Quick AnswerA Jodhpur Municipal Corporation GPR survey charts the services in the thin fill over the city's rhyolite and sandstone, with depths, before the rock breaker arrives. In the damp walled-city lanes the ground type decides how ground penetrating radar (GPR) is set up on each street. Thinking of a drilled crossing instead of an open cut? Read learn about HDD route survey first.

What does a Jodhpur Municipal Corporation utility survey find?

It is the depth-marked sheet of sewers, PHED mains, JdVVNL cables and telecom ducts that a contractor needs before breaking open a city road or launching a drill. A ground penetrating radar survey here meets two opposite conditions. Stone lies close under the tarmac across much of Jodhpur, while the water table has climbed back beneath parts of the walled town.

The radar sees ducts and pipes whether plastic, clay or metal, while live metal cables are proven with an electromagnetic locator. PHED, the state Public Health Engineering Department, holds the water mains, Jodhpur Vidyut Vitran Nigam (JdVVNL) the power network, and separate firms the gas and fibre. The survey keeps the pipes and cables of each owner apart, so the utility data shows who to call.

Which corporation looks after Jodhpur now?

A single corporation, since November 2025, when Jodhpur North and Jodhpur South were folded back together as Jodhpur Municipal Corporation. The Divisional Commissioner took charge as administrator, and elections across 100 wards followed in September 2026. (Sources: NewsDrum (PTI), 11 November 2025; Lokmat Times, 24 October 2025; AIR News, 14 September 2026.) Drawings and road-cut files from 2020–2025 may carry either name, so collect both sets before a job begins.

How does rock change the survey and the dig?

Rock near the surface keeps services shallow and makes every unexpected crossing expensive. Jodhpur stands on and around hills of volcanic rhyolite and the local sandstone quarried for centuries. Trenches are often chiselled or broken out, and utilities end up packed into the thin fill above the rock, sometimes only a few hundred millimetres down.

Radar of this kind pictures what lies below by timing how long high frequency pulses take to bounce back; dry rhyolite barely weakens them, so reflected signals stay strong. The rock surface shows clearly in real time, which helps a contractor estimate breaking work. The difficulty is a cable lying in a groove cut into the rock, close to that strong echo. We slow the scan, use a higher-frequency antenna and confirm with the locator. A drill head that meets a cable inside rock cannot steer round it, so anyone choosing a bore should learn about HDD route survey first.

Why is the old city sometimes wet underneath?

In parts of the walled city, groundwater has risen since canal water arrived and the old wells and stepwells fell out of use. Some basements and low streets now stay damp. Moisture soaks up the radar pulse, so a damp lane can give a fraction of the reach of a dry colony road nearby.

Newer areas: rock close below Old walled city: damp ground Rhyolite / sandstone Services in thin fill Raised water table Deep sewer: radar may miss it
Illustration: over rock, services crowd into a thin layer of fill; in damp parts of the old city the radar signal fades before it reaches the deepest pipes.

A dry colony street may give clean images well below the sewer. A lane between the clock tower market and the fort hill returns little below the first metre. We plan both kinds of street into one programme with the right time for each. In the wet lanes we lift as many covers as the zone office allows, measure depths directly and use radar mainly for shallow cables, metallic pipes and house links. The drawing marks which depths were measured and which were estimated.

Which method suits which Jodhpur street?

There is no single best tool here; the ground decides.

What about long routes across the city?

When a pipeline, cable or road job stretches for kilometres, we scan a band either side of the line. That gives the designer room to shift the alignment without calling us back. The approach is described when you see utility corridor mapping; the layers we hand over are listed in details on utility mapping. For our Jodhpur crew and ground notes, see GPR survey in Jodhpur at a glance.

What does a Jodhpur survey cost?

The price is set by length and type of scan, with a minimum per project.

  • Standard GPR scan: ₹24 per metre
  • L-section with depth profile: ₹32 per metre
  • Minimum order: ₹1,00,000 per project
  • Whole-order discount: 25% above 100 km, 40% above 500 km, 50% above 1,000 km

A 5 km cable route scanned at the standard rate comes to ₹1,20,000. Scan only 1.8 km of walled-city lanes and the ₹1,00,000 project floor still applies. GST is extra. Because one of our surveyors is a Jodhpur resident, scanning can begin once you approve, inside one business day. Billable mobilisation or travel is itemised in the quotation, and chamber lifting or night work is agreed in writing beforehand.

Can rock depth and levels go on the same drawing?

Yes, and on rocky streets that is often what the contractor values most. The radar shows where fill gives way to rhyolite or sandstone, and we record that rock head along the trench line. A total station survey of road and rock levels gives the road surface and covers, while DGPS points for Jodhpur routes hold the job on one grid. The contractor can then estimate rock breaking chainage by chainage and decide where a bore beats a breaker.

What helps before we arrive?

A clear route file, permission to open chambers, and the hours we may work. Send the trench or bore as a KMZ, a PDF or a dropped pin, with any old North or South sheets and PHED or JdVVNL contacts. Tell us whether the drawing is for a bid, a road-cut file or the excavation crew on the construction site.

The radar on your street will be one of the 58 that Mezux Touch owns, run by its own engineers. The firm has surveyed utilities since 2003 and works to ISO 45001, 14001 and 9001. Jodhpur corporation work has reached us on the corporation's own work orders. It also comes through PHED and JdVVNL contractors, design consultants and other agencies with lines in its streets. Nothing is sub-let, and the data collected on site is drawn by the same team. For Jodhpur utility mapping, when the route is ready, send us your Jodhpur site details.

Frequently asked questions

Does Jodhpur's sandstone block the radar?

Dry sandstone and rhyolite pass radar well, so the rock surface and buried objects lying on it show clearly. Cracks and quarry fill can add some clutter.

Why are depths in the old city sometimes marked as measured?

Damp ground there weakens the radar, so we measure depths at manholes and valve chambers wherever we can. The drawing says which figures were measured and which were estimated.

Do I need separate surveys for the old North and South areas?

No. Since the merger it is one corporation, and one survey order can cover streets on both sides of the former boundary.

Can you give the drawing on survey coordinates?

Yes. We can fix control points with a DGPS survey rates and scope and deliver the utility layer on them.

When could your team be on a Jodhpur road?

Our Jodhpur-based surveyor reaches the road on confirmation day, or on the next business day at the latest. Where travel is chargeable, the quotation shows it.
