Quick AnswerThis GPR infra news 28 September 2026 issue starts in Kolkata, where the metro set Orange Line trials towards Sector V. The Centre launched National PNG Drive 3.0, and DMRC reported its Peeragarhi interchange 90% built. The CMRS cleared 17 stations on Pune Metro Line 3. Each summary below says why it matters for utility mapping. To browse every issue, read GPR & Infra News from Mezux Touch.

What made the GPR infra news in the week of 28 September 2026?

Four stories shaped GPR infra news for the week of 28 September 2026. Kolkata Metro fixed a trial date for its Orange Line push to Sector V, and the Centre launched a third national drive for piped gas connections. Delhi Metro gave an update on its Peeragarhi interchange, and safety approval came for 17 stations on Pune Metro Line 3. Piles, trenches and service pipes all feature this week, so the ground under city roads is the common theme.

Kolkata Metro: Orange Line trials towards Sector V

Rail Vikas Nigam Limited officials said trial runs on the Orange Line extension towards Sector V would begin on 10 October and last at least a month. The stretch adds Gour Kishore Ghosh, Nalban and Sector V stations on the New Garia–Airport corridor. A new footbridge will join the Green Line's Sector V station to the Orange Line's IT Centre station. A 366-metre gap at Chingrighata, which held the project up for six years, has now been closed. The report also mentions a 15-month wait for traffic clearance from Kolkata Police. Passenger service is targeted for Christmas.

Why it matters: the hardest metres of any city line tend to sit at a crowded crossing. Before piers go in at such points, crews need to know what cables, drains and water mains lie under the carriageway.

National PNG Drive 3.0: 50 lakh new gas connections targeted

Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri launched National PNG Drive 3.0 on 1 October, at the PNGRB's 20th Foundation Day event. The drive runs until 31 March 2027 and targets 50 lakh new domestic PNG connections and 40 lakh conversions to active users. The previous drive, from January to June, added 12.10 lakh connections.

Why it matters: every new connection means a service pipe laid along a residential lane, often shallow and close to water and telecom lines. More pipes in the ground mean more chances for the next excavator to hit one, so a pre-excavation utility scan before trenching is cheap insurance.

Delhi Metro: Peeragarhi interchange takes shape

A DMRC official said the new Peeragarhi interchange will link the Green Line with the Magenta Line's Krishna Park Extension–Deepali Chowk section of Phase 4. That section is expected to open by the end of 2026. Both stations are elevated and will be joined by a 160-metre foot overbridge inside the paid area. About 90% of the civil structure is complete, and Phase 4 is expected to add around 18 interchanges to the existing 31.

Why it matters for Delhi NCR teams: footbridge and station foundations go down in road verges that are often packed with services. Once a section opens, that ground becomes far harder to dig, so accurate records made now save trouble later.

Pune Metro Line 3: safety approval for 17 stations

The Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety approved about 17 stations on the Hinjewadi–Shivajinagar line, Pune Metro's 23.3 km elevated Corridor 3 with 23 stations in all. The line is being built on a design, build, finance, operate and transfer basis under a public-private partnership.

What links these stories, and where can you read more?

All four are about work that either goes into crowded ground or leaves new services behind in it. Strikes on gas and water lines during civil work keep making the news. For the pattern in one place, see a short guide on India Utility Damage Report 2026. The previous issue has the GPR & Infra Weekly explained for 21 September, and next week's stories are in our GPR & Infra Weekly guide for 5 October.

How should crews prepare for the PNG drive?

A national push for piped gas means thousands of short service trenches across city lanes in a few months. Followers of infrastructure news India-wide have seen this pattern before: each new connection crosses a footpath where water, power and telecom lines already sit. Ground penetrating radar shows plastic water pipes that a locator misses, so a quick scan lets the gas crew locate and map those underground utilities before the trench opens. Logging what the scan finds also builds utility records that the next round of infrastructure development can use. Delhi NCR sites near the Peeragarhi works face the same crowded verges of buried utilities.

What does a GPR survey near such works cost?

Our standard GPR survey is ₹24 per metre and an L-section survey is ₹32 per metre, with GST extra. The minimum order is ₹50,000 in Delhi NCR and ₹1,00,000 elsewhere in India. Whole orders above 100 km get 25% off, above 500 km 40%, and above 1,000 km 50%. If your site sits near a metro, gas or road job, you can request a callback for your project and our engineer will ring you back.
