
Do drains around Raipur's talabs need levels?
Many Raipur wards drain towards old talabs and nullahs, with roads only a little above the water. When an RMC job touches one, we carry levels from DGPS control set in Raipur. A total station at talab edges and outfalls reads banks, inlet pipes, road crowns and covers, and visibly settled road is noted. Radar lines go onto the same levelled base, so a drain designer sees the true fall to the talab and any of the utility lines in its way.
Who scans RMC roads in Raipur?
Raipur jobs are scanned by people on our payroll, using GPR we own. Mezux Touch began in 2003, and our crews have since covered upwards of 1.5 lakh km. Fifty-eight GPR systems sit in the company fleet, and no Chhattisgarh job goes to a subcontractor. Certification covers ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001. RMC has hired us on its own orders. Contractors and consultants on CSPDCL, water and road construction projects book us as well.

Frequently asked questions
Are Nava Raipur Atal Nagar sectors covered too?
Yes. Nava Raipur roads are scanned the same way, with the sheet formatted for its own authority.
Which parts of Raipur district can you cover?
The whole city and its outskirts, including industrial areas; see survey coverage in Raipur for detail.
Will the radar pick up an ageing AC supply pipe?
In most cases, above all in dry soil. Valve and chamber positions confirm the run, and a tight crossing gets a trial pit recommendation.
What happens if the radar cannot see a line?
The sheet records that gap, shades the length as doubtful and names a way to check it, such as a hand-dug pit.
Must the zone road be shut?
Seldom. Cones round one lane suit most Raipur streets; crowded junctions such as those on GE Road can be done after dark if agreed.
Is the drawing accepted with a permission application?
Each office has its own needs. Our sheet carries the details a cutting file asks for, and your engineer lodges it with the utility maps attached.
