Quick AnswerA topographic survey in Dehradun picks up spot levels, contour lines, every bank and terrace edge, walls, trees and the beds of seasonal streams on the tilted Doon ground. Designers then have firm numbers for steps, retaining walls and drains. Sites up to 1 acre start at ₹15,000 plus GST, with a mobilisation charge, if one applies, set out in the quote. The scope is set out under topographic survey for Dehradun sites.

On a Doon hillside, what must a topographic survey in Dehradun pick up?

The full shape of a slope: spot heights, contours, the crest and foot of each bank, terrace lips, walls, trees and channel beds. Designers use it to decide where terraces go, how high walls must be and where monsoon water will run.

On a flat city plot a few dozen levels may do. On a Doon valley hillside the shape changes every few metres, so the survey follows the breaks in slope instead of a neat grid. Missing one bank top can put a retaining wall, and the construction layouts that follow it, in the wrong place.

How does the Doon valley's ground behave?

It falls from the Mussoorie range in the north towards the Shivaliks in the south, over thick beds of gravel and boulders, cut across by seasonal streams. Those fan deposits drain well but dig badly, and they can hide large boulders a metre below a grassy surface. The Rispana and the Bindal lie close to empty most months, then race in July and August, eating into their banks and shifting course.

The valley is also a watershed: rain falling on its western side ends up in the Yamuna, on the eastern side in the Ganga. For a site owner the practical lesson is narrower. Know which way your plot drains, how far it is from the nearest channel, and how high the bank is. A topographic survey answers all three.

How do levels turn into terraces, cut and fill on a hillside?

The engineer chooses terrace levels from the survey so that soil cut from the high side of each step is reused as fill on the low side. The section below shows the idea on a plot falling about 7.5 m over 45 m.

Illustration: with the ground falling about 7.5 m across a 45 m plot, two terraces are set. Soil cut from the upper part of each is reused as fill below it, held by a retaining wall. Levels are an example only.

Our site plan gives the levels needed for that balance, plus cross-sections at any spacing you ask for. Earth volumes come straight from the digital terrain model, so the contractor's quantities can be checked against something independent.

Which Dehradun sites need this most?

Hillside homes, institutional campuses, industrial plots and anything near a stream.

  • Houses and small hotels on the climbing roads towards Mussoorie, where terraces and walls take most of the budget.
  • Offices and flats around the Sahastradhara Road IT Park, where the land climbs towards the hills.
  • Factory plots at Selaqui needing level floors and yard drainage.
  • Land beside seasonal streams, where bank heights and channel width set how close you can build.

Steeper hill towns demand an even denser pick-up; compare getting a topographic survey in Shimla done right. Hidden mains and cables are a separate risk once digging begins, dealt with in GPR survey in Dehradun details.

How is sloping, wooded land surveyed?

Control by satellite in the open, then detail by total station, with breaklines picked up deliberately. Satellite marks go in by the routine in when you need a DGPS survey in Dehradun. Steeper or tree-covered ground is left to the instrument alone, as what you receive from a total station survey in Dehradun explains. Contours are normally drawn at 0.5 m on gentle ground and 1 m on steep slopes. Steep ground also slows the crew. Every instrument set-up must sit firmly on loose gravel, and prisms are carried up and down banks instead of across a flat plot. A single hillside acre can need ten or more stations. Our price reflects this, so photographs of the plot help us quote accurately. On a large, mostly open estate, a drone survey can produce an orthophoto and surface model faster, checked against ground levels taken on foot.

Charges for a topographic survey in Dehradun

A site of up to 1 acre starts at ₹15,000. Sites of 1–10 acres are charged at ₹4,000 per acre, and anything larger at ₹2,500 per acre. A road or route strip costs ₹15,000 per km. Where a drone suits the ground, the orthomosaic-and-contours option runs from ₹40,000 per site up to 25 acres, with ₹1,500 per extra acre.

Mobilisation, if applicable, is shown in the quote, and GST is extra; the written quote fixes the final figure. Our Dehradun-based surveyor starts on the slope immediately or within one working day of your go-ahead. Sheets are ready roughly three working days after field work ends. Frequently asked questions

Do you assess whether my slope is stable?

No. Slope stability needs a geotechnical engineer. Our survey gives that engineer the exact geometry to work from.

Should I wait for the rains to end?

After, if you can wait. Banks and channels settle into their new shape, and levels taken then are what you will build against.

Can boundary lines be added to the drawing?

Yes, as measured on the ground. Comparing them with the khatauni is separate work, handled by the Mezux land surveyor in Dehradun.

In brief, what am I buying?

A height-and-features map of your land. Fuller detail sits in Our note on what is a topographical survey.

How long will the field work take?

A 1-acre hillside plot takes one to two days, depending on slope, trees and access.

Will the drawing show trees by girth?

If you ask, yes. Large trees often decide where a building can sit, so we record their position and size.
