Quick AnswerA total station survey in Agartala keeps sighting its prism long after GNSS signals drop out, round the old bazaar streets near Ujjayanta Palace or beneath jackfruit and bamboo. It works equally well across a terraced tilla. We run traverses between DGPS control pairs, pick frontage detail and set out buildings. A plot up to 1 acre starts from ₹10,000 plus GST, and the Agartala-based surveyor can start the same day or the next working day. Company-wide page: total station survey by Mezux Touch.

Is the optical instrument the right call for your Agartala site?

In the built-up centre, under tree cover and wherever positions or levels must be correct to millimetres. Narrow lanes, walled compounds and shady homestead gardens leave a GNSS rover blind. The total station keeps working there, reading to a prism or straight off the brickwork.

Central Agartala, around Ujjayanta Palace and the older market streets, is a mix of shops, houses and offices packed close along roads that have been widened piece by piece. Away from the centre, the problem changes from walls to trees: mango, jackfruit and bamboo shade most compounds. In both settings the rover falters, and the instrument carries the job. It measures angles and distances from each set-up, with electronic distance measurement giving the range to a few millimetres.

How do we carry coordinates into a lane?

We run a link traverse, leaving one known pair at the lane mouth, threading the lane, and closing onto another pair at the far end.

Illustration: control pairs A1–A2 and B1–B2 are fixed by satellite on open ground. The total station runs between them through the lane, and the difference on arrival at B1 shows whether the traverse is within tolerance.

Both end pairs are control points fixed by global positioning system receivers in open ground before the instrument moves in; our DGPS survey in Agartala team handles that stage. Ending on marks other than the starting ones exposes any slip in the angles or ranges as a gap at the finish. The run is adjusted and plotted only if that gap is small enough; otherwise the doubtful leg is observed again while the team is still in the lane.

What do we measure from the stations?

Everything a road, drain or building designer needs on the site plan, along the frontage and inside the plot.

  • Building lines, plinths, steps, boundary walls and gates.
  • Road edges, footpaths, drain walls and culverts, with spot levels on each.
  • Electric poles, transformers, trees and other obstructions.
  • Heights of nearby structures where clearances matter.

Smart City road and drain works have changed many frontages in recent years. Whether the PWD is widening a carriageway or a shopkeeper wonders how the new drain compares with his plinth, that detail survey answers it. For contours over open ground: when you need a topographic survey in Agartala.

Can you set out a building on tilla ground?

Yes. Working from the engineer's drawing, we peg grid lines, column points and walls, and write a depth against every footing. On a tilla slope the footings step down, so each one is pegged with its own excavation depth from a temporary benchmark on firm ground. Our crew returns to check column positions and plinth level before the slab, which is when a mistake is cheapest to fix. Stake-out of construction layouts is charged per crew-day.

How do older buildings get measured?

Hands-off: the instrument reads distances straight off plaster, cornices and window reveals, no prism needed. That suits the fragile old frontages around the palace precinct, and owners who prefer that nothing is fixed to their walls. Each point is read from at least two stations where possible. Before excavating beside old footings, run radar first: details of GPR survey in Agartala (radar work from ₹1,00,000).

How does a field day run?

A short walk-round, control first, then station-by-station detail, with checks before the tripods come down. You and our surveyor fix the edges of the job together and list anything easy to miss, a contested wall perhaps, or a drain that overflows each July. Satellite pairs are logged first thing as the traverse gets under way. Along the busier trunk roads we prefer early mornings, with your agreement, since passing traffic keeps breaking the line of sight. As a last step, several points are re-read from another set-up. Once those agree, the readings go to our CAD desk that night.

What does a total station survey in Agartala cost?

From ₹10,000 for a plot up to 1 acre, ₹3,000 per extra acre, and ₹8,000 per crew-day for layout and stake-out. GST is extra.

  • Detail survey up to 1 acre: from ₹10,000.
  • ₹3,000 per extra acre; a 2-acre compound is ₹13,000.
  • Layout or stake-out: ₹8,000 per crew-day.
  • Mobilisation or travel, if applicable: stated in the written quote.

Field charges are the same across the north-eastern capitals, and travel appears only where it applies. Mizoram's figures are under what a total station survey in Aizawl costs. Plans normally go out by email three working days after fieldwork closes. Frequently asked questions

Is satellite control needed too?

It is needed only where the drawing must line up with a government sheet or a neighbour's plan; a standalone plot is often fine on an assumed grid.

DGPS or total station — which suits my plot?

Open land suits DGPS; lanes and trees suit a total station. Fuller comparison: details on DGPS vs Total Station.

Will you compare the plot with its khatian too?

That is boundary work against the record; read what you receive from a land surveyor in Agartala.

Is a prism needed on every wall?

No. Reflectorless readings go straight to the wall surface.

How often do you check stake-out?

At footing stage and before the slab, or as often as the contractor's programme needs.

Can you survey road frontages for widening?

Yes. Building lines, plinths, drains and poles along the frontage are all picked.
