Quick AnswerAn MDA GPR survey maps buried pipes and cables before a Meerut Development Authority scheme road, drain or building is designed or widened. We scan with ground penetrating radar (GPR), trace metallic lines and can add an L-section showing depth along the route. Water mains and sewers are the main concern on MDA sites; see underground pipeline detection details.

Why should an MDA project be surveyed early?

On a development authority project, the cheapest place to move a pipe is on the drawing. An MDA utility survey before design freeze shows which mains, sewers, cables and gas lines block a new road, drain or building, while a change costs only a revision.

Meerut's development authority draws its powers from the Uttar Pradesh Urban Planning and Development Act, 1973. It prepares the master plan, lays out schemes and builds roads and civic works, often on land already carrying village supply lines, drains, power feeders and fibre. Finding them only at excavation turns each into a delay.

How has the RRTS corridor changed survey work in Meerut?

The Namo Bharat RRTS has brought a new spine through the city, and nearby construction must respect both the transit structures and the services moved for them. Meerut stations include Meerut South, Partapur, Rithani, Shatabdi Nagar, Begumpul and Modipuram, and Meerut Metro shares the infrastructure.

Station-area development means new roads, drains and connections in recently dug ground, where diverted services may match no record. A survey near the corridor finds the shifted utilities and shows the transit cables and foundations, so nothing new is designed into them. Work inside the operator's protected zone needs its consent, arranged by the client.

The Delhi–Meerut Expressway now reaches the southern edge of the city, and the Ganga Expressway begins in Meerut district. Both have drawn new building and service work towards the city's fringes.

Which pipelines do MDA sites hide?

  • Ductile and cast iron mains: strong GPR reflections, easy to trace as metallic pipes.
  • RCC sewers and box drains: clear on GPR but deep, so we tie them to manholes and measure inverts.
  • PVC and HDPE pipes: weaker reflections; tighter line spacing and trial pits where design depends on them.
  • Polyethylene gas pipes: laid with tracer wire and tape; where the wire is broken, GPR works alone.

Depth along the route is often the design question, so MDA work suits an L-section showing each line's depth band by chainage.

Which method fits which site?

GPR, cable locators and trial pits each answer a different question, and most MDA jobs use all three. Through reflected radar waves, GPR, a geophysical technique, sees metallic and non-metallic buried objects; locators trace metal lines precisely; trial pits are certain at one point. We set out the trade-offs, with field examples, in our engineers' notes on detection methods.

The Ganga–Yamuna alluvium under Meerut gives GPR a fair range in dry months. After the monsoon, and in clay pockets, depth range drops and we plan more pits. City-level detail is in GPR survey in Meerut at a glance.

What should you have ready before calling us?

  • Scheme name, layout plan and the design drawing, if one exists.
  • KMZ or marked map of the area or route.
  • What will be built and the maximum excavation depth.
  • Whether you need a plan only, or a plan plus L-section.
  • Access arrangements, especially near the RRTS corridor or occupied colonies.
  • Your target date for the drawing.

How is the drawing used after delivery?

It becomes a working base for the designer, the contractor and the future maintainer. The designer overlays the proposed road, drain or building and resolves clashes. The contractor uses the paint marks and depth table to choose between machine and hand digging. The maintainer keeps the file as a record of the site at the start.

Each utility type has its own layer and colour, and uncertain lines are dashed. Every record notes how it was found, so a line seen only in the GPR data is never mistaken for a confirmed pipe.

If the design changes, only the new section is surveyed, billed at the same per-metre rate within the original order where possible.

Scheme pegs along the Namo Bharat line

Schemes beside the Namo Bharat RRTS line are laid out plot by plot from approved layouts, and roads, parks and services must fit between them. We bring DGPS control onto the scheme and use a total station to set out or check road and plot pegs. Where older pipes and cables cross the scheme, the radar results are drawn against those pegs, so the designer sees which plot frontage a main crosses. As-built checks on new roads use the same method, keeping the scheme file current. More: DGPS for development schemes and peg checks with a total station.

What does an MDA survey cost, and when is the L-section worth it?

A plan-only GPR survey is ₹24 per metre; adding the L-section depth profile makes it ₹32 per metre. Meerut is within Delhi NCR, so the minimum order is ₹50,000. Long programmes earn a discount on the whole order: 25% above 100 km, 40% above 500 km and 50% above 1,000 km. GST is extra.

Consider a 2 km scheme road where the designer needs pipeline depths. Plan only: 2,000 m × ₹24 = ₹48,000, so the ₹50,000 minimum applies. With the L-section: 2,000 m × ₹32 = ₹64,000. For ₹14,000 more than the minimum, the designer gets depth bands along the whole road instead of only at pits. The full rate card is on the GPR price list, or price your Meerut job with us.

On MDA schemes, each ground penetrating radar survey falls to Mezux Touch staff using kit the company owns, with no outside crew. MDA has engaged us directly, and its planners' consultants and building contractors commission design and construction surveys too. For MDA utility mapping, send the scheme layout.

Frequently asked questions

Does MDA require a utility survey for approval?

That depends on the project and the conditions in your sanction or work order. We do not speak for the authority. Our utility maps answer the usual engineering questions.

Can you give a sewer's invert level?

GPR reads the top of the pipe. Invert levels are measured at manholes by dipping, and we combine both on the L-section.

Do you also cover Nagar Nigam streets in Meerut?

Yes. Municipal roads are covered on the Mezux Meerut Nagar Nigam utility survey page.

Can you work beside the RRTS viaduct?

Yes, outside the operator's restricted zones, where underground utilities near the viaduct are mapped as normal. Inside those zones the operator must consent first, and the client obtains that before our field day.

Will GPR find plastic water pipes?

Larger plastic pipes show in dry soil; small ones can be faint. We confirm critical lines with trial pits.

What files do we receive?

DWG with one layer per utility, PDF sheets, KMZ, an Excel depth table and, where ordered, the L-section sheets.
