Quick AnswerA total station survey in Lucknow hops from one tripod position to the next, reading a bearing and a range each time. That lets it carry on through cramped bazaar lanes, beneath roofs and under canopy where satellite kit gives up. The same instrument pegs building grids to the millimetre. Plots up to 1 acre start at ₹10,000 plus GST, with mobilisation, where applicable, stated in the quote. Our Lucknow surveyor can begin on the day you confirm, or the next working day. Our general write-up is total station survey for Lucknow sites.

Which Lucknow plots call for an instrument instead of DGPS?

Any plot where walls, overhangs or foliage shut out the sky, and any build that wants marks placed to within millimetres. Because each set-up is measured from the previous one, the width of the lane makes no difference to it.

Satellite receivers struggle in exactly the places where Lucknow is most crowded. In the bazaars around Chowk, Aminabad and Nakhas, upper floors lean towards each other over lanes a few metres wide. The total station keeps working there because it measures angles and distances, using electronic distance measurement, instead of waiting for satellites. It is also the instrument of choice inside large sheds and under the old trees of established colonies. If you want the background first, see: total station.

How does the survey work its way through old-city lanes?

A pair of control points goes in on the closest open ground, fixed by the global positioning system. From there the traverse threads down the lanes and finishes on a mark whose position we already hold. Each new station is measured from the last one. Because the loop ends where it began, any build-up of small errors shows as a misclosure. It is spread evenly back round the loop before the detail is plotted.

Illustration: C1 and C2 are positioned by DGPS where the sky is clear. The total station then works station to station (T1–T6) along the lanes and closes back on C2, so any build-up of error shows and can be adjusted out.

From each station, the detail survey picks up building faces, steps, drains, poles and lane widths, mostly off a prism and, for upper-floor projections, measuring reflectorless to the wall itself.

How are the readings checked before the crew leaves?

Everything important is measured twice, in a different way each time. Each angle is observed with the telescope direct and then reversed, so the instrument's own small collimation faults cancel. Distances between stations are taken forward and back. A handful of points picked up from one station are shot again from the next and must agree within the job tolerance. On soft lane surfaces, where a tripod leg can settle in the afternoon heat, the surveyor re-checks the backsight before moving on. Anything that fails is measured again that day, not discovered later at the office.

Which Lucknow jobs use a total station?

Rebuilding in the old city, recording buildings beside new works, setting out new blocks and laying out factories.

  • Old shops and houses being rebuilt in Aminabad or Chowk, where every party wall and lane edge must be shown exactly.
  • Record surveys of buildings close to the planned underground stretch of the Metro's East–West corridor, so owners have measured levels and dimensions on file before work starts nearby.
  • Stake-out of apartment blocks in growing areas such as Gomti Nagar Extension, where column grids go straight from the architect's file onto the ground.
  • Factory and warehouse layouts in Chinhat and Amausi, including racking lines, floor levels and drain outlets.

If ownership lines are in doubt, our Private Land Surveyor in Lucknow service sets the measured edges against the khatauni and the layout plan.

Does a site near a protected monument need anything extra?

Often, yes: a precise distance from the protected limit. Lucknow has centrally protected monuments, the Residency among them. India's ancient monuments law bars new building within 100 m of such a structure and requires permission across a further 200 m band beyond it. Any application must state how far the plot lies from those lines, and a total station measures that offset outright instead of leaving it to estimate. Mezux Touch works as an independent survey contractor, and the measured sheet supports an application without replacing any decision by the Archaeological Survey of India or the Lucknow Development Authority.

How does setting out turn a drawing into pegs?

The design coordinates are loaded into the instrument, which is centred over a control mark. Each peg then goes in from a computed bearing and range, and taped diagonals check the result. Construction layouts for column centres, grid lines, boundary offsets and floor levels are all marked this way. We never stake an architect's CAD file before its reference frame is known; questions to ask before a DGPS survey in Lucknow explains why. Stake-out is billed by the crew-day, so grouping several visits saves money.

Price and lead time for a total station survey in Lucknow

From ₹10,000 for a plot up to 1 acre, ₹3,000 for each extra acre, and ₹8,000 per crew-day for layout and stake-out. Any travel or lodging cost, if applicable, goes into the written quote as one mobilisation figure, with GST on top. With a surveyor resident in the city, work in Aminabad, Chinhat or Amausi begins at once or inside a working day of your order. Frequently asked questions

Can the instrument measure a wall I cannot reach?

Yes. In reflectorless mode it measures straight to the surface, which is useful for upper floors and projections over a lane.

Do you also give levels for the site?

Yes. Each job includes spot levels; for contours across the whole plot, see topographic survey in Lucknow rates and scope.

How long does pegging out take?

A single building's column grid takes about one day. Larger sites are planned visit by visit with the contractor.

Are after-hours visits possible in crowded bazaars?

Yes, if agreed beforehand, though a dawn start in Aminabad and Chowk, ahead of the shutters going up, normally suffices.

Do you take work in Bihar too?

Yes. Patna and the rest of Bihar are covered in how our total station survey in Patna works.

Will you mark the pegs or only give a drawing?

Both, on request. Pegging out leaves nails, pegs or paint on the ground plus a written log of every point placed.
