IDA Indore GPR Survey for Schemes and MR Roads
Buried-service mapping for numbered IDA schemes, MR roads on the master plan and as-laid handover sheets in Indore.
Quick AnswerFor a numbered IDA scheme or an MR road, an IDA Indore GPR survey charts the pipes, ducts and cables already in the ground before new roads and mains follow. Ground penetrating radar (GPR) grids are paired with locator tracing, and the result gives depths plus a list of every crossing. Curious which CAD and GIS formats IDA designers receive? See about CAD and GIS utility mapping.
What does an IDA Indore utility survey involve?
On land IDA is laying out, developing or passing on, it records every existing line so the scheme's new roads and pipes steer clear of them. A ground penetrating radar survey sends pulses of radio waves into the soil and maps each echo from buried objects. A greenfield scheme off the Super Corridor may hide almost nothing, while an MR road through settled colonies can pack ten lines into one verge. Either way, the sheet states what turned up, our confidence in it and what was absent.
IDA is the city's development authority, set up under the Madhya Pradesh Nagar Tatha Gram Nivesh Adhiniyam, 1973, with its head office on Race Course Road. It carries out the city master plan through numbered schemes, acquires and allots land, and acts as the building agency for roads, bridges, flyovers and sewer lines.
Where is IDA building, and what is underground there?
Fresh layouts on Indore's fringe, and MR roads punched through settled colonies. Residents know IDA's work by scheme numbers, from long-settled Scheme 54 and Scheme 78 to newer layouts. Along the Super Corridor, IDA announced residential schemes 172 and 176 in 2019 on roughly 500 acres, alongside planned offices, a medical hub and a convention centre.
Master-plan roads, known locally by MR numbers such as MR-10, are a different job. IMC water lines, Paschim Kshetra feeders, Avantika gas and operator fibre have piled up beneath them, and widening one displaces several owners at once.
At which stage of a scheme should the survey happen?
One pass before the scheme design is locked, plus a second ahead of handover when new lines have gone in since. The table shows what the survey answers at each stage.
| Scheme stage | Question the survey answers | Usual output |
|---|---|---|
| Planning and DPR | What existing lines cross the land or the MR road? | Utility plan for the designer, risk notes |
| Tender | How much shifting will bidders have to price? | Line-by-line list with rough depths for bidders |
| Construction | Which line on site is clear for digging now? | Marks on the ground, crossing table |
| Handover | Where did the new services go? | As-laid utility drawing and photographs |
Table note: a typical IDA scheme calls for two of these four visits. For how the layers are combined, read: utility mapping.
Larger IDA schemes sometimes need each line graded for positional certainty, as SUE practice requires; there are details on SUE survey on our service page. IDA design teams get CAD with water, sewer, power, gas and telecom each on a separate layer.
What is the ground like on Indore's new schemes?
Mostly black cotton soil over weathered basalt, good for radar when dry and poor when wet. Wet clay has high electrical conductivity and absorbs the signal. Where fields become a scheme, what catches planners out is seldom a civic main. It is a farm irrigation pipe, a borewell feed, a pump-house cable or a lost drain that no file mentions. On such plots the locator chases metallic pipes, while a high frequency radar crosses the land in a lattice instead of a single sweep.
Swelling Malwa clay also shifts depths, so a pipe laid in a dry summer can ride up or sink within a few years. Our sheets give the depth the GPR data showed on survey day and advise a trial pit wherever a scheme road runs tight to an old main. Indore-wide ground notes are in details of GPR survey in Indore.
How long does an IDA Indore utility survey take?
For a scheme road of a few kilometres, our Indore-resident staff arrive straight after approval, at most a business day later. Scanning takes one or two days, and the IDA sheet follows within a few working days. Empty plots go fast, while crowded MR roads need night shifts at times. Long roads are delivered in instalments, and a revised layout means only the moved portion is rescanned.
When the drawing must sit on accurate ground coordinates for the scheme plan, we tie it in with control points; see DGPS survey for Indore sites.
What does IDA scheme work need from you up front?
The scheme number, its layout or road plan, and why the survey is wanted. Even a faded layout PDF shows where plots and roads will sit, and a KMZ fixes the MR road's start and end. Add old IDA, IMC or utility files, your site hours and who handles traffic. Flag a bid use early, because tender sheets cover a wider band than an excavation plan. Old files only steer the search, and utility lines not checked on site are marked unconfirmed.
How is an IDA job priced?
IDA work is charged on metres of route or lattice scanned, never below ₹1,00,000 a project.
- Standard GPR scan: ₹24 per metre
- L-section with a depth profile: ₹32 per metre
- Discount on the whole order: 25% above 100 km, 40% above 500 km, 50% above 1,000 km
- GST extra; chargeable travel or mobilisation, if any, shown separately in our quotation
Twelve kilometres of L-section across a scheme's internal roads would come to ₹3,84,000 plus GST. A 2 km look at one MR road junction is billed at the minimum.
Can one survey base serve several IDA schemes?
Along the Super Corridor, schemes 172 and 176 cover some 500 acres, with roads and plots designed in stages. We fix concrete pillars with DGPS for Indore scheme land, then pick up field edges, nallahs, tracks and pole lines by total station on IDA plots. Radar runs along the planned roads are tied to those pillars. A shifted MR road can be checked against the same base, and the handover drawing carries true coordinates for each main, sewer and duct.
Who scans IDA scheme land?
Engineers on our payroll, using radars the company owns. Mezux Touch has done this work since 2003 with 58 GPR sets of its own. The same team scans and drafts, with no subcontracted crew, under ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 processes. IDA projects have come to us on direct work orders from the authority. Builders, consultants, utilities and plot allottees on its construction projects also hire us.

Frequently asked questions
What is IDA's role compared with the municipal corporation?
IDA plans and builds schemes and master-plan roads; the corporation runs civic services across the city. Where IMC already maintains the road, see Indore Municipal Corporation utility survey for your site.
Can you survey open land before a scheme layout is drawn?
Yes. A radar grid over the plot plus locator tracing can detect underground farm pipes or cables before road lines are frozen.
Do you produce the as-laid drawing at handover?
Yes. Freshly laid scheme services are scanned and drawn as built, with photos, which helps when IDA hands the scheme on to another body.
Can one survey serve both the tender and construction?
Frequently. Where the site stays unchanged, the bid sheet is updated for building with a quick recheck of the utility maps at crossings.
What if the MR road alignment changes after the survey?
Only the shifted part of the MR road is scanned again, and the revised sheet is charged on those added metres.
