Quick AnswerIn a DGPS survey in Gandhinagar, one GNSS unit stays over a coordinated pillar and feeds corrections to a second unit visiting each sector plot corner, pillar or footing. Expect plan coordinates good to 1–2 cm and levels to 2–3 cm, on WGS84 / UTM 43N or a GIFT City-style site grid. Our Gandhinagar colleague, who works from home in the city, can begin immediately or at most one working day later. More on our Mezux DGPS survey page.

Why use DGPS in a planned city like Gandhinagar?

Because a grid on paper is only useful when the ground points carry the same coordinates as the drawings, and DGPS fixes those points to within a couple of centimetres. Planning of the new Gujarat capital began in 1965, and its original 30 sectors were drawn as near-square blocks about a kilometre across. Roads are lettered with Gujarati characters in one direction and numbered in the other, so a site address such as a Gh-road corner tells you almost exactly where it is. What the address cannot tell you is where a particular plot's corner sits to the centimetre, or whether a new building lines up with the sector's setback. A DGPS survey in Gandhinagar answers both.

What kinds of jobs come in from the capital region?

  • Sector plots and institutional campuses: corner coordinates and control pillars before design or extension.
  • GIFT City sites: control for towers and podiums, tied to the developer's site grid.
  • Newer sectors and GUDA areas on the city edge: coordinates for plots carved from town planning schemes.
  • Industrial land around Kalol and towards Sanand: boundary and building positions for factory sheds and warehouses.
  • Linear works such as the metro extension and road widening: pairs of pillars along the alignment.

Which datum and projection do we deliver?

WGS84 latitude and longitude and UTM zone 43 North – Gandhinagar lies at about 72.6° east – unless a consultant has fixed a local grid. GIFT City and the bigger institutional campuses mostly run their own local grids. Our crew first sets up on two or more of those pillars and confirms they still match one another. Every point is then issued in both frames, with the conversion parameters. Elevations from GNSS are geometric; a geoid model turns them into sea-level figures, and if you ask, an auto level line closes on a nearby benchmark.

How does the city's tree cover affect satellites?

Gandhinagar is famous for its greenery, and the same avenues that shade its roads also block and scatter satellite signals.

Illustration: the base sits at an open road circle; rovers fix points across the sector. Where the city's thick avenue trees cover a point, it is fixed by tape or total station offsets from two open points instead.

The fix needs discipline more than equipment. The base goes in genuinely open ground – a wide road circle, a playground or an empty plot – never under a canopy. Clear-sky points are shot in real time and then re-observed. Anything beneath the neem and gulmohur canopy is offset-measured from two open stations, or left for a total station working from the GNSS pillars. In GIFT City the problem changes: tall glass towers reflect signals, so control there is observed by longer static sessions well away from façades.

How is a control network built?

Pillars are placed where they will survive construction, fixed by static GNSS sessions from the base, and checked by measuring the distance between pairs. On a campus that might mean four pillars at the corners; on a road or metro-side job, pairs every kilometre or so. Each pillar gets a description card with photo and sketch.

The technique is a differential global positioning system. A GPS receiver held over a coordinated pillar acts as the base station and logs the same GPS signals as the rover. Its true coordinates are fixed, so any gap between its computed and true position is pure error. Sending that error to the rover and removing it is the whole idea of how DGPS works. The permanent stations run by Survey of India are ground based reference stations of the same design. On one campus, though, our own reference station a short walk away keeps baselines brief. Satellite-based positioning then holds a centimetre or two across the site. Those pillars also carry the levels and contours of a topographic survey in Gandhinagar for your site. Tree-shaded or boxed-in pockets follow the optical routine in getting a total station survey in Gandhinagar done right. Trenching plans call for a look at GPR survey in Gandhinagar at a glance first. Gujarat owners with a Rajasthan project as well can work through the questions to ask before a DGPS survey in Jaipur too.

Getting ready for a DGPS survey in Gandhinagar

A clear list of points and the grid they must be reported in, so the crew can finish in one visit.

  • Sector and plot number – or, beyond the sectors, a dropped map pin.
  • How many points you need and what they are: pillars, corners, boreholes or building positions.
  • Any existing control list from the architect, developer or campus engineer, with the grid it uses.
  • Access rules – gate passes for campuses, permits for GIFT City, contact person on site.

With that in hand, we choose the base position from satellite imagery before the site day and bring enough pillars and pins. Static sessions are timed for the hours when most satellites sit above the trees.

What do Gandhinagar DGPS jobs cost?

Single-acre sector plots are charged from ₹12,000. Travel, where it applies, is a separate item. Since our surveyor lives locally, most sectors are reached that day or the next working day.

  • Plot up to 1 acre: from ₹12,000.
  • 1–5 acres: ₹2,500 per acre (minimum ₹12,000).
  • Control points along a route: ₹3,000 per point.
  • Mobilisation, if applicable: itemised in the quote you sign.

GST is extra and the written quote fixes the final amount. Ahmedabad work can join the Gandhinagar order, since one Gujarat team handles both cities. Send the sector and plot number or a pin, with a rough count of points, and request a site visit for Gandhinagar.

Frequently asked questions

Do you need the TP scheme or allotment drawing?

It helps. With it we can report the measured corners against the drawn plot and show any difference.

Should my sector plot get DGPS or a total station?

Bare land favours GNSS; tree-shaded or built-in corners favour optical work. Sector clients comparing methods can weigh the trade-offs in a short guide on DGPS vs total station.

Can you also check ownership lines?

Yes. Our land surveyor in Gandhinagar: scope, time and cost page covers boundary checks.

Can you work inside GIFT City?

We can, once the developer's entry and safety permissions are in place, and our points will sit on the zone's own grid.

How many control pillars does a campus need?

Three or four in most cases, placed where construction will not disturb them.

Will points under trees be accurate?

Yes, because they are fixed by offsets or total station from open control, not by the rover under canopy.
