Quick AnswerBefore a trench or bore goes into an SAS Nagar corporation road, an MC Mohali GPR survey fixes where its water mains, sewers, storm drains and cables run. Ground penetrating radar (GPR) passes and locator tracing in Mohali's phases end in AutoCAD and GIS files; check CAD and GIS utility mapping at a glance for the file types.

Where does MC Mohali work, and what does a utility survey cover there?

The Municipal Corporation of SAS Nagar (Mohali) maintains the roads and civic services of Phases 1 to 11, the sectors handed over to it and the industrial areas. Before any digging there, an MC Mohali utility survey sets down each pipe, drain, cable and duct below.

The corporation works under the Punjab Municipal Corporation Act, 1976. GMADA plans and builds newer sectors before passing them over, so road ownership depends on location and handover. PSPCL, the state distributor, owns the power cables, and much of the town drinks from the Kajauli supply shared with Chandigarh.

Why are the old phases and the new sectors surveyed differently?

The phases carry decades of patched services and dense house connections; the newer sectors have wider roads, more orderly corridors and many recently laid ducts.

In Phases 1 to 11, mains and sewers have been extended and repaired many times, and connections reach every plot. Parallel old and new utility lines are common, and road raising has buried some chambers. Radar lines there run tight, every metallic run gets a locator pass, and trial pits go into the plan.

Outer sectors such as 76 to 80, built more recently as construction projects with cleaner layouts, still pose a problem: polyethylene and PVC pipes show faintly on GPR. The challenge shifts from clutter to weak signals.

What is under Mohali's industrial areas?

Heavy feeders, process and effluent pipes, and fibre between units sit on top of the civic network. Industrial Area Phases 7, 8, 8A, 8B and 9 filled plot by plot, so many lines outside the gates were laid by factories, not an authority. An HT cable strike can halt a whole row of units.

Inside a running unit we follow shifts and safety rules; outside, we map the full road width, as factory lines often cross to a substation.

How sure is each line? Quality levels for Mohali tenders

Each line carries a grade showing the evidence behind it, taken from subsurface utility engineering:

  • From records only: taken from existing drawings or the owner's sketches, not checked on site.
  • From surface features: inferred from visible chambers, valves, poles and markers.
  • Detected: found in the GPR data or by a locator, with position and depth band.
  • Exposed: uncovered in a pit, so depth and diameter are measured.

For corporation tenders, stating the level makes the drawing fair to all bidders and protects the designer if a line turns out to differ. Read the details of SUE survey work for the full method.

The levels drive decisions. A main shown only from records near a planned sewer trench calls for a pit before design issue; a cable detected along its length may need none. Pits go only where the design hinges on a line, keeping spend matched to risk.

What happens when a project crosses into Chandigarh?

The route is split at the boundary into two packages, as owners, permissions and restoration rules change there. Mohali shares long boundary roads with Chandigarh, and a fibre route or trunk sewer may cross several times. Beyond the line, the UT's engineers hold the main arterials, and more about Chandigarh Administration Engineering Dept sets out how those jobs run.

Ground does not change at the boundary: the same Shivalik outwash of gravel and cobbles, finer towards the south-west. Being geophysical, the radar responds to every contrast, and those cobbles return reflected signals that resemble small pipes. Our page on GPR survey in Chandigarh covers soils across the tricity. Pre-start checks for each side are in the utility survey guide for Chandigarh.

What should you send for a Mohali quote?

Location, length and purpose are enough to start. A KMZ or marked map, the phase or sector, the job type and depth, any corporation, PSPCL or telecom records, road photos and a GMADA layout all sharpen the price.

Where Mohali's phases meet Chandigarh

Mohali's phases butt onto Chandigarh's sectors, and fibre or supply routes often cross the boundary road between them. Drawings from the two sides use different bases. We fix DGPS control on both sides and pick up the boundary road, kerbs and chambers with a total station, so a traced line keeps its position across the join. In the industrial areas, plot gates and drain levels go onto the same frame. The GIS output then drops into either city's map without shifting. Read about DGPS across city boundaries and kerb and chamber pick-up.

How much does a Mohali survey cost?

Standard GPR work is ₹24 per metre and work with an L-section is ₹32 per metre. The minimum order for Mohali is ₹1,00,000. Whole-order discounts start at 25% above 100 km, rise to 40% above 500 km and reach 50% above 1,000 km. Tax comes on top. A local team member begins the day you confirm, the next working day at the latest; travel cost, if it applies, is itemised.

Take a 12 km fibre run threading through the phases: 12,000 m × ₹24 = ₹2,88,000 at the plain rate, before tax. A single 600 m connection route would be ₹14,400 by length, so the minimum applies; it is worth combining it with other Mohali work. Every rate is on the GPR survey price list; to bundle both towns, get a written quote for Chandigarh and Mohali in one request.

A Mezux Touch team runs every ground penetrating radar survey in the phases with GPR sets from our own fleet, and no outside crew is used. MC Mohali has placed orders with us itself, and fibre operators, sewer contractors and project consultants working in its phases engage us for their routes. For MC Mohali utility mapping, one request can cover both towns.

Frequently asked questions

Is my road with MC Mohali or with GMADA?

It depends on whether the sector has been handed over. We check site boards, layouts and your work order, and mark the owner on the drawing.

Can you map house connections in the old phases?

Metallic pipes and larger plastic connections show on GPR in most cases. Thin plastic service pipes may barely register, so a pit checks any likely crossing.

Do you cover Kharar, Zirakpur and the rest of the district?

Yes. Those towns have their own municipal bodies, and more on survey coverage in Chandigarh lists the areas we serve.

Can you deliver in GIS format?

Yes. Besides DWG and PDF, we export utility maps as shapefiles and KMZ with attributes for type, size and quality level.

Is it possible to survey within a running Mohali unit?

Yes; we fit around the shift pattern and follow the plant's own safety rules, using hand-held kit under a roof.

Does rain affect the survey?

Wet ground shortens GPR range. We avoid scanning straight after heavy rain and plan monsoon-season jobs with more trial pits.
