Bengaluru West City Corporation GPR Survey for Estates
Cable tracing, radar scans and utility drawings for industrial estates, old extensions and new layouts across Bengaluru West City Corporation.
Quick AnswerA Bengaluru West City Corporation GPR survey finds Peenya's HT feeders, Malleswaram's old masonry drains and the new layout pipes at Kengeri before the excavator or drill rig arrives. The west mixes heavy industrial power networks with some of the city's oldest residential streets. For how each detection method works, start with a plain-language explainer.
What does a Bengaluru West City Corporation utility survey include?
The cable locator leads, ground penetrating radar (GPR) follows for pipes and ducts, chambers are opened and pits dug where doubt remains. Every line is plotted with its route, rough depth and likely owner. Power cables get extra attention, because estates and dense housing put heavy electrical load underground.
West came into existence with the 2 September 2025 notification under the 2024 Greater Bengaluru Governance Act. It covers roughly 160 square kilometres and has 112 wards, far more than any other corporation. It runs through two zones, RR Nagar and Malleswaram. (Sources: The Week, 2 September 2025; Deccan Herald, 13 September 2025; The South First, 20 November 2025.)
Why is the west the most varied corporation to plan for?
It stretches from century-old residential extensions to large industrial estates and new layouts on the urban edge. Older wards include Malleshwaram, Rajajinagara, Mathikere, Srinagar, Hanumanthanagar and Yediyuru. Peenya, Laggere, Nagasandra and Chokkasandra form the industrial north-west, with Nagarbhavi, Herohalli, Ullal and Kengeri further out. Ten assembly areas feed into it (Source: Deccan Herald, 2 October 2025).
Between Rajajinagar and Ullal the ground below changes from brick drains to estate HT cabling to fresh layout mains, so each stretch is planned on its own terms.
What makes the industrial estates different?
They carry a dense web of high-voltage and private cables that rarely appears on public drawings. The Peenya industrial area and the estates around it have grown over decades, and each unit draws power from feeders that run along and across the estate roads. Many units also lay their own water, compressed-air and process lines between sheds.
A strike here can stop several factories at once. Estate work therefore starts with a passive locator sweep for energised cables, followed by induced signals on known lines. Radar then runs for pipes and non-metallic ducts. For the tracing steps in detail, read about underground cable detection.
What lies under the older extensions?
Long-serving water mains, masonry drains and sewers, with many later additions squeezed in beside them. Malleswaram and Basavanagudi were among the first planned extensions beyond the old town, over a century ago, and Rajajinagar and Vijayanagar followed. Their wide, tree-lined roads look simple, but decades of connections, cables and repairs have filled the verges with utility lines.
In these streets we scan in two directions, lift every chamber we can reach, and watch for tree roots that mimic small pipes. The core has much the same old pipes in even tighter streets; the contrast is drawn on our Bengaluru Central City Corporation utility survey page.
How do the valley and the metro lines affect work in the west?
The Vrishabhavathi valley drains much of the west, and two metro arms have moved services along the main roads. Big storm channels in the valley cross many routes, and their banks are softer and wetter than the red soil around them. The Purple Line runs along Mysuru Road to Kengeri and Challaghatta. The Green Line runs along Tumakuru Road through Peenya and Nagasandra to Madavara, and both brought diversions at piers and stations.
GPR is a geophysical method that maps the subsurface from reflected signals of radar waves, and its reach depends on the electromagnetic properties of the ground. Dry red soil and weathered rock on the higher ground give clear results. Near the valley and in fresh diversion trenches, the wetter soil absorbs more signal, so pits are added. Other soil types are compared in GPR survey in Bengaluru details.
What mistakes cost the most in the west?
Assuming a quiet residential street is empty below, and assuming an estate's records cover private lines. Both lead to strikes we see again and again. Others include scanning the trench line but not the pit positions, and booking the survey after the excavator is on site. In estates where units change hands and rewire often, a two-year-old drawing may miss a new feeder, so a quick locator re-sweep before each trench is worth its small cost. Our guide lists more common mistakes to avoid, with ways around each.
What will you meet across the corporation?
Estate, extension, corridor and fringe each hide something different.
| Part of the west | What is buried there | What the crew concentrates on |
|---|---|---|
| Peenya, Laggere, Nagasandra | Estate HT feeders, cables to individual units, process piping | Locator first, private services drawn in their own colour |
| Malleswaram, Rajajinagar, Basavanagudi | Long-serving mains, brick and stone drains, dense plot connections | Radar crossed both ways, every reachable cover lifted |
| Mysuru Road and Tumakuru Road | Lines shifted for the Purple and Green Lines, trunk mains, fibre | Strip scans, close spacing round each pier |
| Nagarbhavi, Herohalli, Ullal, Kengeri | Recent layout services with patchy records | A broader strip and extra pits |
Table note: if your corridor runs on into another corporation, read when you need a Greater Bengaluru Authority utility survey.
What survey support do Peenya and Kengeri jobs get?
In Peenya it is plot-by-plot coordinates for HT feeders; in Kengeri it is as-built records for new layout pipes. Peenya units want each feeder's position against their gate and compound wall, while Kengeri's layouts need pipes and chambers recorded as they are laid. Estate control comes from DGPS survey for West Bengaluru sites, and a total station for plot and chamber pick-up follows. Each feeder, valve and manhole gets coordinates and a level for the next team.
What is the price for the west, and whose crew turns up?
Standard GPR scanning is ₹24 per metre and an L-section ₹32 per metre, subject to a ₹1,00,000 minimum per Bengaluru project. Mobilisation or travel, where it applies, is a separate quotation line. Whole-order discounts are 25% above 100 km, 40% above 500 km and 50% above 1,000 km, with GST added. Scanning 10 km of Peenya estate roads at the standard rate totals ₹2,40,000 before tax. A staff member living in Bengaluru can begin west-side work as soon as the order is in, and no estate road waits beyond one business day.
Our own engineers have done the field work and drawings on company-owned equipment since 2003, with nothing sub-let. West corporation work orders have come to Mezux directly. Peenya factory owners, road contractors, utilities and consultants on construction projects hire us on their own account. Frequently asked questions
Will you follow cables into a factory compound in Peenya?
Yes, with the owner's permission. Live cables are traced with a locator, and private underground utilities are marked apart from BESCOM and corporation services.
Do you cover areas beyond Kengeri and Nagasandra?
Yes. Past the corporation boundary on that side, check survey coverage in Bengaluru details.
Should I fix survey control before the utility scan?
On large sites it helps. Before deciding, go through questions to ask before a DGPS survey.
Is a power shutdown needed for the scan?
No. Locators work best on live cables, and a ground penetrating radar survey never touches them.
Can you survey around trees in Malleswaram?
Yes. Hand units scan around them, and root zones are marked on the utility maps so trenches can avoid them.
How quickly can you mark lines for a contractor?
Marking is done in real time on the day of scanning. The finished drawing follows after drafting of the GPR data.
