Ludhiana Municipal Corporation GPR Survey for Sewer Lines
Radar scans and depth-marked crossing drawings for the canal-water pipeline, Buddha Nullah sewer work, road widening and Focal Point cable trenches, done by Mezux staff.
Quick AnswerBefore a Ludhiana street is dug for a pipeline, sewer or widening, a Ludhiana Municipal Corporation GPR survey shows which pipes, cables and ducts sit beneath it. Ground penetrating radar (GPR) picks up the buried lines, a locator traces the energised ones, and each service is plotted with its depth and owner where known. What does a Ludhiana Municipal Corporation utility survey include?
A ground-truth map of the stretch in your work order, read alike by the site team, the consultant and the corporation's engineers. A ground penetrating radar survey works like sonar in soil: electromagnetic waves enter the road, and the delay of the reflected signals from each line tells its depth. Mains, house connections, sewers, drains, cables and fibre ducts are each fixed with an indicative depth and, where the evidence allows, an owner.
Ludhiana's civic body runs under the Punjab Municipal Corporation Act, 1976, and voters across its 95 wards chose the present house in December 2024. The road in your package almost certainly carries services laid by several agencies over decades, and paper records seldom agree with the ground.
Why are so many Ludhiana roads being opened up now?
Two large water projects run alongside the usual cable and pipe work, so junctions are dug by different teams within months. The 24x7 canal-based drinking water project is funded by the World Bank and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank. It is building a treatment plant at Bilga village near Sahnewal, with a pipeline into the city and overhead reservoirs. Press reports in 2025 put its first phase of civil works at about ₹1,300 crore, with metered house connections to follow.
Along the Buddha Nullah, the rejuvenation project (reported at roughly ₹840 crore) has brought sewage treatment and interceptor work. These construction projects must cross roads that already hold cables, fibre and older water lines. If a trunk main hits a feeder cable at a busy chowk, the whole package can stall.
Along the Bilga pipeline and the nullah interceptors, the whole length gets scanned, and each chowk and culvert gets a denser grid of cross-lines. A sample of how we lay out a long job, chainage by chainage with every crossing listed, is under utility corridor mapping at a glance.
How does the Sutlej plain soil affect the radar?
Most of Ludhiana is built on Sutlej alluvium, which radar reads well, though a few parts of the city fight back. Dry sandy loam carries the pulse cleanly, and pipes at ordinary civic depth show up in most streets. Trouble spots are wet ground beside the Buddha Nullah, low pockets that hold water and old roads built up with brick ballast and rubble, which fill the image with clutter.
There the antenna frequency is matched to the target depth, extra passes go in, and metallic pipes and cables are traced by locator, which damp soil barely troubles. A doubtful crossing gets a hand-dug trial pit. Ground conditions for the rest of the city are covered in GPR survey in Ludhiana.
Which scope fits which Ludhiana package?
The scope follows the work, so a trunk-main package and a fibre trench in an industrial lane need different coverage.
| Ludhiana work | Scan coverage | Handover |
|---|---|---|
| Canal-water trunk main out of the Bilga plant | Whole alignment, dense cross-lines at each chowk | Corridor drawing, crossing list and long sections |
| Interceptor sewer along the Buddha Nullah | Both bank roads, with manhole covers lifted | Plan showing inverts wherever a chamber opens |
| Widening or a fresh carriageway | Edge to edge at set intervals | Services layer for the highway designer |
| Bore beneath Ferozepur Road or a railway | Launch pit, reception pit and the line between | Depth-clearance profile for the drilling plan |
| Fibre or cable trench in a Focal Point estate | Trench alignment plus both verges | Paint marks on the ground, PDF and CAD files |
Table note: radar, locator and trial-pit methods are weighed against one another in underground utility detection methods explained.
When should the survey go into a Ludhiana road-cutting request?
Before you file; road owners clear a request faster when it already marks the cut and every line beneath it. Not every Ludhiana road belongs to the corporation; national highways, some state roads and railway land have their own owners and conditions. Fees and formats change, so check the present procedure with the road's owner.
The permission file gets one drawing: your proposed line beside every one of the utility lines identified and mapped. It gives the depth at each crossing and the clearance your pipe or cable will keep. How that drawing is built is set out in our note on utility mapping.
What does a Ludhiana survey cost?
Pricing is per metre of route scanned, with a minimum order per project and a discount on the whole order once a job gets long.
- Standard GPR scan: ₹24 per metre
- L-section (longitudinal profile with depths): ₹32 per metre
- Minimum order: ₹1,00,000 per project
- Whole-order discount: 25% above 100 km, 40% above 500 km, 50% above 1,000 km
- GST is extra on all of the above
Six kilometres of standard scan along a trunk-main route comes to ₹1,44,000. Profiling 2.5 km of nullah interceptor costs ₹80,000 on rate, which lifts to the ₹1,00,000 floor. A Mezux engineer lives in Ludhiana, so road work opens straight after you say yes, within one business day at most. Travel or set-up, if billable, appears as its own mobilisation line on our quotation.
How are metered house connections fixed on the map?
The canal-based 24x7 scheme adds a metered connection to almost every plot, so the corporation will want each meter and ferrule located. On water and sewer packages we set control by DGPS survey across Ludhiana packages. A total station at street frontages picks up meter boxes and valve chambers. Each radar find, from old mains to plastic service pipes among the underground utilities, sits on the same grid, and the corporation receives as-built points in CAD.
Whose crews scan Ludhiana corporation works, and who books them?
Our own engineers do every job with company-owned equipment; nothing is passed to a subcontractor. The firm has done this since 2003. All 58 radars and 18 drilling rigs belong to the company, and ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 audits cover its methods. Ludhiana Municipal Corporation has placed GPR survey work orders with us directly. The same crews serve the utilities and firms delivering its projects.
Callers include water and sewer contractors, design consultants, cable and fibre firms, and factory owners laying a new connection. Tell us the route length and the work planned through the quote form for Ludhiana; an engineer then writes the scope for the Ludhiana utility mapping.
Frequently asked questions
Do you take work outside corporation limits, such as near Sahnewal?
Yes. Any stretch where the pipeline runs past the boundary is priced as inside the city, with the same ₹1,00,000 minimum per project.
Can each line be tied to real-world coordinates?
Yes. Alignments are pinned with DGPS so the utility maps overlay your design drawings; see DGPS survey for Ludhiana sites.
Can GPR find the plastic pipes used for house connections?
Often, in dry sandy ground. In damp or rubble-filled ground plastic is harder to see, so doubtful crossings get a trial pit.
Do you work inside factory premises as well?
Yes. Many industrial jobs start inside a compound and continue onto the road, and we scan both in one visit.
Is night scanning possible on Ferozepur Road?
Yes, if planned in advance. Where daytime traffic would make the scan unsafe we shift to night hours, which can affect the quote.
How soon after scanning is the drawing ready?
Short routes are drawn within a few days, and long corridors are released in sections so the utility data reaches designers early.
