Quick AnswerA Jaipur Municipal Corporation GPR survey fixes the position, cover and owner of every sewer, PHED main, JVVNL feeder and fibre duct under a corporation street before it is dug. Ground penetrating radar (GPR) and a cable locator do the field work. Since the November 2025 merger, one corporation handles the file (Source: The Week, 11 November 2025). If the target is mostly a PHED main or an ageing sewer, our page on underground pipeline detection goes into more depth.

What is a Jaipur Municipal Corporation utility survey?

It is a pre-dig record of everything buried beneath a corporation street. During a ground penetrating radar survey, a pram-sized cart beams electromagnetic waves through the asphalt; a locator then picks out which cables carry current. The operator reads the traces in real time, and the finished sheet can go with a road-cut file, a tender bid or a method statement.

Most corporation work is sewer replacement, storm drains, road widening, house connections and telecom ducts. PHED, the state Public Health Engineering Department, supplies water and JVVNL owns the power network, while gas and fibre sit with private licensees. Our sheet puts the underground utilities of all these owners together.

Jaipur has one corporation again: what changed in November 2025?

Since 10 November 2025 the city has had a single Jaipur Municipal Corporation, formed by merging the Heritage and Greater corporations that had been split off in 2019. An administrator ran the merged body until the civic elections of September 2026, which were fought across 150 wards. (Sources: The Week, 11 November 2025; India TV, 14 September 2026.)

From 2020 to 2025 two offices issued work orders and filed drawings, so papers for a road near the old dividing line may sit in either set. Send us whatever you hold from both. Old sheets show where to slow down, but only lines the scan confirms reach our drawing.

Who owns the lines under a Jaipur street?

Several bodies at once, so the drawing names an owner against each line we can attribute. Colonies built by the development authority and handed over later can differ.

Why does radar see further in Jaipur's dry ground?

Dry, sandy soil lets radar waves travel much deeper than wet clay does, and most of Jaipur stands on such ground. Decades of pumping have pushed the water table far down, so the top few metres stay dry. A mid-frequency antenna then resolves pipes at two metres and often more.

Near the Aravalli ridges, around Amer and below Nahargarh, bedrock rises close to road level and broken stone in the fill returns pipe-like echoes. There we tighten the grid and lean on the locator for utility detection. For the theory, see: Underground Utility Detection Methods. How our Jaipur crew is based and equipped: details of GPR survey in Jaipur.

Dry sand: most of the city Near the Aravalli ridges Water Sewer Cable Shallow rock and stones: more clutter Radar reaches deep
Illustration: in dry sand the radar footprint (blue) reaches well below most services; near the ridges stones and shallow rock cut the reach and add false echoes.

What changes when the job is inside the walled city?

The kit shrinks, the shifts move to the quiet hours and more chambers get lifted by hand. The walled city, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2019, has bazaars crowded from morning to late evening, and generations of relaid services make depths jump between stretches. We scan before the markets open or at night with zone-office consent, and keep paint marks off old stonework.

At what stage of a road-cut application is the survey done?

Before the file goes in, since a zone office clears a cut faster once it sees which services the trench meets. Road-cut charges change often, so the office itself is the only safe source for them.

  1. You share the alignment, a location pin or KMZ, and any old drawings.
  2. Radar lines run with and across the route to reach buried objects, while the locator follows each energised JVVNL cable.
  3. Spray arrows on the tarmac show where each pipe and cable runs.
  4. The drawing is issued with depths, owners where known and a crossing list.
  5. Where the sheet must be geo-referenced, control points come from a DGPS survey for Jaipur sites.

Permissions beyond the corporation, and how Jaipur sites tend to run, are covered when you read utility survey guide for Jaipur.

What does a Jaipur utility survey cost?

Jaipur corporation work is priced on metres covered, subject to a floor and reduced on large programmes.

  • Standard GPR scan: ₹24 per metre
  • L-section with depth profile: ₹32 per metre
  • Minimum order: ₹1,00,000 per project in Jaipur
  • Whole-order discount: 25% above 100 km, 40% above 500 km, 50% above 1,000 km

On a 3.5 km sewer run the standard rate gives ₹84,000, which is under the Jaipur minimum, so the bill is ₹1,00,000. A 7 km L-section for a road widening works out to ₹2,24,000. GST is extra. Since our Pink City surveyor works from home there, the radar rolls on the day you agree, or one business day later at most. Travel, when chargeable, is set out in the quotation.

How do walled-city finds get onto a usable grid?

Old hand-drawn sheets of the walled city rarely agree. On jobs inside the gates or long sewer routes we fix control using DGPS survey work in Jaipur at open squares. In narrow bazaars, a total station run through the lanes carries the points in and records chowk levels, kerbs and covers. The utility maps then give invert levels on your road chainage.

Who scans Jaipur corporation streets?

Our own engineers, with radar units the company owns. Mezux Touch has surveyed utilities since 2003 and never sub-lets field work. It runs 58 radar units and holds ISO 45001, 14001 and 9001 certificates. Jaipur Municipal Corporation itself has handed us work orders. PHED and JVVNL construction projects bring further jobs through their contractors and consultants. The data collected on each street is drawn by the crew that gathered it.

Frequently asked questions

Is a road-cut approval from the old Heritage or Greater corporation still valid?

That is for the corporation zone office to say. Our drawing does not depend on which office issued the file, and it can be re-dated on renewal.

Can you scan the bazaars of the walled city at night?

Yes, where the zone office and traffic police agree. We bring lighting and a small crew, and finish before the shops open.

Can a PHED plastic house connection show up on radar?

Often, in Jaipur's dry ground. Small plastic pipes are hard targets, so where one matters we confirm it at a valve chamber or trial hole.

Is the minimum order the same for a single lane?

Yes. The ₹1,00,000 floor covers a lane as much as a long road, so club nearby short streets into a single order.

What is the lead time before scanning begins in Jaipur?

Scanning starts on confirmation day, or at most one business day later, since our engineer is Jaipur-based. Mobilisation, if chargeable, is priced separately in the quotation.

Do you cover the outer colonies as well as the core city?

Yes, across the corporation area and beyond. See what we do: survey coverage in Jaipur.
