Quick AnswerIn a DGPS survey one satellite receiver, the base, stays on a point whose coordinates are already known while a second, the rover, visits every corner or feature. The base sends corrections, so positions come out at 1–2 cm in plan instead of several metres. Where the same ground may hide cables or pipes, look at what we do: GPR scanning.

What is a DGPS survey?

It pins ground positions to a centimetre or two. A base receiver sits over a known point while a rover moves from feature to feature, and the errors both share cancel out.

DGPS stands for differential global positioning system. Modern receivers track several constellations, so you will also hear differential GNSS. A phone working alone is metres out: fine for a shop, not for a disputed plot corner.

How do the base and rover work together?

DGPS works like this: the base sees how far the satellite answer drifts from the truth, and the rover subtracts that drift from each position it logs.

Satellites seen by both receivers Correction data: radio or mobile link (RTK, about once a second) Base on a known point error = computed − known Rover on a plot corner applies the correction
Illustration: error measured at the base, whose true position is known, is sent to the rover and taken off every corner the rover stores.

Real-time kinematic (RTK) working sends corrections to the rover by radio or mobile data, giving a corrected coordinate in seconds. Static working logs raw gps signals at both receivers for an hour or more, for processing in the office. It is slower but strongest, so key project control uses it.

Near a Survey of India CORS site, one of the country's permanent ground based reference stations, the base takes its coordinate from that station instead of an assumed value. Your drawing will then join other datasets without a shift.

How accurate is it, and where does it struggle?

With a clear view of the sky, expect about one to two centimetres in plan from RTK, and two to three in height. Height is the weaker figure because every satellite sits above the antenna and none below it, so the vertical geometry is lopsided.

Tall buildings, dense trees, tin sheds and high walls block satellites or bounce signals into the antenna, an effect called multipath. In a cramped gully the crew does not chase a fix. It places two DGPS points in open ground and lets a total station carry on, as how our total station survey works explains. Rain and darkness do not stop satellite based positioning, but a weak mobile network can interrupt RTK corrections, so the link is checked first.

What is it used for?

Jobs where the coordinate itself is the product: where a corner sits, where a line runs and how the site ties to a map.

  • Plot and farm boundaries: corner coordinates and area before a sale, loan or new wall.
  • Ground control: marked points for drone flights, traverses or setting-out.
  • Route control: point pairs along a road, pipeline or cable route on one grid.
  • Layouts on open land: township roads, warehouse pads and solar fields marked from design coordinates.
  • Joining old and new data: scanned maps and field work on WGS-84 / UTM for GIS.

Once levels, contours, trees and manholes are needed, the job becomes a topographic survey. Our topographic survey team builds it on the same DGPS control.

How does a DGPS job run from enquiry to drawing?

In five stages; for an ordinary plot the field part takes one day.

  1. Scope call: share a map pin, papers and the drawing's purpose; the engineer chooses RTK, static or both.
  2. Control: the base station goes on a stable, open point, created and marked first on a fresh site.
  3. Field picking: the rover GPS receiver records corners, pillars, gates, road edges and your other items.
  4. Independent checks: selected points are re-observed from a fresh set-up before the team leaves.
  5. Office work: coordinates are reduced to your grid, plotted in CAD and issued with a method note.

Each city page covers its own access and sky-view quirks; one example is the DGPS survey in Gurugram process step by step.

What does a DGPS survey cost?

From ₹12,000 for a plot up to one acre, field work and drawing included, with larger plots charged per acre and route work per point.

  • Plot up to 1 acre: from ₹12,000
  • Plots of 1–5 acres: ₹2,500 per acre, minimum ₹12,000
  • Control points along a route: ₹3,000 per point

Worked through, a three-acre plot stays at the ₹12,000 minimum, a five-acre field comes to ₹12,500, and twenty route control points cost ₹60,000. Every DGPS survey price here excludes GST. Each city we cover has a resident surveyor. NCR plots are observed on the booking day or the one after, and plots elsewhere start as fast with the local team member. Travel or mobilisation, where due, is itemised in the quote, which fixes the DGPS survey cost before work begins.

DGPS work: key facts

Receivers4 base + rover sets we own, with 6 total stations as back-up
GridYour project grid, or WGS-84 / UTM zone 43N as standard in NCR
Handed overPDF + DWG drawing, coordinates in Excel/CSV, KMZ or SHP
Drawing issuedNormally 3 working days after the field visit
Start on siteSame day or within 1 working day in NCR; elsewhere a locally based team member starts within 1 working day at most

Table note: these rows hold for every city we cover; access and timing for sites east of the Yamuna are set out on DGPS survey in Noida.

How do you choose a DGPS survey company?

Ask four plain questions before paying anyone, and weak offers fall away quickly.

  • Do they own the receivers? Ours are owned outright: 4 base + rover sets, plus 6 total stations and 6 auto levels.
  • Will they re-observe check points and show the differences?
  • Are the grid and height datum named on the drawing sheet?
  • Are scope, price and delivery date in writing?

Before hiring anyone, also ask whether satellites suit your site at all; see: DGPS vs Total Station sets the two side by side. Mezux Touch has kept its crews on the payroll since 2003 under ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001. They work across Delhi, Faridabad, Gurugram, Noida, Ghaziabad, Sonipat, Rohtak, Rewari, Palwal, Meerut and other NCR towns. Clients outside NCR can send your drawings for a quote; the resident team member in that city then takes the job.

DGPS survey pages by city

Each of these cities has a DGPS team member living locally; each page lists local ground, datum and timing notes.

Frequently asked questions

How does DGPS differ from ordinary GPS?

On its own a handheld unit drifts by metres. DGPS parks a second receiver on a known coordinate as a reference station, which measures the drift and feeds the rover a correction, cutting the error to roughly 1–2 cm.

How many days will a DGPS survey need?

One day on site for a few acres, and the drawing about 3 working days later. Route control depends on point count and access.

Is a private DGPS survey accepted as official demarcation?

No, that power lies with each state's revenue department. Our coordinates and drawing help you prepare, check a layout or settle the facts with a neighbour.

Which coordinate system will my drawing use?

WGS-84 with UTM zone 43N by default in Delhi NCR, or your project grid or site datum if you give us its control values.

Do you take DGPS work outside Delhi NCR?

Yes, anywhere in India. Each state has a resident Mezux surveyor who sets the base up straight away or on the following working day. Any travel or mobilisation charge is printed as a separate quote line.

Can I see a worked city example?

Yes, a typical Faridabad job is traced end to end on DGPS survey in Faridabad: scope, time and cost.
