AUDA GPR Survey for TP Scheme Roads and Ring Road Crossings
Mapping farm pipes, village lines and live cables under new TP scheme roads, ring road bores and growth-centre plots in the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority region.
Quick AnswerAn AUDA GPR survey locates the underground utilities under a planned TP scheme road, a Sardar Patel Ring Road crossing or a growth-centre plot while the design can still change. Ground penetrating radar (GPR) covers the fringe from Sanand to Dahegam, where village and farm lines are rarely drawn. When the job ends in a trenchless crossing, read more about HDD route survey.
Where does AUDA's area begin and end?
It wraps around the city corporation and reaches into four districts, so a site outside Ahmedabad's wards may still be an AUDA job. The authority was set up on 1 February 1978 under the Gujarat Town Planning and Urban Development Act, 1976. Its jurisdiction covers about 1,866 square kilometres, including the corporation area, with 169 villages and five growth centres: Kalol, Dahegam, Bareja, Mahemdavad and Sanand.
AUDA plans the region, prepares town planning schemes and builds trunk roads, water and sewer lines in the areas it develops. Its head office is Sardar Patel Bhavan in Usmanpura, on Ashram Road. Inside the 48 municipal wards, roads and services fall to the corporation; see our AMC Ahmedabad utility survey team for those.
What happens underground when farmland becomes a TP scheme road?
The old services stay where they were, while the plots and roads above them are redrawn. A town planning scheme pools irregular farm plots, takes a share for roads and amenities, and returns reshaped final plots. The new road may run straight over an irrigation pipe, a village water line or a cable that once followed a field boundary.
AUDA records are therefore only a starting point. Panchayat water lines, borewell pipes and farm power cables are often missing from any plan, yet radar finds most of them and the locator follows any line carrying current. On unpaved scheme roads, shallow pipes that a roller could crush are flagged separately for the road contractor.
Which AUDA jobs come up most often?
Most enquiries are for new scheme roads, trunk services and crossings of busy roads on the urban edge. Runs are longer than in the inner city, and the surprises are rural.
| AUDA job | What tends to be hiding | Our output |
|---|---|---|
| Fresh TP scheme road | Irrigation and panchayat pipes left under the redrawn plots | Plan of every service with depths |
| Trunk water main or sewer | Power cables and gas pipes cutting across its path | Long section numbering each crossing |
| HDD shot beneath the ring road or a highway | Lines near the launch and reception pits | Bore strip scan and clearance profile |
| Factory plot in a growth centre | Process piping and privately laid cables | Whole-plot scan with no-dig areas shaded |

Why scan before boring under the ring road?
A bore that meets a cable or gas main halfway is far harder to recover than an open trench. AUDA developed the Sardar Patel Ring Road, and many fibre, power and water projects now cross it or run beside it. The safe drill path depends on what sits around the launch pit, the reception pit and the ground between them.
For a ring road bore, our ground penetrating radar survey sweeps a strip several metres beyond the drill path, and a clearance profile records each service depth. Since 18 HDD rigs work within the group, SP Ring Road drillers receive a profile in the form they use. A pipeline that follows a highway verge for kilometres is better scoped as a corridor; see what we do: utility corridor mapping.
How does the ground around Ahmedabad treat the radar?
The alluvial plain around the city gives clear radar results, with a few seasonal exceptions. Farmland alluvium suits this geophysical method, whose electromagnetic waves travel down and come back as reflected signals from every buried pipe or field drain. Dry sandy soil lets the signal reach service depth with little loss. Irrigated fields, canal margins and low land that holds water after the monsoon weaken it, and deep plastic pipes can fade out. There, trial pits and utility locating with the cable tool fill the gaps. Seasonal soil notes sit under more on GPR survey in Ahmedabad.
What does an AUDA utility survey cost?
AUDA routes are charged by length scanned, subject to a floor per project, and get cheaper as the programme gets longer.
- Standard GPR scan at ₹24 per metre; with an L-section of depths, ₹32 per metre.
- A minimum order of ₹1,00,000 per project; where mobilisation is chargeable, the formal quote shows it.
- On the whole order, 25% off above 100 km, 40% off above 500 km and 50% off above 1,000 km.
As a worked example, 4.5 km of fresh scheme road on the standard scan is ₹1,08,000. At 120 km, a trunk-line programme earns ₹18 a metre, which makes ₹21,60,000 overall. GST is added to every figure. Staff resident in Ahmedabad pick up AUDA work at Sanand, Kalol or Bareja, often within hours of your approval and always inside one business day.
What should you send before we visit?
The TP scheme or plot number, the planned line and its width, the purpose of the drawing and any records, even faded ones. A KMZ or a map pin is enough to price the job, and a scanned TP scheme sheet can be georeferenced and scanned against.
On the fringe, mention standing crops, fenced plots or locked gates along the route. Access slows an AUDA job more often than scanning does.
Can TP scheme road lines be marked against detected services?
Yes. Our surveyors stake the scheme's road lines on the ground and show every buried line against them. TP schemes reshape survey numbers into final plots, so a farm pipe or village cable may end up inside a future carriageway. The drawing then shows which buried utilities fall within the road, the margin or the plot. Site control comes from DGPS fixes on AUDA land, and plot corners and road edges are pegged with a total station stake-out.
Which teams scan AUDA schemes, and who orders the work?
Mezux Touch staff carry every AUDA job from the first radar pass to the final CAD file, using radar the company owns. That has been the arrangement since 2003, under our ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 certification and without hired crews. Some AUDA jobs come as direct work orders from the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority. Builders on TP scheme plots, road contractors, consultants and utilities engaged on its construction projects make up the rest.

Frequently asked questions
Does AUDA need a separate permission for trial pits?
In most cases yes, from whichever body owns the road, because a trial pit cuts the surface and radar does not. For the permission side, see RoW permission in Ahmedabad details.
Can you work from a TP scheme map?
Yes. Share the final plot and road layout, and we scan along the proposed roads and overlay the GPR data on the scheme drawing.
Do you cover Sanand, Kalol and the other growth centres?
Yes. All five growth centres lie inside AUDA's area, and data collection runs the same way in each.
Will you find old farm pipes?
Most of them. Steel and large-bore metallic pipes are easy, while a thin plastic irrigation line in a wet field needs a trial pit.
Can one survey cover land on both sides of the AMC boundary?
Yes. The field work is the same, and the drawing is split so each owner gets the part it needs.
What file formats do you deliver?
Layered CAD and GIS files on your chosen coordinates, an Excel schedule listing each of the utility lines and crossings, and photographs from site. Paint marks go down in real time during the scan.
