Quick AnswerWhether you trench beside a flood-hit drain or drill under a canal, a Vijayawada Municipal Corporation GPR survey shows what is already in the ground. Ground penetrating radar (GPR) passes and locator traces fix every service in plan and depth, and each finding is rated for certainty. Consultants who need formal quality levels can learn about SUE survey.

Where does a Vijayawada Municipal Corporation utility survey start?

It begins on a map, listing the obstacles your alignment meets: arterial roads, irrigation canals, big drains and the railway corridor. Those points carry most of the danger and get the densest scan grids, with utility locating on every live cable. Between them, a ground penetrating radar survey logs mains, sewers, drains, APCPDCL cables, fibre ducts and unknown lines, each with an indicative depth and owner where possible.

Vijayawada has been a municipality since 1888 and a corporation since 1981. Its 64 wards cover about 62 sq km, a compact area dense with traffic, trade and underground utilities. Plans for a greater corporation taking in neighbouring areas have been discussed for years, and would bring in roads with thinner records.

Why are canal crossings the critical points?

A pipe or duct that must get past a canal goes under it by horizontal directional drilling, and the bore must clear both banks and the canal bed. The Ryves, Eluru and Bandar canals all pass through the city. Their banks carry roads, mains, cables and fibre gathered over decades.

Illustration: a bore beneath one of Vijayawada's canals must miss the bank-side services at each end and the bed in between, so scanning runs the full drill path.

At a canal or drain crossing, launch and reception zones are gridded and both banks are scanned lengthwise. Any service near the drill path gets a depth from the GPR data. The bore designer receives a profile with clearances. The trenchless scope is set out when you read about HDD route survey; Mezux runs 18 HDD rigs itself, so the scanning crew knows what the drill head will meet.

What did the 2024 floods show about the city's drains?

Drains, culverts and the services beside them matter far more than most drawings admit. In late August and early September 2024 the Budameru overflowed after heavy rain, and large parts of the north and west stayed under water for days. Drain and culvert repairs since then mean fresh digging beside roads crowded with pipes and cables.

Drain-side jobs carry two hazards: services crossing the drain at culverts, and buried utilities laid in the drain verge. Both banks are therefore covered, every reachable manhole is opened, and each culvert crossing gets its own callout on the sheet.

How does Vijayawada's ground affect radar depth?

Rocky hillsides and moist delta soils behave so differently that one radar depth for the whole city would mislead. GPR pulses are radio waves, and they travel well or poorly depending on the electromagnetic properties of the soil. Around the hills below Indrakeeladri, thin soil over rock keeps services shallow and clear on screen. Towards the Krishna and the canals, clay-rich soil holds moisture, which absorbs the signal, above all after rain.

Antenna choice, from high frequency to low, and pass spacing are set stretch by stretch. Metallic pipes and cables are traced by locator, and deep doubtful crossings get agreed test pits. Ground conditions and team details are on our page on GPR survey in Vijayawada.

What will the drawing tell your designer?

Position, likely depth, probable owner and our certainty, for every line. Lines identified and mapped in a manhole or pit are labelled confirmed, and radar or locator finds are labelled detected. Utility maps arrive in AutoCAD and PDF with an Excel crossing schedule; the layers are explained in a closer look at utility mapping. Owners named most often are the corporation's water and drainage sections, APCPDCL for HT and LT cables, the water resources department for canal banks, telecom operators and the railways.

What does a Vijayawada survey cost?

Vijayawada jobs are charged by the metre above a project floor. Our Vijayawada surveyor is local, and the first scan follows on order day or, at the latest, the next business day.

  • Standard GPR scan: ₹24 per metre
  • L-section with depths: ₹32 per metre
  • Minimum order: ₹1,00,000 per project
  • Whole-order discount: 25% above 100 km, 40% above 500 km, 50% above 1,000 km
  • GST extra

A 4.5 km standard scan for a water main costs ₹1,08,000. Priced alone, a single canal crossing and its approaches seldom reach ₹1,00,000; clients either pay that floor or group crossings into one order. Mobilisation, if billable, is shown separately in our quotation.

What does a canal crossing need besides a radar scan?

A bore beneath the Ryves, Eluru or Bandar canal needs the bed level, both bank tops and the water level on the day. We fix both banks to one grid through DGPS control at Vijayawada canals, since sight lines across water and traffic are poor. A total station survey on each bank records slopes, walls and outfalls, and radar finds go onto that profile. The driller then sees the clearance under the bed and under each service.

Who scans for VMC, and who applies for the road cut?

Our own engineers do the survey; your team files the road-cutting request with the road owner, using our drawing. The corporation, the water resources department and the railways each hold different land and revise their own rules and fees, so ask every owner on the route. Mezux Touch, in the field since 2003, owns all 58 GPR systems it uses and holds ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001. VMC has ordered surveys from us directly, as have builders, consultants and service agencies on its construction sites, and no shift is sub-let. For VMC utility mapping, share the alignment, its length and purpose to price your Vijayawada job.

Frequently asked questions

Can levels for drain and culvert design be added?

Yes. A topographic survey for your site can run alongside the scan on one visit, which is handy for post-flood drain and culvert designs.

Can you survey a canal bank without entering the water?

Yes. We scan from bank roads and service tracks, and the bed itself is covered by the bore design and the client's own investigations.

Will radar work on flooded or freshly wet ground?

With reduced reach. We wait for the surface to drain where we can, and add trial pits where we cannot.

Do you cover areas outside the corporation boundary?

Yes, at the same rates and minimum order.

Can several crossings be combined in one order?

Yes. Putting several short canal or drain crossings on one order gets the most value out of the floor.

How do you mark lines near a busy road?

With paint or pegs, placed under traffic cover provided by the client or arranged with them.
